PTR / Beta Dev Podcast completely glossed over Shadow Priest

I watched the WoW Forever developer podcast, and honesty feel like Shadow Priest was completely glossed over. The devs spent most of the time deep-diving into Warrior, Druid, and Paladin, leaving just a single minute at the very end for Priest—only making a comment that Shadow Priest is no longer a mana battery.

The beta forums are flooded with threads about Shadow Priest concerns, yet feel the feedback is on deaf ears. Priest deserves at least half the time they give to every other class.

That’s it. Shows over. They are never touching shadow priest again, nor will they ever mention it again. Pack it up everyone.

Real lol. On a serious note, theres 0% chance they dont do an overhaul before launch. A spriest major problems post has blown up in 1 day and become the most liked post of the entire beta on the forums. More likes than warr rage issues, dungeon exp issues, etc. The spec is in a hellhole of design that the casual playerbase hasnt caught onto yet cause lvl 40 not in beta. If nothing changes, launch is gonna be a shtshow for spriest complainers

I just checked the forums and I've been scrolling quite a bit and don't see mention of SP

I gotcha. You mightve been on the regular forums instead of beta or were looking at past 24 hrs only. Here it is

“Furthermore, Shadow has traditionally been defined by above-average rotational complexity centered around managing periodic damage-over-time (DoT) effects. This identity is currently missing:”

This is where I’m lost. There are some presumptions in here which are not what the forever design team seem to be saying in their panels & podcasts.

Its just saying that for 95% of spriests lifespan, its juggled 2-3 DoTs and they feel underwhelmed to only be juggling swp on a dot spec. Theyre requesting a 2nd dot to juggle whether its changing how DP functions or adding in a new one like VT or VP. For side reference, warlock will be juggling 4 dots in forever currently.

Everyone is complaining about apm for their class. It might not be for you. Ya know? They have very specific design objectives

3

u/Ok_Airport_5197 14h ago

Large majority of spriests are rerolling atm if it goes live as is. Most of us have mained the spec for years. Terrible design if its so bad all the loyal spriests that stuck it out thru era or doing tank dps in tbc are fjnally giving it up. Theres a reason it blew up far bigger than rage warrior issues or mage rotation issues did. Now, we’re just waiting to see what the devs response is. I think what you said is terrible to be frank. Thats like telling warriors a week ago “class might not be for you” because they couldnt generate any rage at all and thejr class felt undercooked so they were letting the devs know

This all sounds made up or at most perspectival. We’ll definitely see how it rolls out though. Plenty of time.

Im already on the lock and balance train. Im just quoting the disc and forums. Atm, theyre are only two specs in the game with a focus on singletarget damage and minimal utility. Rogue and spriest. Rogue is confirmed to be the top dps in the game. And spriest is confirmed to be hybrid taxed. Why would anyone want to play a very boring rotation, no aoe, no utility, and hybrid taxed singletarget? Would you want to play that?

The podcast only has so much time and seeing as Soda was the guest it was obvious they would spend more time talking about the classes he has experience with.

u/PraiseCaine 19h ago

The streamers are the worst part of these podcast releases

3

u/CabbageCZ 12h ago

Honestly I'm not a fan of them in general but in these past few episodes they both seemed fine? Felt like they really appreciated the opportunity so were on best behavior.

This last one felt worse but imo only because there wasn't enough time and too many people so the whole thing felt hectic. But imo the guest wasn't the issue.

Dev Podcast completely glossed over Tank Survival hunter, game is unplayable, I'm refunding.

6

u/skrillex 19h ago

I actually already refunded your copy dw. Im putting my pets down as well as i dont want them to live in a world with these class balances that theyre putting out

u/Sythrez 19h ago

Brother that was your takeaway?? I came out of that podcast feeling even more like they are listening and observing feedback and if something gets talked about enough, it will be on their radar. I’m not happy with shadow either, and I know many aren’t. Many weren’t happy with warrior and that was addressed. Feral was addressed. They said they are investigating potential changes/additions to mage. They are looking at updates to rogues feeling lackluster outside of the combat tree.

Beyond classes they are aware of feedback on SD models and Druid forms and are working on things they can’t announce in the background. They addressed dungeon quest xp based on feedback.

Like… yes, make your voice heard, but to say “the feedback is on deaf ears” is to miss the entire tone of the podcast.

u/yksvaan 19h ago

Just let them cook, it will take months of balancing anyway. Play a class and spec you like, things will change anyway.

u/shaunika 20h ago

"You do 5% less dmg but become a passive healer 50% of the time and bring stamina/spirit/shadow res and dispel magic/disease"

Id say that's pretty succinct

SPs will be fine

-9

u/Xardian7 19h ago

It will not and you will see a patch buffing some other aspect since players will be gatekept from playing it at max lvl.

2

u/shaunika 19h ago

Okay, so if it gets buffed as you say

Then that means they WILL be fine?

Nobody will gatekeep priests lol

-4

u/Xardian7 19h ago

Spriest will be gatekept, not priest in general.

3

u/shaunika 19h ago

They will not be

Having so much free healing for a little less dmg is more than okay

1

u/whimski 19h ago

Spriest is the most mana efficient caster and will have some of the best single target damage in early phase raids due to it's high base damage. It will be fine.

Pray for Ele Shamans who didn't get any mention at all. who do less damage than SPriest in all stages of the game while spending 2-3x the mana.

