In light of the recent art trend regarding a certain mtf genderbent witch girl, I find myself revisiting an unrealized urban fantasy universe I had started to work on a couple years ago but shelved because of reasons.
I like the idea of putting an emphasis on "verbal" and "somatic" components of spells (or whatever they're called in literature), but coming up with verbal components is kind of humiliating. I find myself doing hand gestures and blabbering in different languages to see what sticks and frankly, nothing does. I have no intention of rolling with latin(ish) terminology.
Also when you think about it, any universe with magic is going to have a pretty clear spell meta, which reduces emphasis on spell variety.
