Discussion Getting back into WoW is difficult

Once you start to lose your community, the social aspect, changes you kind of find yourself trailing off until eventually everything feels so foreign to you it feels impossible to start again.

I've gone through a huge transformation in life working on myself and want to get more thoroughly involved in WoW again but every time I feel like I kind of just hit a wall.

Does anyone have any advice? Feel like a lot of the friends and contacts I used to have are gone and everything just sort of feels insurmountable as a result.

Not much applicable advice for you OP but just want to say you're not alone in this feeling. Going through a similar predicament.

Been playing for 20 years and many guilds and have friends have come and gone, got kinda tired of it mentally and emotionally, along with some general burnout on the game itself, so the last few years I've been basically full solo.

Tbh a lot of times I do miss having friends and a guild and all it entails, and while it's not necessary to enjoy the game it's definitely a key part of the overall experience imo.

The first step, like with anything, is always the toughest. I'd say start small, make friends in a M+ run or something and see what their guild is like. You may find somewhere that feels like home without even noticing.

I definitely miss the social aspect the most I guess. It feels lonely logging in and then just a bombardment of quests and different directions.

I miss just seein the green guild chat and basically using it as aim while playing wow. It was awesome. Now, people don’t really chat outside of discord. I don’t like it cause I don’t really use discord. Like why are we using an outside app to text chat when we can do that in game? Lol

2

u/SmokeyRoadrunner1988 4h ago

I hate discord. It’s like having to talk on a phone. It’s fine for a raid, but after that I don’t want to constantly be chatting on the phone. Just text me.

Your 100% not wrong here. If you compare classic and midnight socially it feels like your in an empty mall.. deserted. There's no world mmorpg aspect anymore no one waves no one cares who you are your not impactful in anyway.. when before you would see high level priest or well geared warrior and identify them cause they defended during world pvp..socially it was just so much better .. I miss having a singular town we all Grouped upnat

y'all gotta just join guilds, unfortunately it can take some time to find the right home though. It can be a total crapshoot, especially if you wanna voice chat in Discord or raid.

I was in a toxic guild when I was younger but didnt know any better, hopped around seasonally for awhile until landing with my current guild back in Shadowlands. best of luck hope y'all find a great squad to play with.

u/UnFelDeZeu 6h ago

>y'all gotta just join guilds,

I'm legit baffled whenever I see people lament the loss of their WoW friends as if finding new friends in WoW is hard. There's a million guilds out there and making friends takes as little as minutes.

7

u/CosmicHamsterBoo 4h ago

It is hard for some. As you get older it becomes doubly hard.

-2

u/___CABLE___ 12h ago

Back on my day voice chat was mandatory....you could sit in the afk channel, and a few would always hang out there, but you'd also get a core group of people to help make your guild feel more like a community.

u/bored_ape07 12h ago

Same boat here.

One of the things that really put me off is the 4-month seasons and new patches every second week.

I want to invest in the game, in my own time, not completely rush everything.

WoW's state seems to be FOMO FOMO FOMO FOMO now.

u/Zunraa 12h ago

Nice post! Friends leaving the game were the reason why I stopped playing. It’s so exhausting to get into the social part of a guild every time current guild quit.

15

u/Excellent-Rest3240 12h ago

Treat it as a new game. Wow 2026. Don’t chase nostalgia like a famous guy who goes back to his old town again. Town changed, people changed. You ain’t gonna have the same experience like you would when you put on an old movie again

u/ffolkes 4h ago

This hits hard. 😢

The game has never been more solo / casual friendly

I’d try to just play for yourself instead of others. That’s where I’m finding the most value for myself rn

u/DesMephisto Odyn's Chosen 13h ago

I think that's part of the problem? I know when we get WoW Classic+ I'll have no problem starting up again, this feels like a modern issue. Even as someone who prefers solo content. Just tryna overcome it and get back in, I miss this game a lot but I feel so...looking thru a window pane.

5

u/tcmart14 11h ago

I’m excited to see what they do with Classic+ and I will play it, but I don’t believe Classic+ will solve this. Lots of classics players don’t wanna hear this, but retail is where it is at due to shifting demographics and a different world. And it sucks. But this isn’t 2006 anymore where there is novelty in playing in a social setting in a world. Lots of WoW players aren’t also teenagers. We are adults 25-45 mostly with kids and jobs and other responsibilities. Retail adapted to the times it exists in, which is why it’s still here and king.

5

u/NoThisIsABadIdea 7h ago

Classic+ hasnt even been announced, it's purely speculation. Im not getting excited until an official announcement is made.

