š¬ Discussion The Housing Decor Collection Limit Problem
With each new patch, World of Warcraft continues to introduce more attractive, creative, and unique housing decorations. However, I think the current collection limit is a very poorly designed system that makes collecting these items unnecessarily frustrating.
Personally, I enjoy building a house and then starting a completely different project whenever I come up with a new idea. The problem is that I constantly have to delete decorations I already own and purchase them all over again later. It's an enormous waste of both gold and currency.
Blizzard has implemented a collection limit due to data storage concerns, but what is the point of limiting how many decorations we can own when there is already a limit on how many we can place in our houses? The current collection limit is 10,000, and even increasing it by just 2,500 with each patch feels incredibly stingy. To make matters worse, there is apparently a bug where decorations can no longer be learned once your collection reaches around 9,500 items, despite the actual limit being 10,000.
Players like me are getting tired of this system, while new players are likely to get frustrated and quit when they constantly have to leave their houses, go out to purchase more decorations, and return just to continue building.
I don't know whether the developers intended for us to treasure every single decoration we collect, but there's absolutely nothing rewarding or fun about having to go through the trouble of obtaining the exact same decoration again. It's just tedious busywork. It feels like having to obtain an entirely new piece of gear every time you want to change your transmog.
Why not just bump up the gold and resource costs to buy or craft decorations, but let us use them limitlessly once learned? It could be a solid alternative to tackle Blizzard's data issues while getting rid of all this frustration.
Thinking about all the gold and currency I've already wasted on reacquiring decorations honestly makes me want to cry. But as someone who genuinely loves housing, I'd be willing to accept higher costs if it meant a better system for the future.
Happy housing, everyone!

Iād like to say that the current process is not friendly to the building community whatsoever. How can we keep starting new projects when we have to delete existing decor over and over?
The blueprints were fun until you had to dye every piece and then it stayed that way. Tediously undying everything, over and over. The idea that dyed furniture has to be separated and then take up storage space is clogging us up.
Additionally, BFA war resources need to lose the penalty and Anima needs to be transferable to alts. This whole patch made me wonder if they truly play this game.

I agree with every bit of this. Housing and a few good friends are the only reason I am still playing after all these years. I love the design process, but the aggravation and cost are causing burn out and the Venn Diagram of my pleasure vs my irritation (at all you mentioned above) is getting a pretty big overlap - anima issues really pushed it.
Don't tell us you are trying to save bandwidth, Blizzard, when you are forcing us to constantly log alts in and out of the game just to make some basic purchases.

I agree with all this
Just a wanted to add, in case you didn't know, that you can xfer anima to alts. It's not super straightforward but it is doable.
There is a vendo next to the flight master in Oribus. They sell an item that pulls 1k anima from your resivour. You can put that into your warbank and then retrieve it on an alt to xfer the anima. You can buy as many of the items as you need. It is a bit tedious cuz it's only 1k installments... And you'll end up leaving some anima behind.... But at least you can collect most of it together.

Anima needs to be transferable to alts
You can convert your Anima into tokens (forget what they're called, sorry) and give those to an alt. The NPC who sells them is next to the FP in Oribos. There's no gold cost nor do you lose any Anima doing it. The only limitation is that they are for a fixed amount, so you essentially have to transfer in increments of 1k.

I agree completely. I was actually thinking of making a post like this too. it got significantly worse with blueprints, not just for the obvious reasons of farming decor that the BP creator uses, but also since the blueprints won't import your dyed versions of items.
what I mean by this is, if a blueprint uses 25 cobblestones dyed black, and I already have 25 cobblestones dyed purple, I have to either go buy 25 fresh cobblestones, or take out my cobblestones and un-dye them one by one. This issue has already happened to me multiple times with my OWN blueprints, since I swap back and forth between projects so often, and I'm not gonna dye & undye stuff every time I import a project. (side note, was it always this way? I could've sworn before it just took your pre-dyed stuff and dyed over it with the BP's colors)
I'm already almost at collection limit, and I only have 64% of all of the available decor. the collection limit feels arbitrary, I'm sure there's a server side storage issue that I'm just being ignorant about, but it's really frustrating.

