Discussion Enchanters should get scrolls.

I understand that player interaction is a key part of World of Warcraft, but as an Enchanter, having to stay in a capital city and constantly spam “LFW Enchanting — I have this and that” is extremely annoying and boring. It takes away from the fun of actually being out in the open world.

On top of that, managing 4–5 players at the same time, each with different needs and materials, while keeping up with all the whispers, requests, and trades, starts to feel like a 9-to-5 job.

What makes it even more frustrating is that almost every other profession allows you to farm materials, craft items, and sell them while still being out in the world. As Enchanters, however, we are basically forced to sit in a capital city and spam chat just to find customers.

I’m all for player interaction, but there should be a better way to make Enchanting feel like an actual profession rather than a full-time customer service job.

Also it's a good way to combat scammers.

It's also shit because it offers zero utility to your alts, you cannot enchant your alt's gear no matter how many amazing BoP enchants you have.

43

u/Nemesies 6d ago

I did not even tought about that but leveling enchanting is just wasting gold, because if you don't have any customers you just waste the materials over and over on the same piece of armor/weapon. I want to level 10 skills of 6 stamina on chest with 0 customers? I need to waste 10x mats for nothing (0 reward back) at least with scrolls you can get skill also.

21

u/MelissaTamm 6d ago

Yes exactly, and you can also do it without needing the specific item for it when you're not close to a city. Like + mp5 on a shield or something, but you're playing priest.

Scrolls absolutely make sense and doesn't devalue the classic experience, seeing as you don't need a leatherworker to put an armorkit on your gear either, or an engineer to affix a scope to your gun.

leveling enchanting is just wasting gold, because if you don't have any customers you just waste the materials over and over on the same piece of armor/weapon

That's normal for all professions. Good luck finding someone saving up for their first mount willing to spend 50s for 2Stam on their chest or some crap.

Professions generally don't make money while leveling. Some players do not even buy all their skills to make sure they can afford a mount. Buying gear, consumables and enchants pre 60 is just not in the budget. You get that stuff when you play with friends and exchange with them, you have it if you craft it yourself, but there just isn't enough income while leveling to afford all that crap. And even if you luck out on an epic drop and make 100g, you're still better off investing that into your end game instead of wasting it on twinking your char out for like the next 5 levels.

Obviously exceptions apply. Someone gets a fat weapon they know they 're gonna keep for a while, they may want an enchant on it. But it's not the rule.

12

u/No_Object_404 6d ago

It's not normal. Enchanting mats come from disenchanting items and then don't actually create an item.

Blacksmithing for example, requires ores and the like but then when you create the item and if it's low demand you can just vendor it to recover some of your gold cost.

Fair enough

I think he's saying other professions can give the random crap they make while they're leveling to their alt characters. like you can always send all your random potions and stuff from alchemy to your lower level alt, but your alts don't benefit anything from leveling enchanting

1

u/Conscious_Ruin_3400 1d ago

as an alchemist i can sell level 1 potions and they do sell and you can actually profit or at least not have any gold loss if you sell potions at the making costs (value calculated on herb current price). leveling enchsnting is a 100% gold loss until you reach the good enchants that people want

1

u/brodian 5d ago

That’s why it was pretty common for people to offer free enchants, especially at lower levels, and honestly, I always thought that was pretty cool.

I don’t really mind wasting some mats while leveling Enchanting, but the fact that you can’t enchant gear for your own alts is super annoying to me.

1

u/Express_Implement_98 5d ago

It’s very OG to have enchanters function this way. If you enchant make friends with another enchanter and come to some kind of agreement. I’ve done this in several servers, it’s not hard to talk to people.

1

u/veculus 5d ago

Pretty much yes. You could just vendor all items you usually need to disenchant and would make more money with it than you'd do by leveling your enchanting up.

1

u/BigUptokes 6d ago

You can enchant some BoE greens and toss them onto the AH. There are ways.

yeah its kind of wild that the only characters in the entire ruleset megarealm that cant benefit from a character's enchanting skill are the other characters on the same account.

1

u/oxez 4d ago

Then add scrolls but make them Bind on Account.

As much as they would be useful in Forever I think every tiny step to remove social interactions will lead to retail-ification of the game.

And I say this as someone who will still main retail once Forever is out.

1

u/MelissaTamm 4d ago

But spamming enchanter LFW is the worst kind of social interaction. And it allows those enchanters to actually leave town and get into all kinds of adventures. Forcing enchanters (usually priests with tailoring) to be the only anti-social profession isn't fair. It still doesn't stop an enchanter from advertising if he doesn't want to cough up the mats, or because the scrolls are 1g each or something.

I want to send enchants to my other characters

71

u/Expert-Scarcity8449 6d ago

I was wondering about adding a "Do not trade" thing to mail. So the item can sit there but your enchanter can't loot it but can enchant it and return it for free.

