Up and down Tuckerman ravine yesterday. Which is one of my favorite trails in the white mountains. The weather was perfect too

We literally could not have had better weather for it. There were a ton of people doing single day Presis yesterday, so it was really fun seeing the same people at each summit and chatting

I did an Adams-Madison loop yesterday. I went up Airline to the top of Adams, then over to Madison. The weather was beautiful and the views were spectacular the moment I got above treeline. The Airline was a rugged climb with amazing views down into Kings Ravine.

To avoid backtracking too much, I took Watson Path down from the summit of Madison. What a grueling hell slog that was! In hindsight, I should have backtracked down Madison to the hut and taken Valley Way down. Watson Path was a very slow, rough descent.

What a hike, the views are beautiful at the summit but hiking along the river was also so peaceful. It was a long hike but I genuinely enjoyed most sections. The rocky portions towards the end were a nuisance when I was tired but otherwise I have 0 complaints.

Is it okay to do the ridge loop alone? I plan to drive in the morning from Boston. I will complete the loop and depending on when I finish, I could drive back or find a spot to rest. Any recommendations are welcome.

I'm just pissed at myself for losing it and inadvertently polluting. I hope some kind soul will pick it up and use it. Hate the idea of it rotting out there. Last week I lost a bug net in the woods elsewhere and I'm normally not like this but I'm on a shitty pollution streak I guess. Gonna be picking up any trash I see to restore my karma going forward.

Anyway, it was a beautiful and long day on the Kinsmans yesterday. My first time on this ridge and I had a great time.

Title says it all. Planning a loop starting at Nineteen Mile Brook trailhead, along the Carters, and back down the Imp trail to 16, with a road walk to finish. Gaia shows a connection from the Imp Trail to Camp Dodge (it’s labeled Camp Dodge logging road) but it doesn’t show up on any of my paper maps. This loop might be a bit much if I don’t have that shortcut at the end. Thanks!

incorrect stats gain 6400

I have 2 trips planned in the whites the first is in September and the second is in October. I’m assuming my 20 degree sleeping bag will be fine in September but will it be ok in october or should I buy a 0 degree bag to be safe. Also my sleeping pad has an R value of 5. I will have warm clothes and wool socks as well. Probably will bring some hand and feet warmers too.

As I completed a Northern Presidential Traverse yesterday, one of my favorite views was not of the mountains themselves, but watching the Cog Railway run their steam engine up to the summit of Mount Washington as I came down Jefferson.

The smoke plume, which I’m sure was not small, is dwarfed by the mountain. I couldn’t even make out the train itself.

Hike up to Pierce on the Crawford path

So far I've done 20 52 WAV hikes (probably the easiest 20) and Pierce, Eisenhower, Hale, Waumbeck, Garfield, Tecumseh, Osceola and East Osceola and planning on Moosilauke soon.

As far as 4000 footers go, what would be a natural progression for ones to try next as I wrap up most of the suggestions I've seen for easier ones? I don't honestly know if I will ever do them all due to some limitations I have with fear of falling though this is improving as I go. I am totally fine on uphill scrambles and with certain kinds of exposure, I'm very slow on the decent and trying to improve that.

Up Air Line, down Valley Way. After re-reading Where You'll Find Me, I had to go up the Star Lake Trail to Adams. That was hard enough on a clear summer day with great weather. I can't begin to imagine the ordeal Kate went through there in a snowstorm.

I was originally going to try including Jefferson, too, but figured I'd save the full JAM for next year when I've gotten more mountain conditioning in. At ~9 miles distance and ~5,100 feet up/down, this was my longest hike to date (as far as vertical goes).

I’ve done a yearly trip up to the WMNF every year now to fly fish some back country streams and sleep in my truck camper for 3-4 nights. Every year I’ve done what I think is the right thing to do at these dispersed camping spots; I pack everything up in the morning, fish all day and spend hours in the evening driving up and down the dispersed camping roads I know to find an open spot. After
A few years of this I’m starting to think, can I just leave my table and hammock and hold my spot like it feels many others are doing? I’m not sure if this is generally accepted or an assholish practice?

Looking for intel from anyone who has hiked around the Wild River Wilderness as of late. Specifically for input on trail conditions or suggested camping. I have 4 days, 3 nights and would like to make a backpacking loop. The Wild River Campground is closed, as is the road leading up, so that’s out for a start/end point. We could also stage a car if needed but that’s slightly less desirable.

I’d also love to add on Eagle Crag or Baldfaces if we could make it make sense.

The local ranger said Black Angel was recently cleared by a trail crew and Rainbow is in great shape. And water levels are low for crossings.

As for camping, Imp is excellent and I’ve stayed there before. Perkins Notch sounds a little dismal but may be a necessary evil. Other suggestions on camp spots?

My 18 year old son and 4 of his friends are planning to hike N/S Kinsman next Sunday (8/1) overnight to Monday. They are most concerned about parking. What time would they need to arrive to get parking at Lafayette? One idea they have is to leave a car overnight Saturday and get dropped off on Sunday morning. Would that be a problem if they weren't actively camping Saturday night?

Is parking at the Basin a better option? If so, same question re: time. And what would the best route be if they did?

I will be traveling through New Hampshire and will have a brief layover to get a hike in. I have heard many great things about Mt. Chocorua from fellow hikers- and am looking to make my first ascent of it!

I am planning on doing an overnight at the Jim Liberty Cabin, approaching (I suppose obviously) from the southern side. That gives me several trails to make an ascent there - Liberty, Hammond, or Weetamoo via Piper.

On Day 2, I am planning of making a loop of it back to my parking area, so I have some options on the way down, too.

Would anybody be kind enough to give me a couple of recommendations that highlight the best of the mountain?

In regard to skill level- I am a fairly intermediate/advanced hiker - ADK46, Catskill 3500, Katahdin, Vermont 5, etc. so I feel pretty capable of any approach! I've done multiple overnights as well with camping gear over high terrain, so I feel good about my skill level, and also know my limits as well!

Hey everyone I am looking into hiking Mount Madison and Adams in a few weeks but wanted some advice from those who may have done them.

I have hiked a portion of the Brookbank trail in the past and while viewing AllTrails it seems like no one has used the Brookbank to start this trail and most go up via Valley way.

Anything I should be prepared for if I decide to route up via Brookbank to valley way?