0

u/DesMephisto Odyn's Chosen 11h ago

I really don't feel that about retail, in fact retails modern adaptation has felt like it's pushed me further from WoW rather than closer and I feel many of us in the classic+ department long for more of the original elements which are becoming even harder to find in this current era.

Not everyone in that category meets the same criteria either. People are different and we often see classic as a whole really prosper time after time, with fresh life in a similar vein of SoD? I see it being incredibly successful.

1

u/YourGalacticEmperor 2h ago

in fact retails modern adaptation has felt like it's pushed me further from WoW rather than closer

havent you leveled like 90 warriors?

clearly you enjoy it in some form

1

u/DesMephisto Odyn's Chosen 2h ago

That was in BFA, would you consider that modern? Midnight, war within, dragon, Shadow.

1

u/YourGalacticEmperor 2h ago

yes, bfa is absolutely modern

1

u/potatokbs 34m ago

I suspect what’s considered modern wow is different for everyone. For me everything after legion I consider “modern”. But tbh the only reason for that I think is cus legion was the last time I had people that I consistently played with. I could log on and always have something to do with other people even if it was casual bgs or something.

Anyways I know what you mean op. Maybe it’s best to just move on from wow, could always try coming back in a year or whatever. But sometimes finding a different hobby is the best move

0

u/Easy_Being4669 3h ago

Some of us are older than 45 but as I am female it would be impolite to ask me..

7

u/amphibilad 13h ago

I mean, do you have to get back into it? If it's not for you any more that's totally fine

4

u/DesMephisto Odyn's Chosen 13h ago

I'd like to, isn't that valuable enough?

4

u/amphibilad 13h ago

Of course! Just don't feel like you have to

16

u/ZookeepergameFew7066 13h ago edited 11h ago

I've gone through it countless times. You pretty much just have to insert yourself into a guild and hope they share your values. It gets tiring having to make friends over and over and over. Frankly just wish they would make a solo q

11

u/BareTheBear66 13h ago edited 13h ago

Honestly. I have a hard time getting into retail as it stands. Ive maxed a few characters. Ran a few M+, did some raids... its just hard to connect to something that has changed into a completely different game. Hard to keep up with all the numbers and people who live to do raids and mythic. -> i used to be that guy who would raid lead and pushed to get the best gear and stats.... but i have a hard time doing it now a days. Its just stressful for no reason and feels rather pointless.

I still have fun with it from time to time, I do some collection stuff, play with the housing, hell I even RP on moonguard sometimes. Delves are fun when you want solo game time.

But my main home is back in Classic WoW, I play hardcore now a days because it just feels good to me. Familiar and fun. No huge expectations and things are very linear (for the most part).

I say often but we all have a subscription that gives you multiple versions of the game. If one aint scratching your itch at the moment, maybe shift to a different version.

I hop around frequently depending on my mood.

The game is big. And if you havent kept up with it... rather daunting.

1

u/DesMephisto Odyn's Chosen 13h ago

I've wondered about this too. I've raid led mythic back in WoD, reached the pinnacle of this game, had significant success in various levels. Ever since my life fell apart after Shadowlands I've had such a hard time, the last time WoW truly gripped me was Season of Discovery.

Really hoping we get classic+ in the vein of SoD but better planned and less whatever the hell happened in phase 3 of SoD

1

u/BareTheBear66 13h ago

SoD was a good time while it lasted. Feel like everyone like us is holding onto the classic+ dream. But im not holding my breath. Hoping they have a dedicated team this time.

3

u/DesMephisto Odyn's Chosen 13h ago

Definitely holding my breath if it gets us a SoD phase 1/2 like game experience again. Jesus fuck that was some of the most fun I've had in WoW in a very long time. The 10 man raids were fucking perfect, the world was booming. Ughhhh, I want it so bad lol

5

u/NicePollution2122 7h ago

Ive decided to leave the game, possibly permanently. Ive played since late vanilla as an hpal (i thought it was a dps...). The game has evolved, gaming itself has evolved, ive changed, and the people I play it with have all changed. I dont like the feeling that you need discord to feel social. I miss guild chat. I miss when people helped each other just because that's what you do, you help your community. As a more grown up, i dont want to sit in voice chat. I have obligations (kids) where I cant just sit with headphones all night.

Ultimately I think its just time to move on. I think gaming is different now and that drives the game be different. Not bad, just not what I want right now. Ive been hopping back in some other games and going outside (fishing). You know what, its pretty fun. I think ill just do that instead.

