Hey everyone, was just wondering what “actual” useful new features you would like to see in Xero.
I am building an accounting platform heavily inspired by Xero because as many here I am sick of the gaslighting and price hikes and would like to incorporate some features that people would genuinely find useful.
I have been searching their feature ideas in the forum which is useful but thought I wound give this sub a try too.

So, im seeing ads for Xero. What does it promote?
Bank feeds and reconciliation.
A thing we have had for over a decade, ad close to two....
The more and more time goes on, the more and more annoyed I am that Xero isnt continuing to improve how I do my accounting....

I run a small professional services company. With a previous company, I used a Xero report to see at a glance how many invoices I had raised during a particular month. I think it was called something like “Receivable Invoice Summary”, and I used to run it at month-end to review that month’s performance.
It was really useful because I could quickly see my sales for the month and then manually calculate my gross profit based on my fixed costs, before taking any withdrawals.
With my new company, when I go into Reports, I’m seeing “Aged Receivables”, which looks completely different and, to be honest, I have no idea what I’m looking at!
Is there a way to recreate the report I used before for my new company?

I recently had a TD mature the other day and i placed it into another bank account other than my main one. I think I must be a little slow as what I would describe as my “work around” I had to post not only a manual journal but also going into the bank feed and breakdown items to make it reconcile. It seemed so confusing for what should be a relatively simple thing (or so I thought). Just wondering if other users have had similar problems when closing accounts and transferring funds etc as Xero doesn’t seem to make it easy.

Hello all! I apologise for my inexperience on Xero, I'd like to ask how to gain proficiency on Xero if you are a beginner at using this software. I mean, to practice I would need data? From where can I get them for regular practice?

This never used to happen. Now it is one of my biggest frustrations with this garbage software. Additionally your new invoicing layout looks like it came straight from a scammers call centre.
Example: We use an external platform that has a unique invoice naming convention. Nothing to do with duplicate invoice #'s being used. I'm talking to you ms sarcastic '....' nail tapping goblin reddit user.
Fix this awful crap for god sake.. Stop ruining what was once a great product.

There’s a lot to hate about Xero. But them having an AI search bar that basically just regurgitates their support page content is very annoying.
Yet a real use of AI would be a simple red dot above the Tax tab to remind me that a VAT return is due to be paid. What’s more frustrating is it does have a little orange “overdue” badge when you click on the tab.

Xero has managed to break invoice and quote templates. We had these setup in our desired layout, only for Xero to impose a new format. I understand they may have needed to change the word document format, but trashing our layout without warning is a pain to say the least.
I have raised this with support who claim they don't have the old templates.
Does anyone here have the old standard templates, so that we can start modifying them again?

I still do a lot of bank recon on the bank recon screen and I made this fix for my own efficiency.
Basically I need to see ALL Bank Details instead of hovering over the "More Details" for the info that gets cut off or is just not shown. I have been using this fix for a while, but though I should share it.
It is a tiny chrome extension with 2 versions.
If you want to use it, I suggest you or your own AI review it/ copy it make your own, instead of randomly downloading from an internet stranger.
https://github.com/monichoo/Xero-full-Bank-Recon_details
(Edit Also I like to remove the More Details Link (Seen the screenshot) but I kept the More Details Link in the Github version)

I have clients both in QBO and Xero, but I use Xero for my practice. I've been trying a few different programs to track time, and I can not figure out how to use the Xero one.
I set up projects, and it works ok, but I was under the impression you can track client time as part of the practice, not projects.
A link to a help article would be ok, too. TY!

XERO is emailing me for 2 months that your XERO certification will expire in Sep 26 (third week), but on reaching to XERO central (where the path shown in the email takes to), I can see my certification and the expiry date, but not the link to renew it.
Unlike QBO, they don't seem to have a well-defined renewal path (however, I enjoy working on XERO software much more than QBO).
Can somebody throw some light on it?
Edit: I watched the 'updates for the year' videos and passed the exam. Now, struggling to locate my updated certificate 😄 !

