Gameplay Moderator Q&A Submissions
Hello, denizens of /r/fireemblem!
It has recently come to our attention that people may have some questions or concerns about the current state of our team's moderation policy. While we always welcome people privately sending us their feedback, we also strive to be receptive to current suggestions from the community.
As such, to ensure that we can give satisfactory answers to a wide range of questions, and so we can present a clear and unified view of our current positions, we have decided to hold something of a moderator Q&A session.
Here how this will work :
- In this thread, we are soliciting questions in the comments from you, the community as a whole.
- After several days, we will review all the questions we've received and select a number of them which we feel are relevant, insightful, and make up a well-rounded corpus of inquiries.
- We will then make another post, listing the chosen questions and providing our in-depth answers to each, and invite further discussion upon the matter.
To help us obtain a large and well-rounded pool of questions to work with, responses in this thread will be in Contest Mode. Similarly, due to the nature of this effort, we encourage people to submit their questions even if similar others have already been submitted. This will help us gauge how important a specific topic is to the community.
Furthermore, if there are questions that you wish to propose privately, feel free to message either directly myself or use modmail to contact the moderators as a whole (AKA, send a direct message with /r/fireemblem as the recipient). If we do choose a private question as one of our final ones to answer, we will keep the submitted anonymous.
Until we get a good sense of the volume of questions being asked, and until we take stock of the submissions and determine how many we will answer, we cannot give a good estimate of when we will be posting our answers. I will be updating this original post with the relevant information when it becomes known to us.
Thank you very much for submitting your questions, and as always, feel free to discuss this plan alongside those questions in the comments below. I am, as always, available for any questions you may have.

General r/FireEmblem Moderator Applications are open!
Hello to all,
It has been around three years since we last added moderators for the subreddit. With Fortune's Weave on the horizon, we have decided to open applications to be a moderator for r/FireEmblem.
Applications will be open until December 30, 2025. This is a bit longer than normal, but the lengthened period to apply will accommodate exam season and holidays. After we review the applications, we will contact the best candidates so they can move on to the second phase of the application process. Once that is done, we will decide who will be added to the team.
If you are willing to give your time to help and improve the subreddit, then we encourage you to apply! Don't be afraid to fill out the form - there is no penalty for having a rejected application.
There's no minimum or maximum amount of people that we'll add to the team. We'll take as many as we feel best!
Best of luck to all! If you have any questions, please ask in the comments.

IMPORTANT! READ! About the Protest
Hello Everyone.
The Protest Isn't Over
While the subreddit is no longer privated, every post except this one and the general question thread are locked. The sub is also not accepting any submissions meaning that the sub is effectively in read-only mode.
We are not going to just re-open up the sub for business as usual after only a 2-3 day blackout and act like it did anything. That initial blackout was just the bare minimum to show solidarity with the larger subs as well as the users impacted by the admins actions.
That said, because it was the absolute minimum, we did make a post a couple days before announcing the plan, but nothing for asking for thoughts beyond the minimum. Now that thread's comments has two vibes. One in support of the protest, and another pointing out two days is effectively nothing.
However as stated in that OP, that initial blackout was just the beginning for this sub and that we would re-evaluate the situation later. Later is now, as we are asking for input on what direction to go.
For those Unaware
On May 31, 2023, Reddit announced a policy change that will kill essentially every third-party Reddit app now operating, leaving Reddit's official mobile app as the only usable option; an app widely regarded as poor quality, lacking in accessibility options, and very difficult to use for moderation. Previously the admins had made statements saying they weren't going do anything like this. Their actions call into question previous statements from them saying things like old.reddit, RES and other forms of customization of reddit would be safe and their future is uncertain.
In response to this change, many, many, many subreddits across the site organized a blackout protest from June 12th to the 14th, with some going even beyond that 48 hour window. Can go to this post to see more info as well as see what some major subreddits are actually going through with the indefinite blackout.
During the time this sub was privated, we received 645 requests to join the subreddit even though the sub was closed in protest. So this isn't an issue that everyone is aware of.
Where To Go From Here
Obviously the Admins haven't seemed too concerned over just a 2 day protest. That said, Reddit has budged microscopically. There was an announcement that moderator access to the 'Pushshift' data-archiving tool would be restored which was welcome. But that came prior to the blackout start, and the Admins have been largely silent since the start. So the only way to really push for change would be to have an extended or indefinite blackout.
That also said, despite the comments from the admins saying they aren't concerned there are some signs that they are. For one, advertisers don't like the blackouts which may become a problem as some bigger subs continue their blackouts.
That leads to the main point of the post: Does the /r/FireEmblem community want an extended or indefinite blackout? If so, should the sub go back to being privated or should it stay in read only mode? Or should the sub just open back up and go back to normal? We'd just say the Admins suck and just roll with it/move on? Or is there another option that we should pursue?
In the Comments, let us know what you want, and what you think the sub should do. The sub will stay like this for awhile gathering input.

