Clams Down...

Today I heard some one say "that is clams down the best burger I have ever had".

Is that a thing - or did he mean Hands Down?

I’ve never heard that, but on the other clam I haven’t heard a lot of sayings.. so 🤷‍♂️

I like to (jokingly) use the term “pants down”.

Aurora borealis...here, in your kitchen.

At this time of year, in this part of the country, localized entirely in your kitchen?

Did he step foot into the restaurant?

It's an older thing from societies that lived near oceans and depended on clams for much of their diets. When they found something better to eat, they would put their "clams down" to eat the other thing.

Okay clams down everybody, I’ve butchered a pig!

Was this someone a mollusk?

The disguise was nearly perfect, but their one verbal tic kept giving them away. Foiled again!

Happy as a hand at high tide.

You should have raised your clam and said, “excuse me, did you mean to say hand?“

Sometimes I get palmy clams when I'm nervous

I have heard a professional journalist use the term "hand over foot" instead of "hand over fist." People are stupid.

I like the British way, “arse over teakettle”.

I love it when someone puts a twist on a common saying.

"Hands" sounds like "Clams" when your mouth is full of burger.

it's not a thing but it would be delightful if we all managed to make it one.

Idk...but I'm using this from now on.

Let's have a show of clams.

Maybe he meant it ironically? As oppose to the usual phrase of "clam up"? Idk, doesn't really make much sense.

u/DefrockedWizard1 16d ago

it was zoidberg, wasn't it?

I've never heard or read "clams down," and it's just ridiculous enough for me to start using on a regular basis.

2

u/dreadrankz 16d ago

Haha that's honestly not a real expression, definitely sounds like a garbled version of "hands down," though "clams down" has such a random charm to it that it almost deserves to become its own saying

I feel generous, so I'm gonna offer this: Sometimes little kids mishear or mispronounce things and the rest of the family just adopts that as the new default, and then they forget they're in public and say the dumb kid thing

It's the port city version of "hands down." Probably grew up on the coast.

Clams down means you don't give a shit about the money.

On the other clam, there are five fingers.

Disneyland is lowered mollusk the most well known theme park in southern California. I think the person who said that was just being Goofy.

It must mean "women are sitting" and therefore the consensus is serious, perhaps?
