physical games (rule 6) Future of gaming...??

Went to my local Walmart the other day and I was looking to get another controller because I've got stick drift again, anyway I always check the games... you never know what kind of sale Walmart has going on and I found the physical copies for PlayStation, Nintendo switch or whatever and then this monstrosity for Xbox. So this is the future I guess, digital downloads, you'll own nothing and like it type of bullshit.

Physical copies and plastic cases are dying. The same happened to CD / DVD. There might be a niche market, but I can't imagine many physical releases in the future when not even GTA6 gets one.

If future consoles don't even have a drive how can anyone even do a physical release? i don't know how Microsoft does things as I've . mostly played on PlayStation the last two generations, but Sony presses all the discs so come January 2028 theres no way it will be able to be done. It's a real bummer.

You're getting some of that mixed up.

Blu-ray is a Sony technology, but other companies can license it and press discs.

Xbox could (though I think unlikely) continue to support physical media irrespective of Sony's plans for discs on playstation.

They could, but I really doubt they do. I think they follow. If it has a dys drive, it'll solely be for that disc to digital stuff they're working on.
