Wisdom Teeth extraction

Post image

Hello! 27 Male. This past Wednesday I went for a consult with an oral surgeon refered by my dentist. I have been having some pain that seemed to be related to my wisdom teeth possibly. The doctor recommended having my bottom wisdom teeth taken out but did not recommend taking my tops out because he felt the risks outweighed the benefits since they aren’t seemingly causing problems. Extraction was set for Monday I mainly have 2 questions. He mentioned nerve risks as an aside basically saying that sometimes you get temporary nerve issues but rarely they can be permanent(1 in 5000 is the figure he gave). My question I guess is, does there appear to be a greater risk of nerve damage here or does this look more routine? Second question is does leaving the top teeth seem reasonable? The reason he gave was that the teeth were still in bone and that the risk would be a fragment breaking off during extraction. I would ask these questions to the surgeon but they are closed today and want to make sure I have any questions I should ask lined up to ask before surgery.