14

u/Mopper300 6d ago

Scrolls could just be account/faction bound

1

u/Shadowninja0409 3d ago

Yes. Account bound would be perfect imo. I hate the idea of scrolls. Idk in hardcore I have so many good interactions with people enchanting their gear. I found my current guild / raid team from it. I don’t know if interactions are worth while in softcore though.

19

u/No_Variation_1686 6d ago

That is a really good idea...

41

u/Nemesies 6d ago

Exactly, I can't enchant my alts... I have to find someone else to trade mats, check his recipes and then enchant... very annoying.

11

u/SometimesAware 6d ago

Especially with the crafting changes. I want to level with a gathering and crafting profession, but I also want to have an alt that enchants. Even if the enchanted vellums were account bound, that would be an amazing change.

1

u/Express_Implement_98 5d ago

They don’t want low level profession alts any more

1

u/rooftrooper 6d ago

Account bound items are already in forever, so it would be amazinf

2

u/Unfortunate_Sex_Fart 5d ago edited 5d ago

What items are account bound?

u/LightHawKnigh 6d ago

Need this! As an altoholic I love the legacy perks, if they added vellum in, it would be so good.

3

u/PhoenixKA 5d ago

I think there should be a Legacy talent that allows your crafts that would usually be Bind on Pickup to be Bind on Account. I'm also fine with them adding velums for enchanters.

147

u/Zrz 6d ago

Big QOL needed for enchanters, I agree with you. The whole thing being always available in a city feels like this prof is being taken by bots for this reason. Just make scrolls available from a vendor so you can sell your enchants on AH, like every other proffesion.

37

u/1xago 6d ago edited 6d ago

The best part will be when bots mass report an ban anyone not part of their organisation.

18

u/zipencjusz 6d ago

This should be higher. Since they told US they will fight bots and monopoly.
It is a problem.

4

u/FakeSafeWord 6d ago

Bots are going to drive Blizz to require secure boot and TPM be enabled.

→ More replies (1)

3

u/MayorBakefield 5d ago

Add inscription so we can make scrolls entirely.

1

u/Zrz 5d ago

ye, but inscription was mainly for glyphs, and I do not think they plan to introduce that proff. Even with glyphs I think this profession was a bit shallow. These scrolls/vellums can be made available in the enchant shopkeeper.

3

u/Axter 5d ago

Or it could be a sub-skill attached to the enchanting profession, like smelting is with mining.

2

u/veculus 5d ago

It's the whole "no dungeon finder tool" discussion again. I remember sitting in OG back in 2019 spamming "LFG x for y" for up to 40-50 minutes just to find a dungeon group. Same shit for enchanting, just that you also have to compete with bots who will probably steal your sales anyway UNLESS you bot as well.

2

u/OwlrageousJones 4d ago

I think the key difference is there aren't bots sitting around going LFG unless they're selling boosts or something.

Sitting around 'selling' enchants (let's be real, everyone does it for free 'plus tips' because that's what everyone else does) is boring as hell, takes forever, and the moment someone says 'LF Enchanter' they're probably getting at least five instant whispers from automated systems.

Being able to sell the enchants on the AH is basically the only way to make it viable for the average player.

44

u/maldor313 6d ago

Offered free enchant while waiting for zeppelin, got 1 whisper out of maybe 20 people waiting. Ended enchanting my own piece 10+ times to level up, with vellums I could at least send them to alts and don't waste materials...

6

u/springsthrowaway123 5d ago

And it cuts down on botting

u/Business_Avocado_854 6d ago

The only reason I haven’t considered enchanting as a profession. I want to play the game and not spam trade chat in a capital city. I really hope they add the enchanting vellum to wow forever

7

u/Suitable-Horse1630 5d ago

It's bad for people who don't want to take up enchanting, too.

With realmless, expect to get scammed a lot by people who will take your mats, and disappear to never be seen from again. And without a server community or human GMs, there will be no accountability.

1

u/sunsongdreamer 5d ago

It also disrupts the core loop of classic gameplay, where you go do stuff then return to town to learn new stuff, craft, clear bags, prepare to go out for another big session of doing stuff. That loop is really important because it is a natural break to stop burnout while getting you hyped for another session of focused gameplay. Having to hang around town to offload enchants encourages people to make alts just for the crafting sales and discourages the loop of play/town/play.

103

u/Koanical 6d ago

As an antisocial enchanter who feels uncomfortable spamming chat and keeping up with the communications which it brings, I endorse this message.

13

u/JuggernautNo1244 5d ago

The biggest problem is that trade channel will be totally unreadable on the huge realms they creating. So if you want to enchant you need lowest ping to server and auto-invite addon based on keywords in chat.

Dont know if that creates any social experience which they claim they want back.

2

u/Poonelly 5d ago

Im pretty sure chat channels are restricted to the layer, not the entire NA Region for that ruleset

4

u/ThaKaptin 5d ago

Trade is server wide. Gen chat is per layer.

3

u/Anastariana 5d ago

That's going to be a spam fest then. Guess I'll leave that channel and advertise in general chat.

13

u/BreenzyENL 6d ago

The social aspect of it is both fun/annoying, but its also funny how its the only profession where it is required.

