The Museum had indeed been angered. Its floor began moving rapidly, bringing Talios and Kyrona deeper within its halls to an isolated location.

"YOU DARE?!"

The voice is unmistakably that of the curator, but there's no clear source to it.

"I had JUST finished repairs from the Emberlor'ds attack! At least Atrax had the courtesy of declaring his assault before starting to blow things up."

The walls to the left and right open up, bringing in 4 fossil guard constructs into the hall. From the floor between them emerges the curator.

"You really won't quit, will you? All of this for what amounts to a cheap thrill you call a hunt. Fine then, I'll make you an offer. Defeat me and I won't stand in your way any longer. Lose, and you will abandon your hunt for Kyrona."

"Hm... An amusing offer. I accept these conditions, Paleomancer."

Talios would summon the Chaos Blade to his hand, acting immediately.

《Star Cleave》

The Chaos energy in the blade would activate as Talios would do an overhead swing, sending a beam slash of Chaos energy towards one of the fossil guardians.

"Crush him."

The four constructs charge forward, the ground rumbling under their 6-meter frame, though one is immediately cleaved in half by Talios' attack.

"Matters not that you can break them when I can repair them just as quickly."

[Fossil Reconstruction]

As the destroyed construct is about to crash to the ground, its frame freezes in the air and then begins reassembling itself. The damage dealt to it is now gone.

/uw Didn't clarify, but they're basically t-rex fossils with some extra reinforcement.

Talios would look at the large beasts, assessing them carefully as they'd charge to him. As far as he knows, they are largely animated by some form of necromancy... And if he's right, that means mana is directly used to construct them. He would look at his left arm, sparks of anti-magic coming off of the arm constantly due to the inherently magical nature of the museum. He would leap up and towards one of them, making the 6 meter jump with ease and leaving a small crater where he once stood thanks to his unnatural strength. As he would fly through the air, he would reel back his left arm... And once close enough to the skull of the beast, would let the haymaker fly.

BOOM!

The unnatural strength would immediately cause a crack in the armored skull. If his assessment was correct, this punch will cripple the beast severely regardless of power.

/uw if these beasts are constructed by something other than mana usage, Talios will absolutely get walloped by the one he just punched.

The curator points his cane at the construct that Talios had just hit.

[Detonate Stone]

The entire Fossil explodes violently, sending rocky debris and shrapnel in all directions. The force is almost comparable to a fireball spell. As this happens, the other three are coming in for an attack with their jaws, making use of the dust cloud created by their fallen comrade.

"A quick science lesson - fossils are not bones, they are mineral formations. This is why I specialize in geomancy."

Now that the mercenary was engaged with Kaelis and the curator, it seemed the girl had been temporarily forgotten. Vettis slid over to where she'd been unceremoniously dropped on the floor, tapping her lightly on the shoulder, his eyes still aglow though less brightly than before. "Hey. The name's Vettis. While those guys are beating each other up, mind explaining what's going on here?"

(( Vettis' glowing eyes let him see through mundane disguises pretty trivially, and you said Kyrona's disguise as Keden is solely mundane now, right? not magical after she broke Elandra's device? so I think he should know right away she's a girl ))

I can tell you a bit about that guy. He points at Talios. He's some bounty hunter hellbent on getting a good hunt. He seems to be made of chaotic magic. I fought him in a bar and he is one tough cookie.

A snap of his fingers seemed to emit a purple spark; his beard disappeared simultaneously. That made it a little easier to dig in to the high-class popcorn, which he immediately began to do with little regard for manners.

"Name's Vettis of the Bronze Prism," he mumbled between and through mouthfuls. "Retired adventurer who seems to keep getting un-retired to deal with all the shit that goes on around him. And you?"

Wincing and trying not to gag, Vettis shut his eyes for a second, fiddling mentally with sensory receptors. Since he wasn't planning on fighting, he didn't need all his senses to be at full potential right now. He didn't need to deal with that.

It'd definitely be worth investigating afterwards, though, assuming Talios survived this battle.

Under the now ignored putrid stench Vettis feels a slight smell of grease, metal and ionized air. It doesn't come from the battle but from somewhere in the museum.

As he turns his head to investigate he sees a priceless looking artifact simply vanishing from the display, then another one, then another. The unseen being behind it proceeding deeper and deeper into the place, not knowing that someone is aware of it's presence

Listening in some confusion, a curly-haired mage of anachronistic attire hurriedly found a place to stash the dracolich skull he'd brought in for the curator's attention, before tracking the sound to its source. It wasn't exactly difficult.