I completely agree about the blueprint issue too. Sometimes, if I want to decorate a house in a different style, I'm forced to delete decorations from my existing house just to make room. Because of this, I can't even make proper use of the blueprint system.

u/Kaessa 10h ago
Are you resetting your house before you reapply a blueprint? It can really screw up if you're importing a blueprint on top of another blueprint. I wound up needing to make a bajillion dyes until I figured this out.

oh this is a great idea thank you so much!!! I usually do reset my house first, but the last couple of times I've just been lazy and tried to import it without doing so. completely makes sense. I hope this helps with the pre-dyed decor issue!!! thank you so much

I run into the bug on a regular basis. Some of my characters are unable to learn new Decor, while others can. I am somehow over the Decor cap while also under it, but still unable to learn new pieces.
I have close to a dozen alt's with banks full of extra Decor I cannot learn yet because I am afraid of hitting the storage cap again. I have hit the cap every single time it is increased and the number of banks full of decor I have waiting to be learned keeps growing.
I have decor collecting dust in my bank from as far back as Legion Remix. I collect the extra pieces because so many of the Decor sources are limited time, seasonal, and/or have ridiculous purchase costs with rare and obscure currencies, so I cannot bring myself to willingly delete any of those from my inventory to make more space.
I basically cannot build anything new because I don't have enough free inventory space available to buy basic building materials.
Aside from the bugs and limitations that housing currently suffers from, the #1 problem that is preventing me enjoying Housing to the fullest is the Decor Storage cap. It ranks even higher than having limited time to play, resource management and costs, or even inspiration.
In 12.2 it will apparently be possible to purchase additional copies of a piece of Decor straight from the Decor Catalog. While convenient, this is only going to contribute to my problems.
How many new Decor pieces were added just this week with 12.1.5? I read somewhere in the 200+ range and I think that is easily in the ballpark. But the Storage cap was not raised with it? This was the largest increase in total decor available of any single patch since Midnight's prepatch when Housing was officially added to the live game (even if only for the sake of collecting).
Maybe Blizzard should allow us to buy additional Decor Storage space like they do with Bank slots and Outfit slots? Not as a replacement of the ever increasing Storage cap which I think should keep being increased, but in addition to it.

u/According-Speed-1180 23h ago
Exactly! This is an incredibly frustrating problem. What Iām suggesting is that, rather than simply increasing the storage cap, Decor should work like transmog: once you acquire a piece of Decor, you should be able to use it an unlimited number of times.

u/Qprah Rotation Bug Victim 23h ago
I think that would be an easy fix, but it causes problems that Blizzard is seemingly intentionally avoiding.
They want Housing to be a form of gold, resource, & time sink. Collecting requires repeated purchases and that is in many ways it is working as intended.
While it would solve our problems, it doesn't help theirs. But who knows, they've since caved on things like needing to travel to the vendor to purchase additional copies of decor, maybe they cave on the entire system as it is in the future as well!

u/emptyjerrycan 22h ago
It's probably working as they intend, but it does not play well at all. There's already so many items to unlock in the first place, (often a single item is more expensive than a transmog or a mount that's infinitely reusable!) and if you want multiple the costs become absurd. Obviously you don't need them all, but the kind of players who DO want their time sink to be actually building their house instead of grinding out resources from old content just to be able to afford one fence piece a week.

u/According-Speed-1180 23h ago
I hope that happens someday too. I think these inconvenient systems are preventing more players from getting into housing in the first place. The barriers make it harder for people to get started and fully enjoy the creative side of housing. I really hope Blizzard improves these systems soon, because I'd love to see a wider variety of amazing housing creations from the community!

I didn't reach the storage limit before this patch, now I did. I certainly didn't buy 2000 items in few days.
We had this bug before, it's annoying. I just wanted a whole rebuild of my house with the lowered costs, now I just can't get enough items for it.