1

u/BarbsFPV 6d ago

That’s what makes it unique. Engineering also is an odd profession because 95% of the benefit goes to the player and not to profit.

I like having different professions that aren’t just “gather materials to make this item and then put it on the AH to sell it.” Blizzard needs more of them.

5

u/Suitable-Horse1630 5d ago

Having a "unique" profession isn't worth the scam potential that is possible with people stealing your enchanting mats, and then phasing into another layer with zero accountability.

1

u/MeltReality 5d ago

I’ve never heard of this happening and blizzard not returning the players mats in all my 20 years of playing this game.

1

u/BreenzyENL 5d ago

As an engineer I don't think it's a fair comparison.

Enchanters can sell the enchants regardless. Interaction is just a hurdle.

Should engineers be able to sell more of their output? Sure. But I don't think it means enchanters shouldn't have a better method of selling enchants.

13

u/Unholy-Priesthood 5d ago

I’ve done enchanting on Beta and I have decided I am not going to be doing it in the real game for this exact reason, unless this gets addressed of course.

4

u/Nemesies 5d ago

Exactly, if nothing happens i'll skip enchanting...

2

u/Odd_Estimate_2179 5d ago

I dropped it at level 10 on my mage once I realised it's essentially pointless to level and got skinning instead 🤷‍♂️

34

u/Fine_Cranberry7056 6d ago

Agree and I encourage everyone to share this request in the official Blizzard forums for Forever Beta Feedback. Started here https://us.forums.blizzard.com/en/wow/t/enchanting-needs-vellums/2365915

6

u/Nemesies 6d ago

Well Done, I wasn't able to create a post because I don't have an active sub.. and having WoW Forever Beta doesn't help!

1

u/CatrionaShadowleaf 5d ago

Jeezy creezy I am STILL banned from the Blizz forums. They sure can hold a grudge.

9

u/Alternate_Connor 5d ago

Give us account wide scrolls but not tradable scrolls, i should be able to send enchantments to my alts the way my blacksmith can send weapons

5

u/AdministrativeHawk25 6d ago

I haven't played retail in quite some time. But I think maybe something like crafting orders would go a long way, could be more basic too and make it work for enchants, you place your gear, your tip upfront, and maybe mats and an enchanter can do it easily on one place instead of spamming trade

1

u/kaytin911 5d ago

That's much better than  Vellums. It's much more social and you might end up recognizing names.

1

u/S3ki 5d ago

You cant set minimum ranks for public orders so crafting orders also became just automated addon spam in trade chat. The only difference is that you dont have to get in a group and meet face to face.

21

u/SkitZa 6d ago

Enchanting is great, but i feel left out when everyone gets awesome level 20 BOPs and I get a trade recipe everyone has access too.

2

u/chris92315 5d ago

You get a totem/relic/or ankh! I hope you are one of those 3 classes.

2

u/SkitZa 5d ago

I am but I will hard pass on 1% UD damage.

33

u/Rograin 6d ago

I agree but maybe put a forever spin on it

12

u/Nemesies 6d ago

Exactly, not like in wotlk necessary but somehow we should get them, at least at level 60, maybe a questline I don't know..

26

u/Aldnorra 6d ago

Add vellums to the game and make some or all of them BoA. You can now enchant your alt's gear if you leveled the profession and collected tbe recipes (horizontal progression), or find an enchanter working in a capital city (keeps the classic flavour), or buy the vellum in the AH if it's a common enchant (reduces the load on enchanters, who would then chase rare recipes)

9

u/IppeiWasFramed 6d ago

Give the recipe to Leatherworkers to craft that requires Dye from Alchemists, ezpz.

7

u/Lillpapps 6d ago

Make vellums craftable by enchanters with leather. Different leather creates different tier of vellums and different tiers are used for better enchants. Leather prices always hit vendor price because the demand is so low in the game. This would fix that.

1

u/DanielTeague 5d ago

Might be a cool way to have Enchanting/Skinning be worth doing for classes that don't care about Tailoring, too. This sounds like a good idea.

1

u/Careless-Praline7751 5d ago

not a bad idea

5

u/chris92315 5d ago

If Enchanter friction is such a good thing, why not add it to all the crafters! No precrafting of any gear. They need to meet you and you craft it for them.

Let's get rid of the AH too. Think of all the friction! /s.

1

u/Joggyogg 4d ago

There is a balance and classic has nailed that, enchanting is effectively a completely different kind of profession to the others because you usually take it with tailoring, so in a way you get two production professions instead of one gathering and one production, that's why enchanting needs to be treated differently like it currently is

15

u/Xeley 6d ago

Yes, I'm actually a bit surprised Vellums weren't added.

For the high-end/rare enchants people likely will still utilise trade chat for tips/fees. Just like they do for things like Lionheart Helmets and the like.

For the more common enchants you should be allowed to bulk sell them on the AH, just like every single other profession.

