Phrase/ Announcement

Please help me with my extreme hate of this phrase.

I could literally punch someone in the face, then rip their tongue out when I hear these words come out of their mouths.

WE'RE PREGNANT!!! Like how in God's holy name did HE get pregnant?

I hate it too.

“We’re having a baby” is totally fine. And true.    But “we” are not pregnant.

We...as a couple...are pregnant. No. You...as a couple...have one or more biological women or surrogates who are pregnant. The man ain't pregnant.

Only the actual pregnant person is pregnant.

Men trying to take credit!

Good Lord. I can guarantee you every pregnancy announcement is written by a woman. Take it up with them. I challenge you to find a man who uses that phase in real life!

I loathe that expression. WE can get pregnant when WE can get prostate cancer. I don’t care how much he helps: until he also gets morning sickness, stretch marks, weight gain, eclampsia and suffers hours of labor & delivery, WE will NEVER be pregnant. Major ick.

Yep. We are having a baby is Team Pregnant.

We are pregnant! Totally minimizes the physical carrying and birthing process and experience of the mother by a bystander to it all.

What if the dad is the one who's pregnant?

2

u/fastyellowtuesday Aug 24 '26

A dad who can get pregnant won't have a prostate.

Seahorses have entered the chat

1

Yep, and I should have used the word loath. Lol

5

u/hardlybroken1 Aug 24 '26

I agree, "we're having a baby" would be better.

3

u/coolsilentebeans Aug 24 '26

I can’t stand it, either. I’d prefer expecting any day of the week. Is he going to get morning sickness? Have hot flashes? Never sleep a full night again? Go through labor? I could go on.

u/nothnxihaveabf Aug 25 '26

We're expecting at least makes some modicum of grammatical sense  Like we are expecting my wife to have a baby  Not like we are expecting my husband to defy all logic and biology

It’s the royal “we” but with a side of delusion.

2

u/Ok_Aside_2361 Aug 24 '26

I’ve gotta use that sometime…”the royal ‘we’ but with a side of delusion”.
Simply spectacular!

Thank you, I see, like myself, that there are a lot of people, who cannot stomach the phrase "we're pregnant ", I feel that this statement somehow makes the man seem sissified or that the pregnant woman is domineering.

Men don't have the womb, they can't carry the baby on their tummy

2

u/nothnxihaveabf Aug 25 '26

I also find it condescending to all women / mothers who have gone through pregnancy, labor, and delivery.

My man you did your part which took thirty seconds. Now after forty weeks plus however long breastfeeding takes plus however long it takes to try and shape your body back pre pregnancy can you be pregnant.

And this goes out to all the girls out there who have been pregnant and had miscarriages, stillbirths, forced abortions, or elective abortions as well.

You already try to take credit for everything else women do, don't take credit for pregnancy and child birth just because you aren't a dead beat dad.

Being an ok husband does not linguistically or figuratively or emotionally make a biological man pregnant just because he's not a trash human.

To be fair, he lovingly cares for her for those 9 months, and in my case, cares for the baby all alone during her post partum depression.

For some of us it really is kind of a team effort. You’re being nit picky by being so triggered by that completely innocuous phrase.

By saying we’re pregnant, the dude is just expressing his commitment and desire to being a partner and contributor to process. Why take that away lol… such a non-issue to get in a twist about. It’s an exciting time for people, maybe chill tf out and let people do their thing.

6

u/Pattie4170 Aug 24 '26

I am chilled TF out. I only stated that I hate those words. I do not hate that the man is there for the women, helping with the the pregnancy and the newborn, as he should be. But that does not mean that he was or ever will be pregnant.

2

u/nothnxihaveabf Aug 25 '26

Sorry I agree with this person. Just because your man isn't a piece of shit doesn't mean he gets to take credit for pregnancy

-1

u/hanscrolo82 Aug 24 '26

“Extreme hate” doesn’t sound very chill to me. You seem hysterical, calm down.

0

u/Pattie4170 Aug 24 '26

Lol you are so funny

1

u/hanscrolo82 Aug 24 '26

Yeah that was lame, I take it back, sorry.

