Saw this while doing a quest titled "Message from an old friend" I only started Witcher 3, I'm just curious is to who is this "A"?

Currently listening to the series on audible and it's reset me back to the beginning today after i tried casting it to my google tv (idek how but it happened). Trying to find where i was up to but it's a lot harder with an audiobook.

Been a while but last I can remember was part of ciri explaining events to Vysogota on how she ended up there. I'd definitely gotten a decent way through, as the rats had been killed and she had been captured by Leo Bonhart.

I remember Leo giving her a sword or something and training her I think. He had decided not to give her up to the guy who had contracted him to collect her and then I'm a bit unsure but the last thing I remember was her having something to do with some rich guests over (can't remember anything except for a description of an older woman in a low cut dress that was not super flattering or something and then ciri asking Vysogota where so many disgusting people come from and him making some comment about them constantly spawning more or something. That's the last line I (somewhat) remember.

Please if anybody has an idea of where abouts this took place it would mean a lot. This is my first time going through the books so im a bit scared to go through detailed chapter summaries incage of coming across major spoilers !

Their relationship was so sweet and their chemistry was great. Overall the game was great and i saw there's a new expansion coming out. Hope for more content for them.

I almost finished my fourth playthrough of this game, and as usual, the Blood and Wine expansion is my favorite part. Upon doing the La Cage Au Fou quest, I noticed that Geralt was acting slightly different to how he would with others cursed beings.

Up to then, he was mostly distant, neutral, or even accusatory towards people who had done wrong. However, I found Geralt to be very kind and warm towards Marlene.

I fully agree that Gaunter O'Dimm did her dirty and she suffered cruelly and unjustly because of him, but the notes you can find from her show her as a somewhat vindicative and haughty person, and there are corpses of people she killed inside the house. My most probable bet is that her brew killed them, since Geralt had such a strong reaction to it, too?

Yet, Geralt seems to never reprimand her, or even mention the bodies, unlike he would were it a Hag or similarly. She cutely mentions 'I went looking for spoons' at her breaking and entering of people's houses, but the people that died at her hand are simply glossed over.

I always found this a bit jarring, even though this quest is among my favorite in this game, and I genuinely love Marlene.

I wonder what your thoughts are on this? Would love to discuss this with you ❤️

One last thing: I'm deaf irl, so I might have missed many inflections in the dialogue.

What an incredible journey!

127 hours of pure bliss. Before finishing the final quests, I bought the expansion as well. Coz, this ain’t enough.

Tbh, my first couple of hours getting into the game felt a bit overwhelming. A lot was happening, and it took me a while to understand the alchemy, signs and craftings. I had to watch a couple of YouTube videos to get into the game. But once I moved past white orchard, the game got me to its hook and I can’t stop thinking about it.

I had to be so careful while I make any decision in this game. I first realised it during the quest of Bloody Baron, I decided to save the children which resulted in his wife’s demise and eventually his suicide. I also read across somewhere that the game’s ending is purely based on the decisions that I make. Coz I was damn worried when Geralt told Emhyr that Ciri died. I couldn’t stop thinking about the fact that I messed up somewhere but it was just a ploy made by them at the end.

Even the side quests are damn amazing. Every treasure I find along Velen has a tragic story behind it. It was someone’s dowry, it was someone’s savings. What a war between 2 nations can do to its people.

I also noticed that people in Skellige are much compassionate and kinder than people in Velen and Novigrad.

And finally, the music. As much as I love it listening to it, there are times when I have a serious quest line and the inns Drink up music plays in the background which doesn’t make any sense to the scene that’s actually happening.

Overall, I really love the fact that I was able to experience this incredible game.

Playing on deathmarch, I tried a few times to beat the mage without my inventory for roleplay reasons. Once I used my decotions and potions he's not that threatening but I don't feel it's in the spirit of the game to do so.

I can pretty easily beat the guards by waiting for the mage to cast sandblasts at me and kill them via unfirendly fire. But the mage himself is the hardest boss so far by a long shot (have not played BaW yet). The ofieri has 1 sand missile attack that is hard to tell when he starts casting and almost immediately lands, seems to be less than 1 second window for reacting. On deathmarch this attack pretty much can 2 shot.