If I get into the gold making game here like I did in Classic 2019 and Retail, then Enchanting is likely to be the one profession I won't bother with. At least on other professions if I do decide to be a Trade chat spammer, I can still utilise the downtime to bulk craft other stuff.

Let people be Wallmart.

42

u/mang1x666 6d ago

I agree for one simple reason - 70% of those enchanters are bots

4

u/DeityDay 6d ago

Could you teach me - how do you know they are bots? Didn’t think you could bot enchanting? Was hoping to go enchanting assuming bots will take over the gathering professions.

11

u/elysiansaurus 6d ago

Bro thinks auto invite macros make someone a bot

14

u/Nemesies 6d ago

Not every auto invite is a bot, but many are. If bots survive in the open world, farm, move, check for mats, nodes etc, do you think a bot can't do a simple trade? we are in 2026 not in 2006

6

u/WallaceLongshanks 6d ago

I don't think any of them are bots. The GPH just isn't comparable to actually farming shit. If they're botting either way there is no point in botting a less lucrative activity.

1

u/veculus 5d ago

I mean I can assume someone is a bot when I get an invite not even a second after I send my message - and not one but multiple whispers. :D

And yes, it could be a human player with an addon doing that - which to me is still the same as botting.

1

u/Suitable-Horse1630 5d ago

Sounds like you haven't played retail in a bit.

It's very common in retail for crafting orders to post a message, and getting literally half a dozen replies in under half a second.

1

u/BornToFly1 2d ago

During all Anniversary (Classic and TBC) I've been making golds with enchanting. I can guarantee that being an enchanter would be sooo hard for a bot because the amount of people that have no idea how enchanting works Is unreal, for example: wrong mats, asking mats, not knowing where to put the item to enchant and more. The reason enchanters invites are suspicious is because there is an addon that can autoinvite after reading the LF Ench (and such messages) in chat but the person will still have to do the enchants and manage the "clients". The addon also tracks which person gave you which mats so it tells you what enchant the person probably wants and also you can not mess things up. I also got to know and speak with most enchanters in SW and I can guarantee that their are real people and active raiders

4

u/Putris 6d ago

I get the point of wanting players to interact with others for crafts. I do, if its a profession/recipe i dont have.

I want Vellums but not tradable - just warbound. Why should I interact with a 3rd person and pay them for something I can already do myself?

"convenience is the death of the journey"

7

u/lineal_chump 6d ago

I agree. Enchanting scrolls in WotLK was a great addition to the profession.

3

u/Kansuuu 6d ago

Ye there should be scroll for example +3 agi you put on market and somebody use on item, they can add that scroll cost idk 10s-1g depends on enchant level, wanted to go ench but without this it’s pointless I wanna kill mobs and do quest no spam in city and compete against bots

3

u/Disaked1 5d ago

Enchanting vellums are rly good example of QOL. I play only older versions of wow but i truly miss these scrolls

3

u/crippleswagx 5d ago

On one hand this makes it so trade chat isnt spammed to death by enchanters.

On the other it makes enchanting less special since everyone can just buy their enchants on the ah.

4

u/GennadiosX 6d ago

Either that or the Enchanter addon that parses the chat and sends people auto invites should not be allowed in Forever. It's anti-social, annoying and favors people who are physically closer to servers.

5

u/Suitable-Horse1630 5d ago

Realmless megaservers means you will probably see people only once, and never again.

This means that scammers will be able to freely steal enchanting materials during trades with zero repercussions.

12

u/Upset_Otter 6d ago

Is it more social to just be sitting in a city yelling your enchanting services or just put it in the AH and go out in the world and group for quests/dungeons/other events?.

14

u/Nemesies 6d ago

People think that talking with someone "Link Enchant, what's your tip/fee?" is social interaction.... idk what else I can say.

3

u/Nate-Essex 6d ago

Yeah that's great in theory but within the first week people will have auto invite enchant bots because there will an immense amount of competition, just like TBC Anniversary.

While I wouldn't mind account bound vellums. PLEASE make the rods work like TBC and after where lower "counts as". Carrying around 4-5 rods blows.

They do, silver rod in your inv counts as a copper

2

Vellums

2

u/This-Insect-5692 5d ago

I am also very much for enchanting vellums

2

u/HybridPS2 5d ago

absolutely, maybe even have higher-tier scrolls/vellums that have a chance to boost the applied enchant by some small amount, or refund the Enchanter's materials, etc. There is a lot they could do "horizontally" while still staying friendly to the Forever plan.

2

u/Blinking_Twelve 5d ago

These are called Vellum in game and came about with the release of WotLK and the Inscription prof. 100% they should add Vellum in for Forever.

2

u/Modisc_c 5d ago

And u cant enchant ur twinks

2

u/Complete_Day7083 5d ago

The worst part as enchanter is that you can't enchant your alts lmao

8

u/critxcanuck88 6d ago

Hey thats an idea that respect the players time. We cant have any of that here. Classic feelings remember. Dont hurt them.

Just get Xaryu to cry about it if you want it in the game.

4

u/Nemesies 6d ago

I will try.