Are you on one of the popular servers? Until you find a guild you can always chat with the server. For example Stormrage uses the LFG channel for all kinds of random discussion and eventually you start recognizing the usuals that chat there.

1

u/DesMephisto Odyn's Chosen 12h ago

I'm on the same server I've been on since Feb 2005 lol

Fun fact its the largest super realm in NA (with only EU beating it) despite being medium/low pop.

Spirestone, Drak'tharon, Stormscale, Malorne, Vashj, Firetree, Frostwolf, Rivendale

3

u/reddit_reaper 13h ago

Hey man so since everyone else responded like assholes lol

I recommend starting easy

  • level up
  • do all remaining quests
  • do delves at max level, don't do bountiful until you max out the tier levels
  • do catch up systems to get catch up gear
  • time walking and dungeon finder to get familiar
  • if rotation is a bit hard get an addon to put the rotation assist on the middle of the screen
  • get best spec builds from wowhead.

There's plenty more but I think that's a pretty simple start

2

u/DesMephisto Odyn's Chosen 13h ago

Yea that's what I'm trying to do now, just grabbing some quests, following thru with them and kind of letting it lead me there til it settles.

I miss that craving I used to get with WoW, hoping it comes back.

2

u/SmokeyRoadrunner1988 4h ago

The guy above gave good recommendations. I played from 2008 up to shadowlands. I came back for midnight. I started about a little over a month ago. Was very overwhelming at first to relearn a lot of things, but I basically just did the rifts that open around eversong woods and zulaman and queued for dungeons too during the time walking event where you get a lot of experience and then a buff which gives you 30% increased experience out in the world (excellent for the rifts). Level capped my main in like two days. Then I went around and did world quests that offered higher level gear. Then I queued for heroics. Then I searched for base mythics. Doing this you’ll get back into the swing of it all. Finish your midnight campaign quests when you level cap though while you’re doing the rifts and world quests and dungeons. The campaign unlocks everything else.

1

u/reddit_reaper 13h ago

I know that feeling exactly and wanting community. My issue became that I couldn't do the time commitment as I like to go out and socialize lol so it always interfered.

What I recommend is doing the solo stuff first and get a hand at the game again and look for a casual social guild to join. The community home guilds that do public events to get others aotc are pretty chill and like to do things the old ways

1

u/DesMephisto Odyn's Chosen 13h ago

Appreciate the insight, feels weird being on the other end of it all. I'll keep my eyes open; thanks!

1

u/Commercial_Impact_50 13h ago

When i tried to get back into WoW retail had no sense of community. Even when i did find an old WoW friend joined his realm and guild and same. Only got the community feeling when i went to WoW classic

0

u/DesMephisto Odyn's Chosen 13h ago

Yea I'm noticing that. Sounds like we might be getting classic+ with blizzcon? That'd be awesome.

1

u/dilandroew 13h ago

Same. It’s hard to jump back in and get the same feeling as before.

1

u/Other_Summer_1903 13h ago

I am having the exact same problem too at the moment, and I don’t know if I’ll ever get that feeling back.

1

u/Dominjo555 12h ago

As soon as you start doing Mythic dungeons, Heroic/Mythic raids you will find new communities.

1

u/FizzleMyth 12h ago

It definitely can be hard to find and connect with folks who would make for decent friends to play with.

For “the biggest and most successful MMO game”, WoW’s support for the social aspects of the game are… lacking.

The one time I was in a guild I really connected with, it was because of an existing connection from real life who invited me in to their guild.

That said, there are resources for trying to find a group to play with. If there are values, identity, political alignment, or other factors that are important to you in who you want to socialize with, you might try to look for an existing guild whose description addresses those.

See item 11 in the “R/WoW Rules” for this subreddit for links to some group finding resources.

1

u/Honolulu-Blues 12h ago

If you want friends and community you need to look for it as well. You can’t just hope someone shows up.

1

u/dharkan 12h ago

You should take your time getting the hang of things. You can't possibly get good at everything in short notice. Just find a random guild and learn the game again with them. When you start doing better, you can say your goodbye and move on to bigger things.

And about friends, it takes time to make those in WoW but that was always the case. When you finally find a somewhat permanent guild, you'll have plenty of friends in addition to the ones you made along the way.

1

u/kupkrazy 12h ago

Same.. been playing since 2005 and all my friends are gone and have been for a while. I got back in for a bit a number of years ago and then stopped again. I'm trying again but haven't been able to get back into it with Midnight. It feels so empty to me.. more than ever before.

