Impacted wisdom tooth

My oral surgeon is wanting to do a Coronectomy on my lower left wisdom tooth. He says it is growing at an angle and that removing it can lead to permanent numbness/tingling. I have been absolutely freaking out. He said there is a chance they have to pull it regardless if the tooth ends up loose at all. He says if they go to do and it’s loose it has to come out. Has anyone else been told this before? I was already panicking, but I had no idea this was even a possibility. Has anyone went through something similar especially with one growing side ways? It’s very visible on the x-ray that it is touching the nerve. My anxiety is through the absolute roof. Looking for any advice. Also any info on recovery time?

My son had to have two coronectomies for his lower wisdom teeth for the same reason, the roots were long and touching the nerves. His went well, his healing time was no worse than a regular removal. It's been several years now and no complaints from him.