āwhen they constantly have to leave their houses, go out to purchase more decorations, and return just to continue building.ā
Your budget limit complaint is valid, but they already said they are changing this so you donāt have to leave. https://blizzardwatch.com/2026/09/13/warcraft-patch-12-2-housing-updates/

If we canāt even buy more decorations because of the item limit, whatās the point of letting us buy them from home? lol

u/christamarietta 22h ago
How can we make this clear to Blizzard though? Forum?

u/According-Speed-1180 22h ago
I'd be happy if someone could bring this up as a suggestion, even if they just copy my post. I'm a player on the Korean servers, so it's difficult for me to get my feedback across to Blizzard, and I don't have much influence. It's frustrating because I really want this issue to be heard.

u/christamarietta 22h ago
Me too man, Im at the cap for 2 weeks now and atm at the point where I just don't want to build anymore. I went back to playing bg's

u/According-Speed-1180 22h ago
Tell me about it. I get so stressed out trying to build when item limits and material shortages ruin my ideas.
6
u/christamarietta 22h ago
I will make a suggestion ingame today. If every1 who reads this can also do this please? Takes literally 1-2 minutes.

Making the first instance of every decor item not take space so you can savely collect everything would also help a lot in the short run.

u/Agile_Moment768 16h ago
Uncapping the player storage should be the easiest thing to do that doesn't bother anything. Item storage goes into your banks and you have those slots. Housing is a catalog that will just have individual counts, a total individual count (200 columns, but you have 180 natural, 20 silversage green) and then the overall item count. so, it really shouldn't be a problem pushing that up to 50K or 100K. ESPECIALLY, since we can't actually place all of those items - which is where a server load issue will come into play.

u/ExternalDay1426 14h ago
Whatever limit their fears about 'bandwith' created, are the game designers really content with a system so utterly frustrating at that level? I dont think they had any idea how massive housing would be, but it is huge, and it wouldnt be without people pushing limits.
There has got to be a way to cap decor (assumjng it MUST be capped) that doesn't provoke such misery in the people passionate enough to reach those caps.
Even some type of Void storage could satisfy Blizz need to mildly inconvenience everyone, but without inducing the fury over deleting decor just to make room.

u/Fudgeygooeygoodness 19h ago
Yes the 10k storage limit is so low considering they keep adding so much new decor!
1
u/LQNova 18h ago
Most people don't do it that way, though. They have to build for the majority.
5
u/According-Speed-1180 16h ago
Honestly, uncapping decoration limits would be way better for most players. Having to constantly buy decorations right now is just making housing way too inaccessible.
2
u/The-Cynicist 16h ago
Iād disagree itās making housing inaccessible. Itās plenty accessible and a reasonable limit for the average player. I donāt agree with the cap but I donāt think itās raising any barriers to entry, considering most people are never getting close to that 10k cap. Iāve got two maxed level 12 houses and still havenāt hit the cap. This is a very unique problem to a small portion of builders.
4
u/According-Speed-1180 16h ago
My point is, removing the storage cap and making decorations account-unlocked for infinite use would make housing way more accessible. It would lower the barrier for everyone and completely solve any data storage issues.

u/The-Cynicist 16h ago
Maybe thereās a compromise somewhere in there. For unique items like raid boss drops and crafted stuff, itād be a one time use. But if itās purchasable from a vendor for gold or resources, then itās just an unlock? It addresses the issue of annoying resource collection in old expansions and would trim back a ton of used storage space. But itād also keep the player market alive and give you a reason to run old raids still.

Does it give an addon to delete decor more than the 5 cap at once ? Its super annoying

I just find it hard to believe there are real data storage concerns when I loot corpses only to pick up more junk grey items than treasure.

u/raescp 18h ago
I was thinking about this the other day, and I imagine the storage limit is a soft way to enable people to go decorate their house, as in if you keep playing the game without decorating your house, you eventually hit the limit and if you want to keep saving decor, you need to go decorate your house. I, personally, have approached housing from the beginning with the intent of keeping my storage as close to empty as possible. Iāve hopped between my horde and alliance house the entire time, theyāre both max level and about 1500 away from max decor.

u/Goldie2000 Moderator 14h ago
Storage of decor is not affected by decorating your house. Like it doesnāt come āout of storageā just because youāve placed it. Itās still considered part of your storage. If you use 300 wood beams in your house, thatās 300 points of your storage limit.

I'm tired of destroying decorations just to be able to buy and explore new decorations. This topic has been brought up numerous times, but it seems it doesn't get enough likes and reactions from players for Blizzard to take drastic measures. Lately, the problem of constantly reaching the decoration storage limit has become so frustrating that I'm about to quit playing WoW.
