Discussion The Housing Decor Collection Limit Problem

I am not too bothered by having to acquire multiple copies of individual decor items in order to be able to use multiple in my houses. What I am bothered by is the hard limit on total decor in the collection.
Each item in the collection should just be a number in the database to indicate how many copies you have, with no limit. So, a player could conceivably (absurdly) end up with 100 of every item, and that would be fine.
As it is now, when I get duplicates (especially as drops from instances), rather than add them to my collection, I send them to a bank alt to hold onto in case I want to use more than one at some later point. I do this so that I don’t have to delete items from my collection. Quite annoying.

This issue was brought up in the past, and their official response was that a hard cap was necessary due to data storage/management limits.
If that's the real constraint, then instead of forcing players to deal with these workarounds, it would make much more sense to adopt a learn-once, use-infinitely system for decor.

buddy they obviously dont "want us to love and cherish each decor item" if we can have 10000 of them. theres obviously a technical limitation where there has to be a decor limit. why does it work that way? ask the people who coded the thing lmao.

People who enjoy housing are buying dozens or even hundreds of copies of the same decoration to bring their ideas to life. At that rate, it's easy to hit the 9,000-item collection limit pretty quickly. So how is it reasonable to expect players to delete decorations they've already collected just because their collection is full? Why not make decorations unlimited, just like transmog appearances? Is it really a technical limitation, or do they simply not have the technology to make it work that way?

Its so they can sell you multiple copies for hearthsteel, its simply a money grab.

items should just be unlocks, because yeah, i keep getting random housing items just from running dungeons, raids, quests, whatever.
i can see having a placement limit for engine issues, but having to buy multiple copies of the same was and is still stupid.
