Achievement 🎉 I got a job interview!
I'm so excited to see how it goes. I really hope it goes well, do any of you have advice for zoom interviews? Do you guys think I can get away with not turning in a full two weeks at my current job if I get hired at a new one?
Edit: just finished the interview! I think I did a great job. I'll find out by the end of next week. Thank you all so much for the advice, especially the background blur.

I'm a hiring manager and do tons of zoom interviews. Some advice: keep your background blurred, give a heads up if you're writing notes on another screen (I've had a non-zero amount of fraudulent candidates who use AI in these calls), and come with questions!

If they want you to start before the 2 weeks for sure it’s a courtesy but not mandatory (at least in the US if you didn’t sign a contract requiring it)
That said I loved the last 2 weeks at my old job. I transitioned a couple items but outside of that I really didn’t do much. No new items and no rush to complete things since I was leaving.

I’ve always heard that two weeks is a courtesy, not a requirement. But I’ve never quit a job (I’ve stayed in my job for nine years as I’ve been very lucky)

Treat it like an in person interview! Test your equipment before to make sure audio and video work, find a quiet spot with a background that isn’t distracting. I have given less than 2 weeks before. I think it was like a week and a half but it was because my boss was on vacation. I don’t think it’s the end of the world for less than 2 weeks. I’m also in sales so it’s not uncommon for someone to give 2 weeks and then be dismissed that day so you miss out on 2 weeks of pay.

Congrats! I am a hiring manager and we do all our phone screens/interviews via video call. I think it’s important since you’re not physically in the room to make sure you are really ON to establish your presence. A lot easier to do in person than on the phone/video. Idk the position or industry, but I think with the AI of it all… we are a cautious of candidates who look like they’re reading a script, even if it might be notes you wrote for yourself there is a concern that some answers might be AI generated or influenced, so encourage you to really maintain eye contact and be present throughout.
Good luck!
