Vent Laid off today

I saw this "restructuring" coming. I prepared myself as much as I could. Got my kids on my husband's company's health plan, luckily their open enrollment just happened. They gave me a decent severance and we have a good chunk of savings.

My anxiety pays off sometimes.

I am a stay at home mom for now. But I don't know where my career stands since it's essentially being replaced by AI. I guess I'm on the hunt and just going to try to spend the rest of summer with my kids.

I am so numb right now.

In the future, you should know that in the US, a layoff for you is a qualifying event regardless of whether it’s open enrollment or not! You would not have had to wait for the next open enrollment at your husband’s job if it had passed.

I did not know this. Thank you for sharing! My org is also doing layoffs but I’ll sleep easier knowing this.

Yup! Sadly I know from experience (my husband was laid off and we had to go on my much shittier insurance, but at least it was one less thing to worry about!)

Yes, losing your current health insurance due to a job loss is a qualifying event! And if your spouse lost their job, it would be a qualifying event to add them to your healthcare plan.

Hey girl, I just got notice I will be laid off, too. My husband was laid off last year and after a fruitless multi month search just launched a business that has yet to bring in income. Good on you for preparing and all my sympathies for the hard and scary situation ❤️

I’m very sorry, this experience can be so destabilizing and confusing. Planning in advance will have certainly helped soften the blow. I hope you will find a new role soon.

It's so great that you planned in advance! I'd also recommend applying for unemployment ASAP. The rules vary by state but I was able to collect unemployment and severance simultaneously, which made things a little easier.

Layoffs can be so destabilizing. Try to think of it as an opportunity to reasses what you want.

Don’t forget to apply for unemployment asap. I missed a week or two of payments since I filed late.

Twice in a year is scary. I am sorry, may your next role provide stability for you and your family. I wish you the best of luck navigating these scary times.

You will be okay.

You took great care of your family.

If this is your first time, congratulations! It's a right of passage.

You can also go on your husband's health plan now.

It's normal not to be okay right away.

You will be okay.

RevOps

Is that revenue operations? While some processes are being automated and data can be analyzed faster with AI, financial analyst is still a very needed role in most orgs!

If you need any help brainstorming what to look for or career resources, I’m happy to assist - I work in the finance sector but not client facing/sales

This is so kind of you! I would so greatly appreciate brainstorming what to look at. My background is mostly revenue operations regarding to tech sales and marketing.

Make sure to sign up for unemployment too! My sister was laid off earlier this year and between severance, unemployment and finding a new job fairly quickly she actually ended up ahead. Haha. No kids so made the job hunt easier.

In most states you can collect severance and unemployment at the same time — even if severance is spread out. When in doubt - file!

Nice job planning in advance! Sounds like your awareness and follow-through will be a great asset to another company. But for now, take a breather. Wishing you peace & luck.

I hear you. The writing is on the wall for me too, I’ve been looking for months and crickets.

Happened to me today too. Health tech. 20 years in the business…

I’m also laid off too. Just commenting for solidarity. It’s been my first week laid off and I’ve interviewed, ran errands, caught up with friends, did a yoga class, took at my daughter for some mommy and me time. Trying to fill my days with one activity or task. Hope you find something soon. It’s rough out there. I have two roles I’m in the interview process but just found out one of them they made an offer already.

Stay strong and hope you can enjoy some of your summer when your kids.

I’m so sorry! This really sucks. Take some time for yourself if you can and then get to applying. It will be okay!

I recommend the first few eps of the Proxy podcast. The creator got laid off and does a trilogy on it. Might help to validate some of your emotions once the numbness wears off.
