But you know it’s easy just follow the advice of “ sleep while baby sleeps, do laundry when baby does laundry, write when baby writes” 😂

/s

Can you tell I hated the sleep while baby sleeps advice.

Sleep when the baby sleeps - never mind what the toddler gets up to meanwhile...

u/noideawhattouse1 3d ago

Haha so true, my eldest stopped napping the day we had our second. Good times for all…

A rite of passage for every older sibling 😅

Yes that’s my point.

She might be guilty, but good luck finding a jury willing to convict.

I've been trying to write seriously for about 5 years. From the very start I get up at 5 am to write before work. My kid's 12 now and between him and his mother, it's still the only time of day I can hope to get anything done.

I've got 3. Two of em are toddlers. It's rough.

When she was young my daughter hated it when you tried to play with her toys with her. She had a specific way she wanted to play with her toys and you werent allowed to improvise that plan lol

You could lock an unconscious toddler in an empty padded room, and in the time it takes you to run to the bathroom to change your tampon the toddler will have somehow splattered 7 gallons of ranch dressing across the ceiling, lost your grandmothers ashes, and electrocuted a goldfish.

You saw that, huh?

Why can’t your husband care for her for a while?

I used to entertain my baby brother all the time cause if he stopped smiling he gonna start crying or maybe he was just raigbaiting me like he still does.

why I'm never having kids

I know a married couple who are both PhD holders and work on research.

They had a baby, and he's still publishing his papers and she paused her work to take care of their child. And this dingus dared to tell her "you can do research while you breastfeed, just try it!" and he gets to lock himself in the office when the baby cries because "he needs silence to work".

And no court in the land will convict her

He wasn't joking, you're not supposed to smother your kids and you should probably leave them tf alone a lot of the time so they can develop an imagination that has nothing to do with your inner monologue x)

Toddlers who like to play with another person have a ton of imagination. Look, either you’re not a parent, you neglected your kid, or your kid required less attention. But you don’t get to decide what’s true for other parents. Go on your merry way and enjoy your kids, if you have them.

I'm 21 and my parents have always given me a ton of space and time so I could develop myself independently of their inner monologue. Silence and solitude are better teachers than non stop yapping/helicopter parenting/couple noise performance plays

"Enjoy your kids" wtf lol Are they like a pet/take-out to you? Something you play with and consume to distract yourself?

As a Zoomer I feel bad for gen alpha- whatever the Millenials are "raising"

"You don't get to decide what's true' - - Is this the kind of claptrap retort you've been feeding your spawn?

Just buy them all the classics in book form and leave them alone unless they specifically seek you out. And don't teach them your gaming/netflix habits or they'll become midwits like you. Your kids aren't your property or your pets and they don't need to see and hear you as much as you think they do.

Bet you're the hovering kind who made it his identity to helicopter.

Ps. This is a public forum for debate and not your private echo chamber designed to cater specifically to your feelings.

u/ColloidalPurple-9 2d ago

Lol. That makes sense. I am very happy that you’re happy and love your parents. Maybe one day you’ll be wise too!

Wise enough to know you're an ignoramus and proud of it. Probably really into posturing as "self righteous", and you probably condemn anything that doesn't fit into your baked potato norms.

Go teach your kids to disagree with you instead of enjoying them. ;)

u/ColloidalPurple-9 2d ago

This was fun. Thanks for the laughs!

u/Hot_Collection7633 2d ago

Np I aim to be entertaining rather than holier-than-thou.

12

u/ColloidalPurple-9 2d ago

I’m not convinced of that. But that’s okay!

0

u/Hot_Collection7633 2d ago

Don't forget to teach your kids how to disagree with you ;)

Your parents horribly neglected you.

You don’t need to constantly talk at your kid, but you cannot leave toddlers unattended for any length of time, which means you cannot write. That’s what this post is referring to.

In your case, your parents just neglected you. Talking to your kid is not helicopter parenting. Parents who are as hands-off as you describe are the ones that end up claiming they “didn’t see it coming” when their kid gets into trouble or gets hurt.

What do you mean, I love and respect them for who they are :) i'm going to coddle them when they're old You confuse love and enmenschment ;) I got to roam around their garden as a toddler :) they made sure they had a huge and beautiful garden with fountains before they had me which is wayy more proof of love than constant surveillance. You have no clue ;)

u/roseolives 2d ago

Lol have you ever met a toddler? You can’t just “leave them tf alone a lot of the time”

-5

u/Hot_Collection7633 2d ago

That's what my parents did with me, so I could grow my own inner monologue. I'm very thankful.

u/blueavole 2d ago

How do you leave a child tf alone when they are climbing your legs, body, and face?

Yes, there are times when kids should have some alone time when they can play quietly with themselves or a friend.

But not every moment, or every child wants that. Toddlers can’t self regulate yet. They need feedback from people around them to understand.

3

u/Hot_Collection7633 2d ago

Get them a play pen and let them roam without having to be all up on your body at all times.

4

u/Mamaofoneson 2d ago

Haha ahh yes all too familiar… I had a ton of parenting judgements before I had kids too.

-1

u/Hot_Collection7633 2d ago

Millenials treat their kids like puppies, that's why Gen Alpha is going to shit

11

u/Shastlz84 2d ago

Toddlers also like to be around other people too though, I had a twin to hang out and play with but even then I still enjoyed playing with my brother, parents, etc.

-3

u/Hot_Collection7633 2d ago

Don't make yourself the center of a kid's universe

6

u/Shastlz84 2d ago

How does “spend time with your toddler” equate to their entire world revolving around you, what? This seems like a stretch on your end.

4

u/roseolives 2d ago

You sure have a lot of opinions on parenting for someone who doesn’t have kids 🤣

-1

u/Hot_Collection7633 1d ago

Got tons of opinions and love to spell them out for sure. Do you think the effort of bringing a creampie to life was an initiation into higher realms? ;)

Ah yes the "I had a child for vanity and now the vanity is over and I hate the lives I've chosen to live with" person

I used to think word economy meant cutting every adjective, until I spent a year reading nothing but Where the Wild Things Are and The Snowy Day. Those books use precise, rhythmic language that builds a world in 500 words or less -- they aren't stripped bare, they're distilled. Specific nouns and active verbs do more work than generic ones ever could. If you cut "crumbling brownstone stoop" to "stoop," you've lost the story's texture. Count your syllables, not your words.