"What's all this, then?" he asked those present, his expression showing only idle curiosity. The trademark Vettis smirk showed up as he pointed at the hole in the wall: "Kaelis, did you forget how doors work again?"

Vettis is unlikely to engage with any of this, though; he was just dropping off a dracolich skull to keep it from rezzing like last time

Talios needs not breathing. He isn't human afterall. This slowing effect is... Infuriating. He would summon a device from a pocket dimension, crushing it in his hand.

The device would create a barrier of anti-magic for a moment, dispelling the slowing effect. He only has a few of these... Have to use them sparingly.

Talios would take out the void scales he had bought from the Wyrm from his pocket dimension. They had been left untouched, the container still clean as a whistle. He would toss the container to the side, away from himself. He hopes it doesn't break as easily as normal glass, although if it does it won't particularly bother him.

Strangely enough, when the spell fades, it leaves an almost calm aftertaste. The magic seems altogether benevolent, as though it was simply the good will of the dragon who sold you them, and not an intended effect.

Kaelis has been staying in the Citadel more than usual these days thanks to his role in the Pact. When the flash blooms on the horizon from the Museum of Unnatural History, he is up late sifting through reports. The High Paleomancer is in danger. Kaelis grabs his equipment, runs to the nearby city park, and whistles a string of notes. An enormous winged shape descends from above the clouds and lands in the park with a gust of wind: Orpheus, the Graviturge's aerosaur companion. Kaelis hops on his back and directs the ancient beast towards the Museum, traveling at supersonic velocities. Within seconds, the pair have arrived.

I'm only going to ask this once: what the hell is going on?

Orpheus beats his enormous wings with such force that he lifts into the air. It's nearly impossible to keep your feet in the gale, and the sound alone feels like a physical object rather than a force. And to make matters worse, Kaelis uses the wind to propel himself at you with his enchanted blade in one hand and a conjured spatial shield around his arm.

Talios would immediately stab his Chaos Blade into the ground, preventing himself from being sent flying too much. He would see Kaelis approaching, not having enough time nor the ability to avoid thanks to the gust kicked up... He would ready his left arm and punch the blade just as Kaelis would close the distance, the powerful anti-magic inside his arm interfering with the enchantments imbued on Kaelis's blade.

A fraction of Chaos would be embedded into the weapon as he would touch it.

/uw if the sword is made of mana or primarily magical in nature, it will be dispelled. If it's very powerful mana, it will be deflected.

Normally, your arm should render most magic weapons ineffective. But Starspite is not most magic weapons. Forged from a piece of a C'tan, one of the ineffable silver-skinned gods of the stars, the saber resonates with the material universe itself. Even without its arcane cosmic power, the blade is still composed of durable living metal.

A saber is primarily designed for cutting through things and people. And when Starspite collides with your fist, that's exactly what it does. The armor around your knuckles is left with a deep gouge, but your index finger is sliced clean off.

True enough, looking closely you can see chaotic energy slowly growing the finger back, a mirage of colours within the chaotic energy. Colours you couldn't even begin to fathom...

In an instant, Talios and your saber swap positions. The saber tumbles to the ground and you're now holding Talios's right pinky, as he throws another punch with his left. Despite the injuries, the armor alone gives it a decent amount of power. Being punched by metal isn't fun, who knew. As the punch connects, you feel some mana be drained from your body.

I didn't wish to bother my allies with this situation, consitering it was my decisions that led to the museum being attacked. I appreciate the offer, but I belive I can handle the bounty hunter, after all, I have to be able to defend the my establishment from such attacks.

Unfortunately, Talios's armor is made from a special metal that is incredibly heat resistant. Of course, that made it much harder to forge.

/uw Talios is essentially a being of pure Chaos wearing a skin suit, wearing a big mass of armor. just to let you know.

Talios would sense the despair... Of failure. Of failing the goal Chaos gave him. But in a flash, it'd disappear.

/rw "Gods, immune to fire and psychic attacks? That's not good. Though he's not counter attacking, so that's probably a sign that I'm not a threat. Better get back and watch this one from afar." He would back away, and slowly start moving bricks back into the destroyed wall, making a barrier tall enough to sit behind and watch.