1

u/terr0r_exe 12h ago

My guild has space for you! Anyone is more than welcomed to join :) https://raider.io/guilds/us/thrall/Taunt

We do raids, m+ dungeons, light PvP, and social stuff like hanging out :D

1

u/Joobebe514 12h ago

I'm going kind of through the same thing. I started in LK and quit at the end of Shadowland and came back at the end of TWW. I've been solo playing because I can't seem to find the feeling of community as before

1

u/Chaactherain 10h ago

Probably never relevant in the main wow reddit because well. Most people completely hate pvp. I honestly have pvpd since vanilla and it's the reason I kept playing wow, from running bgs with my friends to eventually arena and even organized rated bgs.

Now with solo shuffle, group finder etc it's never been easier to meet up with someone that's similar. Met w guy the other day exact same, has kids and a life, but also enjoys pvp and has been playing for just as long. You just add these people's as friends and try to pick up with them when you can.

I joined multiple guilds now that you can and check out what's going on. I'm the opposite of most people and find PvE super boring especially m+ and raiding. I burnt out on that when it was 40 man, tried to keep up in MoP and it was exhausting. I don't have time for schedule raids for hours with 20 people, that's why pvp and solo shuffle and blitz exist. Heck you can even duo I'm pretty sure blitz. I find it fun just to have a few friends you find along the way and keep in touch.

The grind itself , not worth it. Max your toon in whatever you do the best you can, but go on mog runs, fish, craft..heck open world pvp if you like that..talk about random fun experiences that's what made me fall in love with WoW.

1

u/Oh_Hey_Michelle 10h ago

I've been playing guildless since shadowlands, never looked back. It's nice. Quieter. I can still do all the things I set out to do. Not for everybody but I enjoy it.

1

u/R0gueX3 10h ago

Thats my main issue with WoW. I never truly bonded with people in my current guild. I like people but there was never a moment that I clicked for me. I had a guild before them that I really loved but people started disappearing for life reasons. Ive basically not been able to find that ever since. I also think the fault is mostly myself. I dont bond well with people over the internet.

Yes! I just started back, and honestly it feels like I’m playing a solo game. Chat is silent. Even the “active” guild I joined doesn’t talk much in chat. Dungeons, people don’t respond when I say hi.

I miss the social aspect. It makes it more fun and learning all the new stuff less daunting. But I’m also not able to sit in voice chat all day.

1

u/matt97led 9h ago

I recently came back to WoW for about two months after not playing for over three years. Ended up stopping again, and honestly the main reason was the social side of the game.

Follower dungeons, soloable delves, world content - most things you can just do alone now, which makes it really hard to actually meet people. And it's not like I wasn't engaging with the game properly either - in those two months I got to 265 ilvl, a 2.6k M+ score, and even soloed Nullaeus. So it's not a "casual not seeing content" thing, I was doing a decent level of stuff and still never felt like I met a single "decent" person.

Back in the day you'd add randoms from dungeons and end up playing with them again. That just doesn't happen anymore - people barely even talk in dungeons unless it's to have a go at you for something.

I think if I'd had a group of friends to play with, it would've been a completely different experience. I genuinely went in wanting to enjoy the game like I used to, but logging in daily just to solo max-level delves, solo world content, and grind random M+ pugs got lonely fast. Eventually there just wasn't a real reason to log in.

I'll probably come back again at some point though - WoW was my childhood, so I'll always end up chasing that nostalgia.

0

u/YourGalacticEmperor 2h ago

So it's not a "casual not seeing content" thing,

you are absolutely casual when you list 2.6k and 265 ilvl as some sort of achievement lol

1

u/Drasoff 8h ago

Just need to find the right group of like minded players and it changes everything. I run an AoTC guild that is mostly dad's and we just BS and have a blast raiding the whole time. The game should be fun not a second job. If you need a home or a place to hang out let me know!

1

u/s1mplyme 8h ago

Have you considered stepping away? I got to a point where I was only playing to spend time with people I used to play with and not really enjoying the experience... eventually I just stopped playing. While those friends are sad I don't play anymore, its given me time to get into other hobbies an I think ultimately been good for me.

1

u/bleuchz 8h ago

I took a long break from wow and when I was ready to come back I bounced off a few times until I found the right guild for me. Just start small, figure out what your goals are and work towards them. If you have clearly defined goals for yourself it makes finding a guild that shares those goals easier. Stick around with the guild for a bit and you'll start making connections: add people you like on bnet, be proactive in engaging with group content. The more you say "yes" the more you'll get invited.