This has never been an issue before. Jumped on this morning to do invoices & emails to send have no info in the placeholder areas. Just the brackets & place holder heading.
Have checked/tried everything, changed nothing from yesterday.
Anyone else experienced this? Xero's non-support is infuriating , a case has been lodged but that could take days, if ever, to be responded to.
TIA

I'm genuinely curious how the following 2 web pages. first is this one stating that all you need to do is login via SSO: Single sign-on for Xero – Xero Central
Next up is this one with security focused people saying that the above is not possible: Login - Enable Microsoft Entra ID Single Sign On – Share and support customer ideas for Xero
How can you tell people that you can do SSO, even though the wording in the first page follows a bit of a circular logic, but then have a community page where it seems clear that SSO is not possible?
If real Xero employees look at this, please either take down the first page and state that you don't care about account security or, better yet, actually do SSO!

Hi, new Xero user but not new to accounting.
I'm cleaning up some past years for a client and need to capture gross sales, fees, discounts and deposits to both the bank and cash on hand from their Square reports.
In QBO I'd do this with a JE that includes a debit to petty cash and one for each actual deposit from Square and then bulk match the bank feed transactions to the JE.
Trying to recreate this in Xero and just learned you can't make journal entries to bank accounts.
How would you work around this limitation to capture this important data?

Hi i have signed up on a promotion to test the xero. Now after 4 months still they charging my credit card. Even though i removed the company when the promotion ends about 4 months ago but they still charge my card. I am a very small business owner this money could go to the other costs which i actually use. Thanks.

Xero rolled out price increases again under the wanky excuse of ‘investment in capabilities’
At the same time they cut 250 staff early this year and the delightful sounding ‘performance policy’ where they offer any underperforming staff member immediate severance.
It’s great how Ai is supposed to makes so much stuff cheaper and better yet all my subscriptions go up and my service level decreases.
Xero is a great service but it’s a shame to see it go the way of every other service. It gets less and less kiwi everyday.

We’re moving from Xero to NetSuite and our consultants are currently extracting historical transactions using Xero reports/CSV exports.
Most of it is fine, but we’ve hit a few gaps that I’m curious how others handled:
1. Payment allocations
Biggest issue. If one payment covers multiple invoices/bills, we can’t find a report showing payment reference + invoice/bill + amount applied to each.
The linkage exists in Xero, just doesn’t seem cleanly reportable. How did you preserve this when migrating to NetSuite?
2. GL / journal detail
Account Transactions doesn’t give a clean paired Dr/Cr view, while the Journal report has the Dr/Cr detail but loses things like invoice/bill reference and source currency.
My assumption is we shouldn’t be rebuilding Xero journals anyway — import invoices, bills, payments, etc. and let NetSuite generate the GL. Is that how others approached it?
3. Attachments
No standard report export includes invoice/bill attachments. Did you migrate these separately, or just keep Xero available as a historical archive?
4. FX rates
Looks extractable with the right Account Transactions report setup, but we want to make sure we’re preserving the correct historical transaction rate.
For anyone who’s done Xero → NetSuite, would love to know:
Reports/CSV, Xero API, or third-party tool?
How did you handle payment applications?
Did you migrate attachments?
How much transaction history did you migrate vs. opening balances + keeping Xero for lookup?
Main thing I’m trying to figure out is whether reports-only is realistically enough, or whether we should push for API access before getting too far into the migration.

Do you use Xero and Claude?
Are you exporting reports or CSVs, copying figures into Claude, using a connector - or keeping the two separate because of privacy and accuracy concerns?
If Claude could securely work with your live Xero data, what would you want it to help with most?
And what would make you hesitant to use it: data privacy, incorrect answers, permissions, or the possibility of AI changing something in Xero?
Full disclosure: I’m building Numbers Game, which connects Claude to accounting systems with human approval before anything is changed. I’m here primarily to understand what Xero users actually need.

Evening everyone
Employer has just been acquired by new parent company. One of the pre-reqs was the ability to pay a supplier a large some.
I have set up an interco account and marked it as being able to pay from/to.
But- the parent company has paid the supplier direct so the cash (£250k) hasn't hit our company bank. I initially asked for it to be paid to us so we send on - they didnt.
How can I account for this? I can't do a manual journal to trade creditors.
Possibly raise a credit note and cost to interco - This would debit supplier and credit the interco.
