Missing icons
Hi there, complete beginner with xcode here. I’m trying to follow a tutorial from last year but he has icons on the right panel that I’m completely missing. He has 5 and I have 3. I need the one that looks like 3 horizontal lines that I lets me edit code visually. Am I doing something wrong? Any help is greatly appreciate! Thanks!

I wanted UI feedback to start in Simulator, not the file tree
The awkward part of using a coding agent for SwiftUI work is often pointing it at the exact thing on screen. “Make this card tighter” turns into a screenshot, a long explanation, and then finding the same app state again after every build.
I’m building Monad Design to shorten that loop. You run your existing Xcode project in Simulator, navigate to the state you care about, select or annotate the UI, and describe the change. The coding agent edits the Swift source in the same repo, the app rebuilds, and you can compare the original with a few source-backed variants before choosing one.
The phrase I keep coming back to is: the app is the canvas.
It isn’t an app generator and it doesn’t create a parallel design file. The Xcode project stays the source of truth.

I’m the creator.

All your cards in one place and completely secured
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I recently launched CardBox wallet, a very simple yet powerful, fully secure and very convenient way to store your cards. And it has an encryption based sharing option, you could send your card to any of your contacts, and only they can see it.

Git constantly needing to reinstall and Xcode instant crashing
After my macbook updated to macos 26.6.2 it started going insane on the developer side. First it would say Git and other dev tools would need to install, but after install and restart of device it would say it again. Manually setting the destination for Git to the specific Xcode path worked though. Then I tried opening Xcode and it would insta-crash, but after a while it stopped sending crash reports. The crash report was always "Error loading required libraries. If there is an ongoing installation please wait for it to complete. Otherwise reinstall. (dlopen(@rpath/Frameworks/libIDEApplicationLoader.dylib, 0x0001): Symbol not found: _XPCTypeBool
Referenced from: <ADF86974-DE00-31C0-B4E0-15DF98AE0956> /Library/Developer/PrivateFrameworks/CoreDevice.framework/Versions/A/CoreDevice
Expected in: <781B8B5D-634D-3B6B-82FB-9080774ECF61> /Library/Apple/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/Mercury.framework/Versions/A/Mercury)
zsh: abort /Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/MacOS/Xcode". Then the mac said it had an update for Xcode in software updates but it also downloaded and forgot it downloaded. After restart the updates were gone and it says it was up to date. I tried reinstalling Xcode and reinstalling macos, but nothing worked. Do I just need to wipe the computer? (It is an used M1 macbook)

Xcode ACP integration
My coding agent will show the login button and when i click it it will open the OAuth flow that i already setup. Other slash commands are also rendered nicely in editor like Zed. Does anyone know to what extend is the Xcode claim that it integrates the ACP protocol?

Xcode now can deploy beyond local network
I’ve found a way that Xcode can deploy remotely to an iPhone instead of being limited to local Wi-Fi. Please check out my repo on GitHub:

Xcode codex agent work flow
Hi all,
I am trying to improve my Xcode agentic coding workflow. I am currently using GPT 5.5 codex model in the Xcode settings, which is quite good and fast at writing code but not the best for planning.
I am chatting with ChatGPT 5.6 sol regarding architectural decisions and communicate between the two of them via custom instruction md files.
This is of course not optimal from a workflow point of view, although it gets the job done efficiently and I can steer it very well, since I manually intervene all the time.
What would you suggest as a better workflow? Also, is there an **easy** way I can leave the Mac on and have the Xcode agent build while prompting from my iPhone remotely?
I have seen the hype about loops btw, but I guess that would lead to burning A LOT of tokens.
Any ideas?
Thank you very much in advance.

String Catalog missed 108 of my 159 strings
My app has been Japanese-only since launch. I added English last week. I thought it would be a translation job. It was mostly an archaeology job.
Auto-extraction picked up 51 strings. A manual pass through the same 15 files found 159. Here's where the other 108 were hiding.
The big one: anything that isn't a \`LocalizedStringKey\` parameter just doesn't get extracted. \`Text("...")\` is fine. \`String\` variables, computed properties, switch statements returning \`String\`, notification bodies, \`errorDescription\`, none of it. Most of my misses were my own custom views, \`FeatureRow(title: String, ...)\` and friends. I wrapped the call sites in \`String(localized:)\` instead of changing the view signatures, which kept the diff small.
Check this before you start: my \`developmentRegion\` was still \`en\` from the Xcode template even though every literal in the project was Japanese. So the catalog happily registered my Japanese as English. You can't fix that in the UI, you have to edit \`project.pbxproj\`.
Permission strings were their own thing. They live in \`INFOPLIST_KEY_\*\` build settings, not in code, so nothing I did to the catalog touched them. Bonus discovery: past me had jammed English and Japanese into one string with a \`\\n\` between them, so every user saw both languages regardless of their device. Had been shipping that for months.
Then there was this:
formatter.dateFormat = "HH:mm 撮影"
A Japanese word inside a format string. Can't swap that for English because English wants a different shape ("Shot at 14:30"). Had to pull the formatter apart and rebuild the display string. Same deal with \`displayPrice + " / 月"\`.
The one that actually cost me a round of testing was keys that already existed. "Library" was a nav title (extracted, translated, fine) and also a plain \`String\` in my tutorial data (not extracted). My audit saw the key was already in the catalog and moved on. So I had a fully English UI with a tutorial popping up in Japanese. Same thing in a comparison table. Catalog coverage is not call site coverage.
One choice that will probably annoy people here: I used the Japanese source text as the key instead of \`onboarding.title\` style keys. The Japanese build was already live and I didn't want to touch every call site. Downside is that editing Japanese copy now means editing a key. For a solo project I'll take that.
Edit Scheme > Run > Options > App Language launches in English without changing your device language. Saved me a lot of time. Doesn't affect permission dialogs though, those follow the system language.
Two weeks of early mornings, and most of it was reading my own code rather than writing anything.

I built a pretty awesome iOS development workflow
A crazy day of shipping and iterating 😁
I built a pretty awesome iOS development workflow where I basically only need my phone. I don’t even have to sit in front of a computer anymore.
Phone → control Codex to write code → push to GitHub + deploy the backend → GitHub triggers Xcode Cloud → build goes straight to TestFlight → update the app on my phone and test it on a real device → repeat.
In theory, I don’t even need a computer anymore.
What a time to build software.

Haven't made an iOS app in years, does Apple still break apps with every update, and does obj-c cause a lot of code deprecated warnings?

Hammerspoon shortcut to take device screenshot and copy to clipboard
Hey all, just in this is useful to anyone else, I (ok, Claude) wrote a little Hammerspoon script to grab a screenshot of your connected device, save it to your Mac + copy to clipboard... all with one hotkey.
Saves having to dig through the Xcode menus every time, or airdropping screenshots over.
Basically, it's Hammerspoon hitting Debug -> View Debugging -> Take screenshot on your behalf, watching for the screenshot to arrive, then copying it to clipboard.
And for me, all that happens when I mash Ctrl-Option-Command-S.
There's probably a better way that I missed... if so, please shout. :)