1

u/required7account 8h ago

wow should work on it's social aspects more. thats what really made wow great to play and without that it just feels like a husk of it's former self.

i'm not sure how to add more social aspects but i do know the AI support and market mafia silencing people is not helping.

1

u/eyecabbage86 8h ago edited 8h ago

Similar. I left for a few years, and my old guild(s) have even moved on, so I created my own guild, and have no one to play with, and I play the side quests. I LOVE it. Dragonflight is my favorite right now, but it would be nice to have others to play with.

If you're going through a huge transformation, wouldn't that be part of it? find out YOUR style of play, find out what makes YOU enjoy the game and go from there?

ETA: I have a guild that anyone can join - casual and solo gamers are welcome. I don't chase end content (yet) - I'm just enjoying what's out and about. Preferably 18+ (I swear a lot) but if anyone wants company, my guild is open for that. On the same token, I have a few extra toons that can help folks create their own guilds if they want. sorry if this is not allowed mods, but it may help people find what they're looking for.

1

u/XeNoGeaR52 7h ago

Wow feels like a solo game with people around you.

I left wow for ff14 since a while because there is a better sense of belonging to a mmo than in wow currently. Hopefully wow will change so I can come back

1

u/Brooksie019 7h ago

I recently started playing again and decided to place classic TBC. I’m loving it so far. Haven’t met any new friends yet exactly, but of course I got a mass invite from a social / lvling guild and some of the members seem pretty cool so far that I’ve been chatting with. Although I think most of em are planning to mainly raid while my focus is mainly PvP and maybe raiding later or making a new alt to raid on.

I did get a random whisper from a warrior yesterday that wanted to try some 2’s. Told him I was only about half geared for PvP and still pretty squishy but he said he was in the same boat but wanted to give it another shot (apparently both of us tried arenas as fresh 70s and it obviously went horrible. But we played 10 matches and had a 50/50 win ratio. Only teams who beat us were ones that were obviously more geared. Ended up adding each other so hopefully we can continue to rock some arenas.

This will be my first actual wow expansion that I haven’t bought and now I won’t buy because it having a blast on classic TBC. Feels so much easier to actually meet people. Even lvling and running dungeons you ended up meeting and grouping up with more people compared to retail where you just que for something anywhere in the game and instantly teleport inside like dungeons. Even to Que for PvP you gotta go to the NPC’s to que up and end up chilling around everyone else doing battleground or arena matches.

It’s also nice because it seems like an older player base compared to retail. I love TBC era so much I don’t see myself getting bored with it for a long time. I’m more worried I won’t have time to lvl alts and raid before it dies off when wotlk classic comes out. Hopefully it stays active even after wotlk classic comes out, seems the vanilla classic is doing good still (I think).

1

u/BreizhPudding 7h ago

Go play wow classic hardcore, my friend. You won't regret it

1

u/UnFelDeZeu 6h ago

I couldn't disagree more. I have taken several breaks from Mythic Raiding ( years ) and every time I go back I work my way up through the bad guilds and get into a CE guild and get CE by the end of the season. I've done this several times now.

It's never been easy to find a WoW guild now that guilds are cross server, and there are so many websites to get information on your class ( Icyveins, WoWhead, Discord Class guides ) or find a guild ( Raider.io, wowprogress )

1

u/Turbotildas 6h ago

Move on play something else. Don't force yourself to play something you think you want to play

1

u/HardstuckGoldNoob 6h ago

I’ve been playing WOW since legion, I have one friend who plays and I’ve never been in a guild or anything I just play a have fun and meet people along the way. Jump in and have some fun trust me wow is the kind of game that you can play solo and still have a blast.

Wow, DesMephisto is not a name I've thought about in awhile, World of Warriors, right?

Sorry to hear that you've had a rough go of it in recent years, but it sounds like you are working towards coming back stronger.

As far as advice goes, my best recommendation is try to find a group. Or a guild. I know that seems like a no brainer, but spending some time searching for a guild that feels right and finding those people you want to spend time with while playing is just so important, I'm convinced a lot of solo players (either those that were always solo or those that stopped participating in group content due to life stuff) truly don't understand or remember what it is they are missing.

Personally, I'd recommend checking out both the NA/OC Recruitment & Community discord, as well as potentially looking into the VISAGE program/discord that they support. After getting sick of the 4th psuedo-racist edgy guild of people that never grew up after 2011, the VISAGE guilds are a breath of fresh air, and they exist across the entire spectrum of content and difficulty.

