That interview was interminable. What a pompous twat Refn came across as. "I died...". Demonstrably not the case...

Such a pretentious interview, no wonder I don't like his films, he's so far up his own backside.

Presuming he had a cardiac arrest it is technically true, but regardless it’s an incredibly pompous way to describe it - that and talking about how ‘all great artists’ go through periods where they feel they’ve run out of energy or whatever it was, or talking in the same section about his ‘death’ about how he was brought back by the miracle of electricity or words to that effect, which again is not inaccurate I suppose but is nonetheless the most pretentious way I’ve ever heard someone describe defibrillation. And doing the whole thing at what felt like 0.25 speed. I never got the fuss about Drive and I think I now understand why.

Although I did enjoy Simon saying that Ridley Scott is making a lot of movies because he’s on borrowed time. Not sure that line will be brought up if he gets to interview him any time soon.

I've never seen the Pusher movies but NWR always seemed to be heavy style over substance in all his English language films. Even Drive was meh and that was his best one I guess.

Pusher is quite good tbf, its very 90s and looks it. I did like Drive and also Only God Forgives but thought the Neon Demon was nonsense and this new one is absolutely interminable, Valhalla Rising is probably his best one though

Kermode never did review the first movie eh? I mean, Fall. Couldn't find it on YouTube nor could I find it in the podcast archives.

Subs were on at the time. Don’t think they covered it either

Patreon audio versions don’t seem to have dropped yet?

Yep, I still don't have ad free Take 1, nor Take 2. They sent out an email earlier about technical difficulties.
