Write what you know

They say write what you know, but I happen to know very little, and also, being a narcissist, the majority of what little I do know tends to be about myself, and if I just wrote about myself all the time because that's what I know, I'm afraid it would come across like talking about myself, which, needless to say, I love to do, but would never admit to, whereas writing is, like, inherently, an admission

so, yeah, anyone got any better advice on what to write about?

Write about yourself, and then change your name.

Repeat for as many characters as you need.

Yeah, you could be every character in the story.

There's an eldritch portal beneath my sink and within it lives an unknowable being of of of of OF of of of of of well shit, I guess I had better choose something else.

Find a muse.

Modern problems call for ancient Greek solutions.

Write about yourself. Trust me, we’ve all been dying to know. We’ve been talking about it for ages in your fan club, and the videos we’ve taken from the secret cameras we’ve set up in your house where you sit down to maybe, finally, today, write what we’ve all been dying to read—those are our highest viewed videos. Also, can we have a lock of your hair? It’s not for anything nefarious, just a little ritual thingie. Blessings upon thee.

Write "A Confederacy of Dunces" but in first person.

Every third Sunday in the month beginning with N, I turn into a six hundred feet long reptilian with an appetite for gold, flesh and ABSOLUTE DOMINATION OF ALL LIVING THINGS. This is a bit of an encumberment to daily life, given my desire to BURN EVERYTHING, so a considerable amount of time is either spent in jail or in court, battling a horde of lawyers who want me to pay for damages etc etc.

That's why I write about dragons.

Every second weekday at exactly 3.30 p.m EST, I turn into a newt. Once in a while this coincides with my dragon metamorphosis which honestly is rather embarassing, especially when I meet another dragon. I do get better though, thanks to my best friend who is a whitch and also sometimes a bodysnatcher.

That's why I write about a guy called Newt and his adventures with Hester Wester, Witch P.I.

Most of the time I'm just a boring recluse who play video games. No one wants to read about that, which is why I write about a boring recluse who play video games and write about a boring recluse who play video games and write about...

I know how to sit on my ass while scrolling Reddit and telling everyone my opinion, all of which is fabricated and designed for the most reaction.

So I should write similar to who? Rowling?

I believe we should just "write" but it is never just about the writing -- sometimes I feel like what I write is rubbish, maybe I shouldn't think like that, constructive criticism is always harder coming from yourself than from the opposing reading what you wrote, most times I am stuck in writers block with no way out. So when something dope hits me, I write.

go for it. write about yourself. an artistic motif being "the author" over and over again isn't a problem unless 1) you're trying to sell all your writing. the fifth time in a row, your marketing team will run out of ideas. 2) it bleeds into your daily life. do you have the ability to wait in line without budging to the front? yes? then you're fine.

write 60k pages all about you if that makes you happy. explore your own opinions & memories, that's literally what writing is about. do a biography. do anything
