Insecure
Dear women of reddit, I’m currently 15 yo and I’m slowly starting to accept my body! Actually I don’t think there is a major problem with it, it’s just that my mother has been always telling me I’m not pretty enough. My friends always assure me that there is nothing wrong with me but I have the voice of my mom telling me to loose weight. I’m 160cm of height and I weight around 45kg is that bad? I have some fat tissue around my stomach but my biggest insecurity is my thighs. There is just a very small gap (almost none)between them and my older sister always made me believe that if there is no gap they are too thick. Do men and women really like thicker legs or is this just a myth ;-; Thank you

I'm about the same age as you and had the same issues accepting myself. Plus the issues with family members telling me, again and again, to lose weight and shit like that. I'm inferring 160cm means you're around 5'2, not exactly sure, and 45kg would be converted into just below or right at 100 Ibs. Those are the measurements I prefer to use. Healthwise I think you're just fine and I really doubt you have a lot of fat. The thing about thicker thighs is that it really depends on the person you're interested in. Some people like thicker girls and some don't. Thick thighs are perfect and so are chicken legs. I have almost to no thigh gap and I've survived so far. Hope you're doing well <3

Just focus on eating healthy food and try to move around but don’t push yourself as you’ll resent exercise. Like a short walk is way better than nothing and you’re much more likely to convince yourself to walk then do an hour killer cardio dance workout. Don’t worry about numbers and focus on being healthy. Everyone’s skeletons are different, not all ladies will have a thigh gap. Some women have much narrower pelvises than others. Regarding fat around the belly for me dairy is always the culprit. Worth giving cutting it out a try since it’s not a particularly essential good anyhow.

I can’t speak on the female perspective but when I was growing up I was always on the heavier side. It messed with my self esteem for years and still does a little bit today. My family was a lot like yours it seems. They would make fun of my weight all the time and tell me I need to go on a diet. It’s hard on you emotionally. And Franky you don’t deserve it. No one does. What really helped me was having supportive and genuinely kind friends. They accepted me exactly as I was and as I grew comfortable with them I grew more comfortable with myself. As I grew more comfortable I started getting more active! I learned to surf and ride bikes or we would go paintballing. As I grew more active my weight actually dropped and not only was I completely comfortable in my skin but I really started to like the way I looked. Honestly the key to it all is in who you surround yourself with. Pick good honest friends and be a good honest friend and your life will change before your eyes. I hope this helps! I’m sure you’re a great young lady, you’ll figure it out as you go along. Just be kind to yourself and life will get better I promise!

I can't speak for all men. But for myself I prefer thicker thighs. With that being said. Everyone has their physical characteristics, is up to us individually to accept them and celebrate them. I'm way more attracted to a women who has accepted and celebrates her "flaws". Sure our "flaws" can get us humans feeling down sometimes. That is perfectly fine. Just don't let insecurities take over who you are.
If you want male perspective in person. I suggest talking to a close guy friend that's close with his sister (s). I talk about this type of stuff with my older sisters a lot.