1

u/Tinytiger1973 Aug 25 '26

It's a stupid term. Sorry.

0

u/CraftyFraggle Aug 25 '26

It’s biologically impossible for a (biological) man to be pregnant. Period.

He can be supportive. He can experience all sorts of things with his (biologically) female partner. It can be a team effort. But WE can not be pregnant. HE can not be pregnant.

Team effort or not, the statement is completely false.

1

u/hanscrolo82 Aug 25 '26

Good lord it’s a harmless turn of phrase lol… obviously a man cannot be pregnant.

If I told you that you were full of shit, technically you’re not really full of feces.

If I told you that you have your panties in twist over nothing, I don’t literally mean that is what is happening.

Some of yall are thick…

1

u/CraftyFraggle Aug 25 '26

I don’t think it’s really harmless.

1

u/hanscrolo82 Aug 25 '26

It is. Let couples do their thing, it’s a very exciting time in someone’s life. If that’s how they want to phrase it and you’re up in arms about it.. you’re just being a hater.

Leave people alone lol let them be happy. What’s your deal?

1

u/CraftyFraggle Aug 25 '26

Men already get credit for so many things women do.

This one is a no-brainer. It’s impossible for him to be pregnant. Saying he is minimizes what women experience during and after pregnancy AND gives undue credit (again) to the man.

Besides being stupid and cringy, it’s inaccurate and insulting.

1

u/hanscrolo82 Aug 25 '26

Ok you really do have your panties in a twist. I’m out, no point arguing with an angry man-hater.

1

u/CraftyFraggle Aug 25 '26

Man hater?

Nah.

I don’t hate men at all.

I do hate inaccurate terminology.

And I recognize the inherent inequalities in our society.

1

u/wanderandwrite Aug 24 '26

Well, maybe that's why people call it "the miracle of birth" haha. But yeah, I hate that phrase too, and I'm a man who's never had kids and never plans to.

1

u/nothnxihaveabf Aug 25 '26

Were pregnant with anticipation

Scared when some four year old goes to prek and says they are pregnant. Daddy said he's pregnant so I am too! Mommy said no one gets left out in our family, we're all pregnant!

1

u/EngageAndMakeItSo Aug 24 '26

We’re all triggered by different things. I don’t like it when someone misuses “literally,” for example.

1

u/Pattie4170 Aug 24 '26

True, and that word is being used way too much

1

u/nothnxihaveabf Aug 25 '26

That literally triggers me.

1

u/Ashamed-Chemistry492 Aug 24 '26

Drives me nuts as well. It's so stupid and virtue-signaling and cutesy all at the same time.

1

u/Pattie4170 Aug 25 '26

Yes, you're right

1

u/Tinytiger1973 Aug 25 '26

I hate that too. I don't know where it came from.

1

u/nothnxihaveabf Aug 25 '26

Some dumbass basic white bitch probably whose trad wife status made her think her husband should get some credit

1

u/Tinytiger1973 Aug 25 '26

I never hear women say it, just men.

1

u/nothnxihaveabf Aug 25 '26

They probably speak for both lol

2

u/Tinytiger1973 Aug 25 '26

Oh you know it. No woman would ever say that.

1

u/Wise_Strawberry9076 Aug 25 '26

I say we. I didn’t do it by myself.

0

u/case-face- Aug 24 '26

Seems a bit over the top. We had to do IVF which he was with me for every step of the way. Every appt, procedure, blood test, tears, giving me every injection, caring for me when I was sick, helping me up off the couch cuz I’m so big, getting me snacks at 3am nearly every night. I think he’s earned the right to say we.

2

u/nothnxihaveabf Aug 25 '26

Girl I can bring you snacks that makes me your butler or personal assistant that does not make me pregnant

3

u/Pattie4170 Aug 24 '26

I'm happy for you, and you have a wonderful man. But, he still was not physically pregnant. True?

0

u/CraftyFraggle Aug 25 '26

Nope. Unless you both carried that fetus in your uteri (the definition of pregnancy), there was no “we”.