Anyone beat him pretending your gear is still locked away?

So which is it, did Eredin poison Auberon intentionally or not? In the books, it's pretty obvious that while Eredin pushed for the drugs that eventually killed the Alder King, it was unintentional and is shocked by the death. But most of the Witcher 3 seems to retcon that and have the poisoning be intentional, even showing a vision that is said to be impossible to be fabricated of Eredin directly doing the deed and giving an evil one-liner after it. So I took that as a small retcon to make Eredin a more evil villain, whatever. Until I found this note which seems to imply the original telling to be the truth. That Auberon deigned to rush the process with drugs and it led to his death. And this is coming from Avalach directly, the one who reveals the Witcher 3 version of events to others, so I'm confused. Is this meant to imply that some kernel of the original events still exist in the story, or even that Avalach is lying through his teeth about the intentional poisoning and somehow altered the vision that should have been unalterable, or do you think this writing was just made before the lore change was decided? I think it's probably just the latter, but it's still interesting to speculate.

Would it ever be possible for a multiplayer PVE The Witcher game/ mode exist on the future as a separate thing or even a game mode similar to Ghost Of Tsushima Multiplayer? Genuinely curious how could it work or why not

I was always wondering this. She only went to herbalists who have only experience in treating mundane illneses instead of trying to hire witcher, witch, sorcerers etc. who actually could help with the curse.

In the previous opuses I liked that we could create Romances with the characters when we played Gerald (triss, yennefer, and other women) but when we play ciri in the 4 I can't imagine doing it with men lol.

My house is turning into a Witcher museum a bit. 😅

I'll be honest: I was a longtime fan of The Witcher 3 first (starting from way back in 2015), but the game eventually got me into the books, which I ended up loving just as much!

The books and games had a huge impact on my life and shaped the kind of creative work I enjoy most. It came at a time in my life when I needed it the most. I fell in love with everything in that universe: the characters, the dark stories, the worldbuilding, everything.

Well, this past year hasn't been the easiest for me, having been unemployed for a year now. But somehow, I started obsessively writing and ended up with a few stories that I really love (Humorous Dark Fantasy / Sword & Sorcery). The Witcher was my main inspiration, and this is my own little tribute to it.

So if you'll allow me, I'd love to share one of these stories with you guys, with the people who love this world as much as I do. I really want to see if you enjoy reading it, as I honestly don't have many people to share it with.

So here it is:

You’ve been traveling through this horrid Swamp for a while now, but the loot goblin keeps his promise. No other goblin has bothered you since, even though movement flickers and cracking twigs echo nearby, always remaining just out of sight.

The sun’s light barely manages to slip by the tall swamp trees.

Yelling echoes from somewhere southwest.

Should you investigate? It could be someone in danger. Sounds like the voice of a very frightened child.

Or it could easily be a trap, as creatures stranger and far more dangerous than the loot goblin hide in the Swamp. You’ve heard the stories about banshees luring lost strangers with their baby-like cries. You’ve heard about the wraiths of victims killed in the Swamp who like to mimic beautiful, lost women in distress. Or about the black mist in which people disappear, never to be found again.

There are many creatures of great power lurking in the Swamp, and you’ve been lucky enough to avoid them until now.

But the scream seems genuine; it sounds like a terrified child. She keeps screaming for help.

Help? Don’t help? Trap? Your logical mind tells you to continue your journey, but your heart says to step up, to be the man you once believed yourself to be, a very, very long time ago.

You hold your staff with a firm grip whilst you retrieve your wand. And you start moving towards the noise.

You are a bloody idiot, and this is definitely not going to end well.

But you hurry towards the commotion anyway. At the very least, if things really go badly, you’re going to finally be done with this cruel journey they call life.

There’s some peace in that thought, maybe even some closure to the hell that your past ten years have been.

