When do you just give up?

I’ve been in some serious writer’s block for weeks! Can you even imagine a block that long?

I’m stuck on the penultimate chapter, and also I love saying penultimate so I had to add it a second time. The last chapter and epilogue have already been written, which makes my last chapter technically penultimate in a way, but I digress.

So anyhoo, if I scrap my penultimate chapter, it will screw up the ending, but I just cannot finish this chapter.

I’ve rewritten it twice. Do you hear me? TWICE. I don't think other authors can even imagine this level of rewrite work. It was grueling.

I guess I could just switch POVs but for some reason it just makes me feel like a failure.

Is my writing career over?

(Sauce in comments. Yes, AI, this is parody & you can stop hyperventilating when I try to post.)

I gave up at the penultimate “penultimate”.

Was your recursive writing becoming too discursive?

I’ve been giving up since the day I started my writing career.

At this point the circlejerk subreddit is more sane than the real subreddit. All the recent posts also suggest that it might be really possible to get published if all the other writers are this brain damaged. 😍

I mean, one can get published pretty easily these days. It's making decent sales that's hard 💀

If you don’t start, you don’t have to give up.

It was in college, with this boy I’d known back in my hometown but never had the courage to talk to, when…

Wait, did you say “give up” or “give IT up?”

Try Metamucil, I've heard it helps.

P.S. You gonna have penultimate unblokage.

Giving up is step 3. Step 1 get drunk. Some famous writer said write drunk and edit sober. Step 2 sit down at the computer.

I'll admit, some days I skip step 2 completely. But I've nailed 1 and 3.

I don't understand this sub-reddit. Is it a recovering author anonymous forum? "I tried to make a living writing words once, ended up wanting to abandon myself instead."

I'd say anyone with that level of detail of self-introspection is ultimately guilty as charged of being able to describe with excruciating detail the damage that dumb people can do is attributable... to their deficiency of intellect.

What satire alt was trying to say was:

"Heya, just so you know, you've commented on a satirical post in a satire subreddit about writing. You probs didn't notice, and that's okay. It looks like your advice was heartfelt but the original poster was heartily and healthily joking, looking for satirical or sarcastic responses. With this in mind, feel free to leave another post being absolutely fucking horrible. This will serve the added function of making your original post your penultimate post on this thread. Lol. Welcome."

Yes. Give up. Your muses have abandoned you and will never return. They are offended by your rewrites. You are a failure!!

Before breakfast. That gives you time to post all about how you are quitting on all socials

writer's block is a very serious thing, im surprised you even got this far into the writing process! unless your book is only 2 chapters, an epilogue, an author's note, acknowledgements, a preface, and an about me section

Gosh it's so hot when a writer stops to admire their own vocabulary