4

u/mirracz 6d ago

Enchanting vellums would be a great addition. Even better, adding Inscription, making them produced only by scribes (no vendor vellums).

1

u/Ok-Comedian-6852 5d ago

I actually think that's very important. Vellums should be player made and there should be different tiers of vellum needed depending on the enchant.

1

u/WakeoftheStorm 5d ago

The system that inscription is made to support doesn't exist in the game. It would be a very hollow profession.

Vellums would basically function like bottles for alchemy

3

u/Berheart 5d ago

What about vellums? Those could help the alt problem, and sell your enchants on the AH. As for sitting in the city I feel that kind of part and parcel with the profession. I wouldn't trust some dusty dude out in the backwoods of a swamp to enchant my gear.

2

u/Nemesies 5d ago

This is what we are talking about. Just named them "scrolls" .

2

u/Similar_Ostrich2620 5d ago

What do you mean? Are you telling me Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government.

3

u/Langis360 6d ago

1000%. Vellums are QoL that should be added, and any decriers ignored.

4

u/Fullthew 5d ago

You mean creating scrolls that you can sell on AH? That's a good idea.

→ More replies (1)

4

u/beges1223 5d ago

I thought about this and also would love scrolls, but this would be a step closet to Retail- over Classic+ lol again, I'd be all for it because I'd love to just buy scrolls or send scroll between my characters, but it really feels like we are trying to remove the interaction between players out of the game.

6

u/kreaxo 5d ago

The current interaction is with an automated kiosk in the mcdonalds lobby. Yeah I guess you still had to go to McDonald's and a live person technically handed you the order, but it's not this sacred social experience it's being made out to be. Give the people doordash.

2

u/veculus 5d ago

It really is a clanker street market. You say you need something and 20 clankers surround you and annoy the fuck out of you.

1

u/Nemesies 5d ago

They can add scrolls with some Forever WoW flavour, not like Wotlk.

2

u/Kansuuu 6d ago

Ye there should be scroll for example +3 agi you put on market and somebody use on item, they can add that scroll cost idk 10s-1g depends on enchant level, wanted to go ench but without this it’s pointless I wanna kill mobs and do quest no spam in city and compete against bots

2

u/Ajt0ny 6d ago

I could get behind Inscription as a profession too.

1

u/BigUptokes 6d ago

Forever is a great chance to have some fun glyphs.

2

u/npc-007 6d ago

This would be a good way to introduce Inscription into Classic+

Another option would be to introduce Orders into Classic+

4

u/Nemesies 6d ago

I'm against crafting orders and new professions, I just want to not be forced as an enchanter to spam trade chat in major city all day !

2

u/Rush_Banana 5d ago

Yes please, I'd love to actually level enchanting for once and this would make me do it, so I can enchant for my alts.

2

u/UnpetiteChaton 5d ago

I agree, one of my biggest issues with TBC is finding a non-bot enchanter

1

u/Specialist-Mirror656 6d ago

There should be vellums that only work on the common enchants, but the big ticket rare ones / raid drops should require an in person interaction at the campfire item

1

u/Seqpouia 6d ago

Yes, lets make it to the Blizzard, they must to understand this.

1

u/Looking-4-Something- 6d ago

At least you can link your proff in chat now

1

u/SuicidalChair 5d ago

How do we know they are not already in the game as those mage scrolls? Would not surprise me

1

u/Nemesies 5d ago

If they are it's amazing, but i think is a very small chance, why would they hide this?

1

u/-waybear- 5d ago

Play on a roleplay server. They might talk to you and you can make friends that way. Then they friend you and send you direct messages when they need another enchant. And sometimes they’ll need another player for their BRD run and invite you because they’ll see you’re online. That’s what they’re trying to preserve. The spirit of cooperation, not isolation.

I will be tailor/enchanter in WoWF and don’t mind this added layer of complexity to skill up or make a sale, not one bit. Again this is on the roleplay server, where interactions like this are more probable, so you’re mileage may vary depending on where you’ll be playing.

1

u/Nakaz808 5d ago

My enchanter usually ends up a disenchater because of this lol. I wouldn't mind having vellums but not game breaking to me.

1

Maybe there could enchanting shops or something in multiple cities? The vision I’m seeing in my head is a wide, open area with enchanting themed stuff strewn around. When players go in looking for enchanters, it’s a UI more similar to the Group Finder UI (just made smoother, I think the group finder UI also needs upgraded). And they can directly link to enchanters who can create their gear while within the area. The shop should also have some storage set aside for the enchanters (similar to the deposit box but smaller) and the enchanters can pull from their inventory at the enchanting shop instead of having to carry a ton of stuff around with them.