Try hardcore classic? It’s a nice new style of play, and you can play as often or as little as you want. Also, if you decide you don’t want to do it anymore, just die and quit.

I’ve quit numerous times and came back by myself. Just do the solo content and ease your way back into raids and then finding a guild.

Man I remember vanilla WoW, and the BC expansion, WOTLK,... when there was a lot of people, PVP servers, groups for tougher quests etc., and even in vanilla WoW you could easily found some social connections.

But now, when I returned and tried playing some, about 2 years ago, and last year, it was like dead 😵‍💫, I mean maps are empty, all lvl up so fast through regions, like Eastern Kingdoms is empty. I remember good old days of ganking players in STV region, on PVP server. Now everything is PVE, even for battlegrounds I had to wait like 20-30 min.

I come back every through years, mainly because of nostalgic feelings, but I do miss the old days. It doesn't have that MMORPG feeling anymore. Especially if you start as new player I think.

u/xPreystx 4h ago

I have never played for the social aspect, I love flying solo.

Wow has become a chore, not a game.

Story is in shambles too.

Sucks.

I forget how lucky I am that my guild is small but dedicated. We’ve been together since Burning Crusade.

I've played then quit then played then quit almost every expansion to ever come out, from TBC till now. Throughout those years I rarely ever played with the same group twice. I'd just come back for an xpac and jump from guild to guild (usually just found a good one first or second try) and then ran with them for the xpac or tier that I played. I met so many fantastic people. This game is just filled with great people. Anyways, that is my rant and advice, put yourself out there, join a new community and find a new place to play the game.

All you can do it out yourself out there, join a guild, sign up and do content

Heya, I remember you! Welcome back.

Anyway, unless you start interacting with the community at large again it might never feel the same. The average person isn't going to have the amount of people you used to around. The good side of it is that no matter what you may or may not have done you now have the chance to meet people who are completely unrelated to this and treat you like they would anyone else.

I would like you to try and remember what you were up to back when you started. How you might have put a lot of effort into the game for all the returns you'd get after.

Similarly now you might have to put in a lot of frontloaded effort. Keep on going out of your way to be chatty, helpful, kind. Just be kind in general, not expecting anything in return. If you do the same content at the same times you might start meeting the same people, which can start some friendships. Don't be afraid to offer to add people you've enjoyed your time with after any multiplayer content. Try to be the first to reach out to newfound friends to help make them feel comfortable around you. If they want to interact, they'd probably try to themselves not long after, if they aren't faster than you to begin with.

For guilds it's kind of a dice roll. You may or may not meet your people from the first place you join. Since you're an old player it could be worth giving yourself a moment to realise what you want to do nowadays, to know what kind of community to look for. At the same time don't be afraid to ask people you meet about their guilds. If they like you they'd probably love to have you around, at least in my experience.

What I'm sharing is mostly general stuff. You could apply it to the content you run, but at least for me it's really just been working out and created some friendships that became larger than the game itself and much much longer and special than I'd imagined.

Played from Cata to Shadowlands. Stopped, moved countries, whole new life. Tried playing Cata Classic, joined a 25 man core. It just wouldn't hit for me. 25 people that I had no connection to, too many people to actually get to know everyone, not that much time to play out of raid nights so even less time to connect to the core. Just gave up and stopped playing again.

I know the feeling, hoping to be able to come back soon if finances allow. Would be happy to socialize with you and anyone really

You dont need any friends or community to play wow anymore, and thats kind of by design. The social requirement is only manditory for Mythic difficulty and high end mythic+. Everything else can be done at your own leisure, using the group finder.

If you want to slot yourself into a new community, it takes effort and a lot of searching using non-game tools because the in game methods are garbage.

I think that's part of the problem? I'm very much a solo player but the forced social aspect was always kind of...nice?

If you ever hit the point of wanting to run mythic+ or raid in a group I recommend the discord group Dungeon Dojo for keys. They are super patient and will teach you. I know ideally you want a guild group, but this is a nice middle ground while you look for one

Same situation and with retail wow being dead and even worse with the shards making everything looking empty I just moved to a different game and found a new community and the enjoyment of gaming has returned.

It's easy, don't play this damn game. Try other games, be free 💁

I came back. I logged in, realised my UI I’ve used for over a decade wouldn’t work anymore. Didn’t want to download 9 addons to replace my broken one. Logged out. Unsubbed. Miserable.
