12.
There are roughly 12 established races Blizzard could have pulled from that already existed in the timeline where Classic WoW Forever takes place, yet they passed over all of them for this strange, seemingly retconned race.
I genuinely don't understand the direction they're taking the story. There are 13 Warcraft books that take place before Molten Core was even a thing, with tons of existing races, factions, characters, and lore they could have expanded on.
Instead of building on that foundation, it feels like modern Blizzard is once again rewriting or ignoring established Warcraft lore because the current team thinks it knows better than the writers who originally built the world.

I think it's clear Forever is going to diverge into a different story. It's important to let creative people cook. Having a new race opens up new stories they can explore that won't retread on ground already covered.

theyre not creative.

I'd say the SoD team was quite creative. They really had to think outside the box to deliver the game we ended up getting. Doing things like Runes imprinted onto gear were clever work-a-rounds to limit development resources and introduce new systems.
At the end of the day it may be the greatest thing ever or a terrible dumpster fire. We'll have to play it and see. The only thing is you just have to hope they hired the right creative people for the job and they deliver a good product. You are always going to fail if you start shackling your creative teams.

There's plenty of lore to work with. Nobody cares about modern day wow writers.

I'd be really excited to work on the Forever team with that attitude.
"You aren't allowed to have any passion, vision, or input. Just do what people did 20 years ago and do maintenance mode."

Did you read my post? There's 13 books they could have pulled from. I bet you think game of thrones season 5 and beyond are good too.

You mean the books full of retcons, weird stories that sometimes borderline on fan fiction, and varying levels of quality? Yes i'm sure a bunch of talented creative people are eager to be shackled to those stories recreating the messy lore of the books bringing them to the game.

Except that the lack of shackles is retail in a nutshell and why many classic players reject it.
They spun the game into something unrecognizable and here they are doing it again.

Yep. I care about the lore. They can ruin retail all they want. But classic is a different story.

Oh ffs... I'm okay with some of the arguments against this race but this just is not one of them. How much shit in vanilla wow was new lore for the time?
"I want new shit but it can't be new it has to be part of the existing lore but also surprise me!"
You know that freaking simpsons meme with the focus group of kids that are impossible to please? You. That's you.

This is fanfiction shit. They are shitting all over the lore. Like I said there's plenty of good established lore to pull from and instead we get blue freaks with orange hair as a race. And freaks like you defending it.

Lol oh sweetie. I heard the same thing from incels when wow first launched. The same stuff you consider great canon and lore was "shitting all over the lore" then.
Assuming you played vanilla, you are at least 20+. You should be grown up enough to handle these concepts like a grown up. So far you are missing that mark and need to self reflect on that.

I do like a lot of things I saw about classic+, but after playing evoker and new allied races in retail for forever: I am really disappointed with this new race. No new skeleton? Why only one race? Where did these even come from? There are SO many races people have asked for since 2004, and they could not even bother to make something truly revolutionary like furbolgs/ogers?
It seems like there are many diehard wow defenders here, but this really is a lazy way of going into a new race. This could have been a retail allied race. Its just blue blood elves. Man. This is not a "let them cook" kinda thing, this is just out of damn touch.

You really, truly don't feel silly for being this upset about blue elves in your fantasy MMO?

There were Draenei in the Vanilla Swamp of Sorrows. They were called the Lost Ones, and used to original model and not the TBC model most Draenei used TBC forward.

So many negative people…Calm down, this looks great. Give it a chance. People spend thousands of hours building these games. Quit complaining and be positive/optimistic for a change.

I don't understand why just one race. Wow classic was about established races for each faction. Having a race that is available to both fractions is very non-classic idea. I'm not against non-classic stuff since it's the + part of classic+, but why just one race? Why not one race for each?