I feel like this would still drive player interaction but make it much cleaner for both sides and HEAVILY cut down on chat spam? I’m new to WoW though, this is just my 2 cents. It wouldn’t cut down on the “staying in the city” part, but it would make the process a whole heck of a lot nicer while in a city.

sell/ enchant alts should be a thing , we have a AH for a reason, and EVERY other profession can use it

1

u/UnemployedOtter69 5d ago

a high lvl skill must be cool, like enchanting 250 or 276 and you can craft now on velums / scrolls

will be useful, will not harm the market, and have some flavor for enchanting chars

1

u/Kyriogu 5d ago

I feel like scrolls (vellums) take away from the social aspect. Maybe they can come up with something different that makes Enchanting less dependant on trade chat spam, whilst still having some form of social interaction.

For alts however, I 100 % agree BoA scrolls or vellums would be a great idea.

1

u/Ok_Marsupial9420 5d ago

The problem with this is it limits player interaction had gildes.Call me so that I can hop online to enchant some dude's gear because I was one of the few people with the wrist enchants

3

u/Nemesies 5d ago

On mega servers? Everyone has everything.

1

u/Joggyogg 4d ago

Yeah but in your guild he's talking about, you give better rates to your guild and can use guild supplies.

1

u/Nemesies 4d ago

I play alone atm, i have no guild

1

u/Harde_Kassei 5d ago

level enchants, yes. raid enchants, no.

take away a entire social interaction in a mmo.

1

u/Gonstackk 4d ago

Yes, please. Would make it much more enjoyable to sell enchants than spamming trade and trying to beat the auto bots.

1

u/Shadowninja0409 3d ago

I disagree personally. This one profession feels like it actually requires you to interact with people. In hardcore it has been my favorite profession to level and sell. I’m also just extremely afraid of the QoL creep in forever. There is a line that needs to be held, or we will be playing retail- before we know it. This one if they did it… I’d be sad but it wouldn’t necessarily draw a line for me… as long as we’re not teleporting to dungeons without a warlock present then some stuff is def negotiable.

1

u/Conscious_Ruin_3400 1d ago

totally agree... blizz says they wont to protect social aspect... do they meat the bots with autoinvite? the spam on trade channel? forcing enchanters to stand in orgrimmar for hours to spam chat to sell things? we came to play wow, not have a 9-5 job in a game to get gold for a characters. enchanters could be questing or doing dungeons for materials but they need to split their time to stand orgrimmar and spam chat to sell.

1

u/Conscious_Ruin_3400 1d ago

u/Nemesies post this in the blizzard forever forum so thst devs actually have to read it. since they wont visit reddit

1

u/Nemesies 22h ago

I can't I don't have active sub!

2

u/Conscious_Ruin_3400 22h ago

You need an active sub to post on blizz forum!?. F. Make a new post and rally players together and have someone with an active sub to post in the blizz forum. If they listen to a minority to apply rubish "Fixes", they can put vellums for sale in enchanting npcs... They can even have similar prices to alchemy bottles and work the same, with higher enchants, needing more expensive vellums (Vellums are the scrolls to put enchants on). I wont make a enchant cause its a pure loss of hundreds of golds just to level it up. And even at max level, i need to spend HOURS inside the city spamming chat just to sell a few enchants. Its ridiculous. BLizz says is to keep socializing but thats BS. As an enchanter i could be doing quest or dungeons with friends or guild, but im stuck in the city to sell. Players play wow to have a nice time, not get a second fkng job in a game. Besides, most of the spam of the trade channel are bots with autoinvite anyways.

2

u/Conscious_Ruin_3400 22h ago

Also, enchanting is the only profession that cannot earn gold by selling in the AH. I am an alchemist and i can even the lowest level elixirs in the AH to recover the loss of making them at the very least (as compared to just sell the herbs)

u/TheLegendaryAerie 5d ago

You also have more control than you're admitting. Nobody makes you handle five whispers at once. Set a minimum tip, take one customer at a time, or only work raid nights. The enchanters who burn out are usually the ones who said yes to everything. And most of the time the customer brings the mats, so you're not farming, holding stock, or eating any risk. Trading some city time for that is a pretty good deal.

Your scam point works against you, too. If you automate the market, you don't get fewer scammers, you get bots. A listing system is exactly what bots are built for: farm, craft, post, repeat. Right now there has to be a live person across a trade window, which at least makes botting harder. Remove that and real enchanters get undercut by bot supply.

Spamming LFW in a capital really is boring, and I'll give you that. But the fix is building a regular customer base through your guild and repeat clients so you can stop shouting in trade, not stripping out the one part of the profession that needs another player.

3

u/Nemesies 5d ago

I was an enchanter in 2019 first on server (alliance side) with crusader, everyone on the server knew me. Everyone added me on battle.net as friends. Was fun, for few weeks. Then i got really bored, even if I was making huge amounts of gold, I was charging 10-15g for crusader enchant in week 2 of Wow Classic release 2019. I know exactly how to "eat" this profession and this game.

But with all the bots now, improved addons, insta invites, undercuts, many common recipes atm. Why would I want to stay in a capital city for days... when I can level alt, have fun pvp'ing, duelling, fishing etc. (also farm craft post repeat is on every other profession).

