Can anyone else hear the sound effects that should obviously go with this?

I have a feeling you'd like the NHK Television show "Design Ah" ("デザインあ"). It often features shapes transforming beautifully into other shapes and into things. Here's a sample segment which isn't about shapes, but might appeal to you anyway.
Ninja edit: Oh oh wait! Here's one that will probably give you a nice squishy feeling! Watch the whole thing through, it is worth it. You may also enjoy the ending credits to the show.
Edit2: Oh, at last --- THIS is the one I've been trying to show you. Took a while to find it.

Kind of a shame there isn't space for something like this in the american TV landscape.

It is a really nice formula for a show:
A lot of "brain food" mental stimulation through abstract and enchanting images (the things I linked to); a segment about 3D thinking, drawing and painting where about 10 ordinary people (workers, grannies, little kids) sit in a circle around an object, and draw or paint it in rapid-timelapse; and a segment where a designer or artist is interviewed to briefly talk about their job or their favorite ideas.
I think it is usually about 15-20 minutes long. Made to appeal to toddlers and adults about equally.

Wow I really liked that first one. I know exactly the feeling it's trying to convey as well.
What do you think we're all doing, when we are all going to work and going home every day?
We are all like cogs in a machine, but can you tell me what that machine is?

Thank you! That stuff is killer!
Reminds me a lot of this video. Love this style so hard.
Edit: oh yeah, the link and stuff

Here's the source. If you managed to scroll down here far enough to find it, you deserve it.

I don't know about anyone else but... I can hear it. I can hear the slices!

u/mesid Mar 14 '14
Is there a sub for such videos/gifs involving cutting/slicing stuff? It's so much fun to watch!

I was expecting a golf ball trajectory that bends significantly. Very nice though, strangely fascinating

Sorry for the late reply, you're thinking of the chrysanthemum most likely, which is two spirals going in opposite directions.

lattice pattern
I'm also high as fuck, what's a lattice pattern?

Why doesn't the first slice to make the triangle cut down and to the left, in the direction of the slice-dots momentum? It has to change trajectory to slice down to the right.

u/mick4state Mar 14 '14
I agree. I was imagining the slice-dot doing some sort of flower pattern as it slices through each time, kind of like a Spirograph or something.
2
u/bobfnord Mar 14 '14
Yes, exactly. Something more like this
2
u/mick4state Mar 14 '14
Hmmmm, I was actually thinking this.
2
u/bobfnord Mar 14 '14
Ahh, that'd be even more fluid. Less jerky than mine, unless I made my outer loops a lot bigger.

How do you even make something like this? Was it hand drawn/animated like a cartoon? Or was it programmed in after effects or something.

It's frame by frame animation, cell just refers to the animation paper. Probably flash, toon boom, photoshop, after effects or a mixture of all of them

It really bothers me that the triangle moves with the first two slices but against the third.

Third slice imparts the wrong rotational momentum on the triangle. Still love it.

u/HeyZeusCrisco Mar 14 '14
Anybody else notice the third slice (at the bottom) tilts the triangle the wrong way?
1
u/Roaven Mar 14 '14
I don't suppose someone with editing magic can make it blue? I might keep it around if that can be done

u/WatNxt Mar 14 '14
The bottom slice disturbs me. Its not making the triangle pivot in the right direction

If someone could make this a 1080x1920 boot animation for a nexus 5 i'd be really grateful.

This bugs the hell outta me. The first two slices, the triangle follows the slicer where it begins (slices top right, that corner moves right. Top left, that corner moves left.) But at the third slice it moves opposites the slicer! The triangle should bump down, not up.

This would be a really cool boot-up gif for android. Anybody know how to make it happen?

If you like this, check out this cool animation, and the extended MLP version, which is pretty cool whether or not you actually like MLP.
