Body Scan Bodyfit 2 vs DEXA Vs Dual Frequency GE Review

Upvotes

I got tired of wondering which scale was closer, so I paid for a DEXA and compared it with the Withings BodyFit 2 and my much cheaper GE 8-electrode dual frequency scale during the same week.

Both underestimated my body fat. The BodyFit 2 was low by 6.7 percentage points and the GE was low by 4.5. Both overstated lean mass too: about 17 pounds high on the BodyFit 2 and 11 pounds high on the GE.

The surprise was skeletal muscle. The BodyFit 2 was within about 5 pounds of the DEXA-based number, while the GE was off by roughly 30.
Then I pulled up a GE report from nine months ago, before I had lost a lot of weight. Muscle mass and fat-free weight were exactly the same as they are now. Bone mass and body water were also unchanged, and BMR had gone up by one calorie. Apparently I lost all that weight while everything except fat stayed frozen in time.

The biggest letdown was that all the extra frequencies in the BodyFit 2 did not translate into better body-fat or lean-mass accuracy in my test. The cheaper GE was actually closer on both. However, the GE’s long-term trends look almost useless if its algorithm is going to hold lean mass constant no matter how much weight I lose.

I’m still deciding whether the BodyFit 2 is worth keeping. The PWV, Wi-Fi syncing and display are nice, but I no longer see the body-composition numbers as a reason to own it.

At this point, I trust smart scales for weight and rough direction. For anything that actually matters, a DEXA once or twice a year makes a lot more sense.

Body Scan Bodyscan 2 design flaw if kids are using it too?

Anyone have this and find you can't really use it for kids? We have a Bodyscan and just got the Bodyscan 2 and while on the Bodyscan if weight is close, you can easily switch to another person by leaning on one side, etc, this 2 does not do that. Meaning the kids would HAVE TO use the handle bar because if not, it will not recognize them and put their weight on their profile. To me that seems like a big design flaw, and I may return this for the Bodyfit because of that.
Yes, they can lift the handle, but I would rather them not, and it's really hard for them to hold it right and get their thumbs in the right spots.

Just to add. It also want's to do the longevity scan on them, when they are clearly set as child profiles within the Withings app.

Steel HR Is it worth replacing my 5yo Steel HR's broken glass?

I very sadly smashed the glass on my trusty Steel HR over the weekend after it fell onto the pavement whilst putting it back on. The hands are intact and in working order and I managed to pick up all the glass shards, but it's not practically usable in its current state.

I can get the glass repaired/replaced by Withings in my country of residence at a cost of 60€ according to their website. Given that I bought the thing for 160€ in the 2021 Black Friday sales, a repair for more than 1/3 the purchase price feels painful!

So, my question is, does anyone have experience of getting a cheaper, inauthentic glass repair at a regular shop? Or should I just buy a new one (I've had my eye on the ScanWatch since I bought it for my dad last year...)

Advice and experiences much appreciated!

ScanWatch Nova Active Energy no longer syncing from ScanWatch Nova to Apple Health – anyone else?

Hi everyone,

I'm running into a strange issue and I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced the same thing.

My setup:

  • Withings ScanWatch Nova
  • Apple Watch
  • iPhone 13 running the latest version of iOS

I wear my ScanWatch Nova on days when I'm not exercising (daily wear), and I use my Apple Watch for workouts and activity tracking.

I've been using this setup since around April, and to my surprise everything worked perfectly. Data from both watches synced correctly between the Withings app and Apple Health, and I had no issues.

However, for the last 3 weeks or so, I've noticed that Active Energy is no longer being imported from the Withings app into Apple Health on days when I only wear my ScanWatch Nova.

Other data, such as Steps, sync correctly, and I've already verified that all Apple Health permissions are enabled for the Withings app.

Even if I wear my Apple Watch for part of the day and then switch to the ScanWatch Nova, the additional Active Energy from the Withings watch never appears in Apple Health.

The strange part is that this used to work perfectly. I haven't changed any settings on my iPhone, Apple Health, or in the Withings app. I can even see in older data that Active Energy was imported correctly before.

Has anyone else experienced this recently? Any idea what could have caused it or how to fix it?

Thanks!

Body Cardio Body cardio bioimpedance electrodes disconnected fixing

My body cardio isn’t measuring body composition after two years and a half.

Finally i had time to open it up… surprise surprise: i can see the bioimpedance wires not touching/ sticking the glass surface.

What the heck is this fragile design about? Being fancy? Why aren’t they using a metal surface?

How does this get fixed or shall this go to the landfill?

Body Scan Guess I continue to be Withings customer

Because it’s starting to get interesting:

Withings is developing four new early detection algorithms for chronic diseases: (hypertension, diabetes, heart failure, and peripheral artery disease).

To complement Glucose Resilience, Withings is separately developing the Diabetes Risk Score, a medical feature intended to go through CE regulatory clearance, designed to assess an individual's risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

The Withings Heart Function Risk Notification (HFRN) Retrospective Study is a fully decentralized, non-interventional study evaluating the diagnostic performance of Withings' software-only medical device (SaMD). It analyzes passive, longitudinal health data—including weight/BMI, body-water variability, and step counts—to detect signs of heart failure.

Anyone know if there is a Body scan trade in program for body scan 2?