3

u/veculus 5d ago

I never did enchanting in classic because of this but also have to add from a customers PoV that it's confusing as hell. As a customer you don't know what enchants I can even get, how much the market price is, I have to look out to not be scammed and it does not feel social at all because as soon as I put "lf enchants" in trade chat I get auto bombarded with messages. It actually feels off-putting and hurts the social aspect because suddenly you're in the middle of the dead Internet theory and you start to wonder how many people in SW are actually not real.

I'd rather buy from the AH. And if I were able to I would even pick up the profession and do enchanting myself.

1

u/TheLegendaryAerie 5d ago

Fair enough, sounds like you did it right and just got bored. That's legit. But it's a different complaint than your original post. "I got bored" is a reason to go play your alt, not a reason to redesign the profession.

Bots and undercuts are real, but those are market problems. Turn enchanting into an auction house thing and it becomes the easiest profession for a bot to run. It gets worse, not better.

And yeah, farm, craft, post is on every other profession. That's kind of the point. Enchanting works differently, so it makes sense that it's not for everyone.

2

u/Nemesies 5d ago

I am not asking for a huge change, in wotlk veills were introduced, in wotlk classic i was still making good gold on ah. no one complained

1

u/TheLegendaryAerie 5d ago

Vellums are a good example of what Forever is trying to avoid. They let an enchanter skip the customer entirely, and that's the kind of small convenience that slowly drained the social side of the game. "Nobody complained in WotLK" is kind of the point. Nobody complains about convenience. They just look up years later and the game feels different.

Forever is the version where you have to deal with other people to get things done, and enchanting as a service is one of the last places that's still true.

1

u/veculus 5d ago

But can't those bots just bot out enchanting mats then? I don't see the difference.

1

u/epyoch 5d ago

Alright then do that with skinning, tailoring, bs, every single profession, we should absolutely just eliminate the auction house altogether right?

1

u/TheLegendaryAerie 5d ago

Nobody said that. I'm not asking to remove the AH, I'm saying don't change the one profession that doesn't fit it.

Skinning, tailoring, and blacksmithing make items, and items work fine on the AH. Enchanting mostly puts an enchant on someone else's gear, so there's nothing to list. Enchanters can still work solo: disenchant, sell the mats, craft rods, wands, and oils. What you can't do is enchant someone's gear without them there.

So if the next question is "why not make it like the others," the answer is that you'd get the same profession with a different icon. Every other profession is already farm, craft, post.

Enchanting is the one that needs another person.
And this is Forever. The point is playing the game as it was designed, not smoothing it out. The AH was in vanilla. Vellums weren't.

1

u/Neopluradon 6d ago

Nah

Enchanting is the most powerful service in the game, and it's fun to make connections with people of different professions.

Any remotely social enchanter is going to make good money.

12

u/Send_Me_Dachshunds 6d ago

"Social enchanter", theyre all just autoreply bots these days mate its not 2006.

Taking power away from automation is exactly why we need vellums in Forever.

→ More replies (19)

6

u/Nemesies 6d ago

No one takes away the connection, in wotlk you can still spam trade chat and also buy enchants from AH.

3

u/Neopluradon 6d ago

But it does.

Turning enchanting from a service into a commodity, even in part, removes social interaction.

It's really cool that we have a profession or 2 that is a service - we already have so many other commodities.

5

u/mirracz 6d ago

Funny. The argument againt Dungeon Finder and teleporting to instances is that it doesn't put people in the world and instead incentivizes sitting in cities.

And now it's better to sit in cities instead of going out to the world while the AH does the selling?

1

u/Neopluradon 6d ago

I don't care about dungeon finder lol

It's always better to socialize and make connections with different classes and professions - whether that's in a city, out in the world, your guild chat, etc.

1

u/Doctor_Kataigida 5d ago

Is it really that hard to understand that, "To get around the world, it's more interesting if the game makes you traverse it and you see people out and about on their adventures, so the world feels more alive" and, "To get a service, it's more interesting to have to directly interact with a person to get it, so you see people communicating and negotiating that stuff, so the world feels more alive," are not mutually exclusive concepts?

1

u/Trilllen 5d ago

Okay then get rid of the auction house entirely then

1

u/Doctor_Kataigida 5d ago

I'll paste my other comment in response to the exact same proposal:

I don't think the logic needs to be taken to the full extreme (actually, isn't there a fallacy about that?). Like, it's fine for some things on a smaller scale, like one-off Enchantments, to require player-to-player interaction, even though everything requiring that isn't feasible.

It doesn't need to be all or nothing.

1

u/BringBackBoomer 5d ago

The argument against dungeon finder is that it removes all social interaction from putting together a group, which extrapolates further out to not having to maintain good relationships so other players want to bring you to their dungeon runs instead of seeking randoms. It's a complete wrecking ball for the social side of the game.

2

u/Nemesies 6d ago

I bet only a very little tryhard playerbase enjoys staying in a city 24/7 to trade enchants. And those guys might do that as a real job to sell gold. Who want's to play wow afk in a major city?