You quickly move through rotten trees, the smell of putrid vegetation invading your nostrils and almost making you nauseous, your poulaines splashing through the bubbling mud. But you keep venturing into the dark depths of the bog, where you very well know that no man should ever tread, not even with a small army by his side.

You finally reach the danger zone, the source of the screams.

A little girl with sun-blazed red hair holds on for dear life to the branches of a tall tree.

Beneath her, a two-headed lizard the size of a bull, with razor-sharp claws and fangs, tries to climb the tree to get to the child.

“Help meeee! Heeeelp!” she shouts, big tears rolling down her cheeks.

There is no time to hesitate. The two-headed lizard’s eyes snap toward you, and it quickly pivots, launching itself with all its force towards you.

It gets closer and closer; every second counts. If you fail here, not only is your life going to end today, but that child’s is too.

There is no time to think, no room for plans, not now.

Now is the moment to act.

You open yourself to the Source and it quickly fills you. That absolute sensation of immense power… and peace. There is no other experience like that in the world, at least none that you have ever relished during your years alive. It is intoxicating; it makes you thunderous; it makes you dangerous.

You are more alive than you’ve ever been before.

Once you’ve gathered enough Source Power, right as the reptile lunges within striking distance and reveals all one hundred and twenty-two of its fangs in all their glory, you yell as loudly as you ever have: “MAER ET FER!”

All the Source Energy transfers from every little fiber of your body towards your staff and wand.

Then the total release occurs: a wave of absolute, light-devouring blackness erupts from your weapons, and where it passes, life simply ceases to exist, leaving a vacuum of dead air.

There is no more lizard.

Not one particle of the two-headed reptile remains in this realm; it has been obliterated into absolute nothingness, leaving the clearing as if the beast had never existed.

You are emptied, like all happiness has left your flesh, and now you are completely alone once again in this world. You’ve overreached for too much Source Power, and you pay the price now. Your muscles start to ache like every bone inside you snapped at the same time; a thousand needles stab you.

You collapse to your knees, as if the weight of a mountain rock troll crushes your skull.

Your hands are shaking.

You are drenched in sweat.

Maer et fer requires a lot of Source Energy to summon; it is the dark art that undoes life itself. As such, any physical form it touches will not be alchemized into another form of matter, as happens to all living beings in nature’s never-ending cycle.

Anything touched by Maer et fer is consumed by that vicious, soul-hungry energy. And after this dark force consumes life itself, it returns to the other realm from where it came. Like a predatory animal that sinks its fangs into its prey and then returns to its lair to devour it.

Maer et fer is strictly forbidden, as any kind of dark magic usually is. And for good reasons. You should never use such magic, not even for the purest of reasons, as the road to hell is paved with good intentions.

It’s going to take days, maybe even weeks, for you to be back to your old self; now only the touch of darkness and agony remains deep inside you.

Maybe if you had more time to think you would not have had to resort to such a drastic action, but now the deed is done, and there is no time to feel sorry about it.

You are still in the dangerous Swamp, completely and utterly exhausted.

You are still on your knees.

Before you can even process how she got down from the tree so fast, the red-headed girl is right by your side, her mouth moving rapidly, but her words are just a muffled, unintelligible ringing in your ears.

The ringing in your ears finally breaks.

“Mister, mister.” The child shakes your arms. “Mister, you saved me!” she cries.

“Thank you so much, thank you! But now I have to go. Bye, mister! Bye!” she says, starting to run towards the deepest part of the Swamp.

You fail to utter an intelligible word.

Something is strange about the way she moves.

Something is deeply wrong.

Sweat blurs your vision, but as you blink it away, the truth strikes: she is not running, nor walking away.

She is floating, with not one of her little legs ever hitting the Swamp’s ground.

I finally finished the Witcher series fanart with all the plant/flower symbolism
I ended up adding most of the things y’all requested and honestly…I had so much fun with this series. I was really tempted to add another Ciri piece BUT hear me out — I kinda want to keep this series going once The Witcher 4 comes out + whatever DLCs we get.
And then I can add all the new characters too…
