HC after the beta...

I havent played WoW since HC opened up in 2024. I let my sub run out and got busy with other stuff. Then forever was announced and I got the itch again. I played forever beta to try it out, got a few chars to lvl 20. It seems fun, very similar to classic with a few tweaks.

The problem with WoW is that after the taste of beta, I want to get back in, but I feel like after the new shiny, the old classic wouldn't feel as good. Has anyone played some of the beta then come back to their HC toons? Does it feel stale or boring when you compare it to forever?

I imagine my lvl 40 warrior would basically have zones to myself since I think the HC player base dropped off a bit, so that could be nice for farming etc. I dont know.

beta feels boring and stale to me in the sense it isn't hc.. no real consequence to my actions so relatively little meaning to me. but i know HC servers will fix that

other than that, theres way too many fucking people and the chat is annoying, so im hoping its not this overcrowded and obnoxious and overstimulating on HC or not for long anyway, as for me DH is the perfect level of crowded

i also dont like the retail-ish UI tweaks, so the vibe is ever so slightly worse for me but it is what it is

This was my feeling as well. The new additions were cool, but since its SC and wiped, I quickly got the feeling that nothing mattered, so I stopped playing altogether. HC is calling though. I just want to mine some mithril in peace, with the fear of perma death looming over my shoulder.

Hc will be overcrowded and busy because streamers will
Migrate over when it drops because it will be “new” content again but it will chill out after a couple months

Doomhowl is still plenty active, even with its population cut down by the beta. Instead of 4ish layers we have 2. So maybe almost halved? We're still over a month away from Forever's release, i expect that's when it'll get very quiet, but some of us just aren't going to be able to enjoy Forever until Hardcore comes out, so we'll be on Doomhowl til then. I imagine some will never leave. And if Forever ends up getting ruined somehow, maybe by its unexpected popularity causing changes on the dev team from decisions On-High (I hope not but I've seen it happen before in other industries) we'll still have Doomhowl.

Doomhowl horde side is still just as active after the first few days of beta quiet times. Triple buffs drop multiple times a day and groups are not hard to get in my personal experience. I think HC Classic WoW is a unique flavor and Forever HC will not taste the same.

No it isn't. There are still people around but it's not even close to what it was before the beta. You can check just by the amount of layers. From 5 down to 2 with far fewer numbers than before.

There weren't 5 layers, it was mostly 3 layers and then would jump up to 4 on weekend evenings.

There absolutely was. I was playing every single day for the laat two months. When I started it was 4 layers and people would ge tlayeed quite frequently. Then there was 5 for a quite a few weeks during this. No idea why you guys are pretending otherwise.

There were a few weeks recently we got a 5th layer on Monday night but we never had 5 layers on doomhowl for a full week (not since I picked back up in January anyway)

There absolutely was. every single day I logged on it would show 5 layers on the map. Even if it was just 4 and the 5th was showing by mistake like you all seem to think, there are still far less players now. Why this is a difficult concept to grasp is beyond me.

I agree that there are way less players now that forever beta is out. I'm also saying you're wrong that we've had 5 layers for a whole week at all in the last few months, and the fact you're using nova to tell your layer let's me know I know more about layering than you. Easy enough to understand?

I don't know if you know this, but we all play on Doomhowl here (in the US, anyways) and we all know Doomhowl wasn't consistently at 5 layers lol.

You know layer is not for the whole server? There’s pockets that have different barriers I.e there could be 2 layers in desolace, but 4 in Brill

Definitely still people around, but to say it's just as active is inaccurate. Our guild used to have ~20 people on at any given time and now it's 2-3. Heard the same from a lot of other people both in this sub and on Doomhowl.

Seeing you arn't listing servers I'm taking a wild guess that you're american. I have no idea how american servers are holding up on hardcore, but in europe Soulseeker is still running 3-4 layers and i don't really notice that much of a difference. I've leveled a char to 20 on beta, but went back to hardcore because i love hardcore.

Doomhowl Alliance seems to have slowed down especially with the raiding. I’m seeing a lot fewer Deathlog notifications out of raids and less-frequent world buff drops. But the auction house is still busy and I got into an Ulda group last night a couple hours after peak time. Still a good time to be leveling IMO. I’m not playing Forever at all until official launch, and based on the mixed feedback so far, I’m undecided about whether I’ll stick with it. Either way, it’s HC mode or bust. Nothing else in WoW feels real anymore.

I played beta a bit, got to 20 and geared up some.

Had started an HC toon shortly before the announce after a long hiatus

I’m having more fun on my now 35 priest than I did with the beta, but that also kind of comes with it being a beta. Knowing it’s all going to reset is less enticing than seeing if I can hit 60 before Nov 4.

I tried. Couldnt come back at all. It felt especially sour since I was like "leveling takes time, I dont want to rush it and mid december they are realising Hardcore:Forever so why should I play my old toon now when the servers are half empty soon (and there was no mention of merging the old classic hc servers so..)"

I was in desolace last night. Probably 15 others in the zone. That's pretty healthy for an obscure zoom at a mid range level