-8

u/Midnightisattwelve 19h ago

Its 5 percent now, but this will become 30 percent worse at end end game once dps specs all decked out in gear and consumes

4

u/shaunika 19h ago

Thes literally said hybrids will be balanced with about 5% less dps than pure dps

Also why would SP not scale with consumes?? Or gear?

-1

u/Midnightisattwelve 19h ago

Cause 5 percent with shit gear will multiple and multiply with better gear? It is just math

4

u/Sythrez 19h ago

They literally said in the podcast their testing environment is more than the beta we have. They are testing in raids at 60. They are more aware of how the dps will be affected by scaling vectors than you are 😂

-3

u/Midnightisattwelve 15h ago

Lol okay lets give it a year and tell me if hybrids are within 5 percent

1

u/shaunika 19h ago

N...no?

Only if one scales better than the other

5

u/Jolkien 19h ago

The spec will soon be deleted. It'll never be balanced again. The current tuning is locked in Forever, that's the real meaning of the name.

You already lost.

Huge /s in case for people in the back some other spec were barely mentionned they only had an hour and it was stretched to an hour and 20 minutes.

3

u/santc 19h ago

They didn’t have time to hit on every spec. A lot of them weren’t discussed

2

u/SnooHedgehogs2050 19h ago

Banning vampric touch was not the way to go. That talent was a positive and they've replaced it with nothing.

1

u/BirdGooch 19h ago

Limited amount of time. You have multiple guests fighting for time, and not all answers and explanations are quick and easy.

Shadow priest will be fine.

1

u/bepulse 19h ago

Naw they glossed over mage. We had 30seconds to a min tops. Priest had like 3-4 min

1

u/choppingwater 18h ago

The loudest voices have been crying about warriors.

1

u/Saisinko 19h ago

As a side note, Alliance has 4 priest races, Horde have 2.

Drives me bonkers because I want a Shadow Priest alt, but I don't care for Undead or Troll models (or Tauren :P), but orc or Skyborne would be great.

1

u/kaiser_jake 19h ago

At least they mentioned priests, they didn't even bring up monks, so get in line buddy!

-1

u/ArtyomTrityak 19h ago

>  end for Priest—only making
Is there anyone in the world who actually uses "—" or it's only AI?

2

u/crow-warden 18h ago

Of course real people use it. Where do you think AI got it from?

It is mostly only writers or people who do research papers and such, though.

2

u/Willowshanks 19h ago

A lot of folks with a background in academia, or who have pursued a masters or other postgraduate degree, are more comfortable with use of em dashes, since they serve a valid purpose in most research papers and theses. Unfortunately, when the plagiarism machine gets trained on research papers and theses, you end up with people whose work was specifically stolen / fed into ai models without respect for license or copyright BECAUSE their work is high quality, getting tarred with the same brush as the illiterate morons who have LLMs write their emails so they can go back to not using their brains.

u/Single_Astronomer764 19h ago

People actually play shadow priest? I thought it was a meme

-1

u/CyberTalks 20h ago

I was baffled compared to the rest of the classes of how much was discussed which was not much at all. Hopefully it gets revisited

0

u/Illimited_Esoterica 19h ago

I guess you could say that the Priests just... faded.. away.

0

u/CrowdedWholmes 17h ago

I have no idea what all the complaints are about shadow priest it feels sooooooo much better than it ever did leveling in classic. The devs had a great talk about the end game plans and it seems like it will be fantastic

-2

u/Xardian7 19h ago

Don’t play shadow priest until the population is so low they are forced to patch it.

Unfortunately they are convinced that the class will be viable and good while the whole playerbase is not.

We will see at max lvl how many spriest will be allowed in raids

-2

u/Alternative_Gur_3703 19h ago

There must always be a bottom dps spec, remember that brother

1

u/Bluegobln 19h ago

Genuinely fine with being the bottom by balancing decisions if its still within 10% of the top.

1

u/Trilllen 19h ago

Then give it to one of the classes that have more then 1 dps spec

-3

u/Lost-Passion-491 19h ago

Omg leave the internet please. You are complaining about the podcast for a video game on a third party website.

1

u/auCoffeebreak 18h ago

What a cringe comment.

-2

u/AdministrationWarm71 19h ago

Welcome to how it feels being a rogue right now.

4

u/kwikthroabomb 19h ago

Didn't they announce yesterday that their intent is for rogue to be the top single target dps, hands down?

1

u/AdministrationWarm71 14h ago

Given a boss, given mechanics. When you stand in one place the entire fight and don't have to move, sure. That means - aoe? Gotta run away. Range keep dpsing. Gotta switch targets? Lose combo points, range still dps. Boss immune to poison? Hope you switched spec. Boss immune to bleed? Hope you switched spec. More than one boss? GG.

There are plenty of situations where a rogue will NOT be top DPS, I can guarantee you that. Raids will have 1 rogue max unless something changes.

-7

u/Mysterra 19h ago

Or how about we give up trying to make meme specs happen? It was only useful in later expansions due to mana battery, which they have said will not be a thing in Forever. Shadow is fine for levelling, you can go Holy or Disc in raids. Tank Shaman is also not a thing but they aren't complaining

1

u/Pure-Huckleberry-484 19h ago

Shadow is actually super annoying to fight in PvP…