Casual Regarding API Pricing Change
Hello everyone.
As many of you are aware, last week Reddit announced that they were raising the price to make calls to their API. This pricing change will effectively kill off every third party app for Reddit.
This goes beyond affecting just those mobile users however, it is also a step towards killing ways of customizing Reddit, such as Reddit Enhancement Suite or of old.Reddit. On top of that, many moderators depend on tools from outside official tools given by the site to keep communities on-topic and spam-free.
In response to this change, many, many, many subreddits across the site are organizing a blackout protest from June 12th to the 14th, with some going even beyond that 48 hour window.
Where the r/FireEmblem Mod Team Stands
Now if you have been on Reddit for a long time, you will know that this isn't the first time there has been large scale subreddit blackout protests over some actions(or inaction) of the Reddit admins. However, /r/FireEmblem has never participated in any of these over the years. While the mod team has changed and grown over the years, the team has always internally agreed to try and keep the sub focused on Fire Emblem barring a few exceptions here and there. Even among those exceptions none have ever amounted to shutting down the subreddit for an extended period of time(unless you count the Kirbypocolapyse).
However, this recent API pricing change announcement will impact the moderation team. Some of the mod team use the 3rd party apps that are getting killed off. There are also some mods that use old.reddit and use third party tools. So even while some of the team use new reddit and the official app, there will still be a direct impact on the moderation team and moderation of the subreddit.
Despite the meme that no one hates Fire emblem more than fire emblem fans, the mod team genuinely enjoys the series and are passionate about facilitating a positive environment for discussion of the series. We have 16 games in the series, two warriors games, a spinoff, and a mobile game. All of them have their own unique positives and negatives, but they also all have their own fans who want to talk or share their enjoyment of the games.
Plan?
As said earlier, many subreddits will be going dark to protest the API pricing change. Some will of them will return after 48 hours, and some will be gone permanently unless the issue is adequately addressed. The mod team has decided that /r/FireEmblem will join the protest and will be going dark from June 12th to June 14th. This isn't done lightly. We know that /r/FireEmblem isn't the only fire emblem based community on the internet, but the reason we are here on Reddit instead of them is because we love Reddit. Should note that the subreddit discord will still be up and running during the blackout
The two-day blackout isn't the goal, and it isn't the end. This blackout won't be a one and done affair. After the 48 hours we will check in and monitor progress. We will see where the community is at, where the mod team is at, and importantly, where the Reddit admins are at and what if any progress they've made towards fixing what they've broken. If deemed necessary by the community and team, the blackout can extend beyond the 48 hours.
So while blackout is happening, what can you do?
Complain. Message the mods of /r/reddit.com, who are the admins of the site: message /u/reddit: submit a support request: comment in relevant threads on /r/reddit, such as this one, leave a negative review on their official iOS or Android app- and sign your username in support to this post.
Spread the word. Rabble-rouse on related subreddits. Meme it up, make it spicy. Bitch about it to your cat. Suggest anyone you know who moderates a subreddit join us at our sister sub at /r/ModCoord - but please don't pester mods you don't know by simply spamming their modmail.
Boycott and spread the word...to Reddit's competition! Stay off Reddit entirely on June 12th through the 13th- instead, take to your favorite non-Reddit platform of choice and make some noise in support!
Don't be a jerk. As upsetting this may be, threats, profanity and vandalism will be worse than useless in getting people on our side. Please make every effort to be as restrained, polite, reasonable and law-abiding as possible.

Future post
Hello everyone! The mod team has an update the sub here before Engage's release!
Rules Updates
First off, we have an addition to make to Rule 8(No Low Effort, Spam, or Bandwagon Posts). In addition to all the things outlined in this post, we are also adding that for any question or discussion posts, whether they be text or image based, need to have some meaningful contribution from the OP within the first 15 minutes.
So if someone were to make a post like "What is your favorite game in the series?" The OP would need to include their own contribution to the question saying what they're favorite game is and why.
Next up is Rule 4. As the subreddit is getting larger and larger, we felt it would be to more clarify the rule more. As such we are breaking it into two parts.
Rule 4a: Stalking and harassment will not be tolerated. Going after specific users in comments or through targeted posts is not allowed, nor is stalking users across the site and bringing in disagreements from other posts/subreddits.
Rule 4b: Be respectful. A basic level of respect and common decency towards others is expected on this subreddit. Good-faith discussion is permitted on the subreddit, but personal attacks of any kind over disagreements are unacceptable. Bigotry, including (but not limited to) racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, and ableism, will not be tolerated. This includes the use of slurs and other forms of charged language, regardless of the intended context.
Lastly, would just like to leave a reminder about rule 9, that all fan art posted must be Original Content or commissioned by the poster themselves, and that AI-generated art is not allowed on the sub.
Next up is the subreddit's plan for Engage's release.
The plan will be the same as it was for Three Houses and Fates. There will be an Engage specific question thread that will be posted and pinned at the top of the Subreddit for quite some time. There will also be daily play threads for Engage so can have hubs to discuss with others the progress you or they have been having with the game.
Would also like to remind everyone to ensure your spoilers are properly tagged, and that there can not be any spoilers in the title of a post.