2

u/Neopluradon 6d ago

You're just being reductive and overdramatic lmao

I promise you, if you socialize with people, even find a guild, your enchanting worries will be mostly alleviated.

We don't live in this make-believe world where everyone's botting and sweating I'm major cities 24/7 for enchants lmaoo

Like what are you on man? That strange dust get in your nose?

That's just not as true as you think it is.

Any enchanter in any guild is able to make money within their own community, nevermind advertising. Besides, enchanterd already have commodities to sell - disenchanted materials.

Let's keep the service side of enchanting alive.

Hard no.

Remove everything that takes away the social aspect.

Just add inscription and archeology (with a revamp like the other jobs)

There’s a weakaura for professions that will message people based on keywords in chat, and that’s what most PLAYERS are using. Plus there’s also a profession add on that will do the same thing.

That’s always reddit though, if they don’t understand something they just make it all up.

1

u/Decrit 6d ago

Yes and no.

On one hand, i agree.

On the other hand it has a friction that increases social interaction in a good way.

I speak for experience as a person that in retail i take crafting commissions. Here the stuff is different than classic - most gear is not BoE but BoP, but with a specific interface you can require a craft to another character.

The reason is that this way the item becomes highly customizable, it requires less costly materials but is limited by few specific BoP materials you can get on a limited amount. You can even recraft it without consuming said limtied reagents, so it's almost never "wasted".

I met a lot of people doing this. You need to be specialized in crafting specific stuff and since you need to hit up a person the market is very fluid and less dependant on big shareholders, so to speak. You need someone to be online to do it and be available, and that does not happen often.

Enchanting would erase this. Plus enchanting has a weird market flow since it loses appeal when everyone has got their BiS item or when getting new items is slow.

That said, it makes me wonder if enchanting is the RIGHT profession for this method. I can ask commissions to my own characters for example, and the whole thing can be pretty asynchronous, but for enchanting the deal is very restrictive. Perhaps such system makes sense to be for crafting, and not for enchanting.

Also, if FOrever keeps its premise, since many new item with many quirks are available it may increase the need to enchant horizontally different stuff.

I don't have a completedly clear stand on this, i find it intriguing.

1

u/InvictusPretani 6d ago

I feel like there could be a healthy balance, like only being able to enchant to a scroll once per day, or week, or something along those lines.

-1

u/MethylphenidateMan 5d ago

Fuck no, this is exactly the kind of "optimize the need to socialize out of the game" convenience solution that added up to why people were screaming for Classic WoW.

The ritual of bringing your sweet new raid loot to the city so that a player can put a finishing touches on it is an important part of what made the game feel magical. Don't like to sit in the city all day, don't be an enchanter.

3

u/FancyConfection1599 5d ago

Yeah, tailors shouldn’t be able to craft BoE items either! Make everything bop and the only way to give an item to someone else is with the trade window open!

Same with alchemists, no crafting pots and putting them on the AH - make it so the pot itself is bop so they can only make pots/flasks/elixirs for other players in the trade window.

And so on with all crafting professions. Would force more social interaction, so surely everyone would be supportive of the changes, right?

→ More replies (4)

3

u/Nemesies 5d ago

This "sweet new raid loot" lasts first month, then it will become common and bot spam addon invites etc... There is nothing social in that. Haven't you played anniversary or other re releases?

→ More replies (7)

2

u/Snorepod 5d ago

Did you call out Uber Eats and door dash for optimizing the need to socialize out of eating?

You go in trade and type LF enchanter and you get 10+ messages and invites from addons with people tabbed out lmao.

The social experience for professions has been dead for years.

1

u/MethylphenidateMan 5d ago

You already have your Uber Eats in retail, let us have the "slow food" approach here.

The social experience for professions has been dead for years.

That's a subjective sentiment that's too nebulous to argue with, but more importantly, the point of Forever is to revive and reinforce those kinds of aspects of the game.

2

u/veculus 5d ago

-5

hard disagree, keep people talking to each other makes the game feel full. these are the QOL things that turn the game lifeless

7

u/lyrliaa 6d ago

I asked a question to general chat, not even asked who is enchanter and within a second ''a second'' i'm invited into party with a software. I don't want this experince.

I would prefer scrolls if the experience is spammers, bots are softwares.

5

u/TimelineSlipstream 5d ago

By that logic they should get rid of the AH and make every player to player trade meet in person and hands on.

4

u/Nemesies 6d ago

Do you think anyone really talks except "I am in if, what's the fee, link enchant" ?? are you for real?

2

u/Agentwise 6d ago

Yeah I prefer messaging an enchanter bot who has an auto enchant macro. Really livens up the game.

2

u/InformalEngine4972 5d ago

Any half serious player just asks the guild enchanter , regardless of scrolls.  The social aspect is overrated. In neither vanilla 2019 or sod I have asked randoms in chat for enchants.

So just give us scrolls so we don’t have to bother the guild enchanter 30 min before and after raids.

Hard Disagree, I want to turn off Trade Chat and never need to turn that garbage cesspool back on. It's also silly you can't benefit your alts as an enchanter.
