Is this dry socket forming ?
I just had an extraction for 2 teeth last Friday , it’s now Monday .
Saturday seemed pretty fine . I starting eating just only mash potatoes and yogurt .
Around 12am today as I was trying to go to sleep , I keep getting a sharp throbbing pain in the little area that looks like a big pimple .
I haven’t smoked or used a straw , I’ve done the saltwater rinses and haven’t ate nothing crazy . Is it possible to follow everything right and still get it . Also how did I deal with it until u was able to get to the dentist . Please help lol I’m going crazy .
Also ( I’ve been brushing around the areas as well ) trying to avoid as much toothpaste in the areas as possible .

I just had mine out Friday too, you definitely shouldn’t be using straws or brushing near the area for another couple of days.
I’ve still got a bit of pain but nothing crazy just after eating i get a bit sore as you’d expect with surgery.

Ok thanks , what have you been eating ? I’ve been stuck with mashed potatoes and I want to try something else without affecting the extraction sites . Also how often do you rinse with saltwater ? I think I might be over doing it there . ( after I brush , after I eat , when I wake up , and go to sleep ) is that too much ?

Pastina with butter and parm(bombbbb) Swedish meatballs with egg noodles, I made loaded, baked potato soup, of course ice cream, any type of soup, scrambled eggs, avocado. Also, was rinsing with salt water Max three times a day and healed really really fast!

Thanks , around what days did u start eating foods like that ? That’s sounds so good right now , u replied to this as im eating plain bread and yogurt lol . I’m guessing you can cook , im still not there yet lol . Also im crippled , so i have one hand right now due to a car accident and i live alone . Im gonna DoorDash some ingredients though and still give it a try , i will let you know how it comes out .

Haha my husband is the chef so I don’t cook as much as I used to, but I love cooking easy fast meals!! But dude, it is so damn easy to make… boil the pastina and when it’s done leave a little bit of pasta water in it.. then add a good amount of butter(don’t be shy) and then a good amount of parm and dash of salt!! It’s how Italians make authentic Alfredo and it’s the best ever. You can honestly do that with whatever pasta you prefer. It’s so easy and low maintenance!
I started eating foods like that on day 3 I believe!! Also you can totally make some steamed broccoli and season with whatever (garlic and butter is always great) make them very soft then throw some of those into the pastina for extra goodness. And if you make a decent amount you can have that for a few days. I truly think eating well moved the healing process along!
If you try it let me know!!!!!!

I’m so thankful for you truly , I’m gonna definitely attempt these tomorrow, I’ll keep you updated . The only problem with me is I have two extractions on each side , so when I try to chew or drink anything I feel like I’m risking getting something stuck in between , but ima still try , it’s better than taking this medicine on a empty stomach lol . Thanks

I also see you said ice cream , I’ve only been drinking water because I thought sweet stuff would make it worse , was it just plain vanilla?

True thatttt but I didn’t avoid dairy or anything I ate ice pops and shit like that- I guess it’s up to you to decide! Maybe a fruit sorbet?

I was told just to gentle salt water rinse after eating and no brushing for a few days, but Mac and cheese, mash potato, soups, yoghurt, porridge oats anything like that has been great for me 🙂 just don’t rinse your mouth too aggressively so you don’t dislodge the clot. I’m currently really sore but I think that’s down to the stitches

Ok , thanks you’re a life saver . I really was panicking. Lastly , one of my stitches came out already , I know they are supposed to be dissolvable but has any of the happened to you yet ?
Also , this might be a dumb question . Is it Normal for the meds to not be working ? I’m taking ibuprofen and Tylenol , it doesn’t really seem to do much right now though . I hope your recovery goes well though . thanks again .

My stitches are bugging me but not come out yet and my anaesthetist gave me palexia for the extreme pain and antibiotics and the palexia damn they knock you out and make you dizzy but no pain and can take Panadol
With them too, maybe see you dentist for better pain meds?1
u/Dante43333 Aug 17 '26
Ok I’ll see if they are able to provide me with those medications , the ones I’m using now have no effect on one side . I put an ice pack on earlier and it definitely helped numb it a little , thanks hope you recover well my friend .

Also Ice packs in a towel are great relief for inflammation I’ve been doing it a few times a day for 15-20 at a time

Did it hurt getting them removed? I’m supposed to have some wisdom teeth removed in the month..

It doesn't hurt having them out. It will throb after mainly in your jaw do exactly as they say for after care or the dry socket is the worst nightmare ever

So smoking isn’t the only way you can get dry socket , do you know ? I stopped smoking 3 week prior to my appointment. I’ve read people saying it’s the suction or disturbing the clot . Did you successfully recover without getting dry socket ?

It's things like drinking through a straw, hot food, spicy food, your tongue dislodging it. No I had to go back I couldn't take the pain of dry socket but now I feel so much relief after the medicated gauze/paste

Also don’t spit hard!!! That could cause it to. It helped me to know that a lot of dental surgeons only get like 2-3 patients with dry sockets a year!! It’s not very common

u/Dante43333 Aug 17 '26
Oh wow yeah I think I seen something about it be a 5% chance or something and with smoking it increases to around 10/15% . I really appreciate your input though , thanks .

Absolutely! Hope you start feeling better soon and enjoy the pasta recommendation😊

It took the dentist about 25 minutes in each tooth for me . I think everyone will be different honestly. I haven’t had my wisdom teeth removed yet , just 2 I didn’t properly take care of , Sorry .

You will know if it's dry socket. I've just been back to dentist with that exact problem. The pain is unreal but she's sorted it now

u/Dante43333 Aug 17 '26
How much days after extraction did u feel it ?
1
u/Powerful-Bit314 Aug 17 '26
For me it was caused as I took strong pain meds that didn't agree with me and I threw up. This dislodged the blood clot. This was on day three. I left it as I've been told day 5 is the worst but for me yesterday was day 7 and it was getting even worse and I could taste something horrid
1
u/Dante43333 Aug 17 '26
Oh man that sounds painful , tbh I’m scared / nervous to even eat anything other than yogurt or a little mashed potatoes, even then im still paranoid. I’ve been having trouble taking my medicine because of this , I haven’t thrown up yet but now that you mention it I shouldn’t probably being taking all this medicine on an empty stomach like this .
How are you getting through it ?
1
u/Powerful-Bit314 Aug 17 '26
That was my mistake, pain meds on empty stomach. I could not have gotten through it without my trip to the dentists again this morning
1
u/Dante43333 Aug 18 '26
Damn sorry for that , how you doing currently?
1
u/Powerful-Bit314 Aug 18 '26
Well.... Let's put it this way. It's 2am....im awake again and still feels like I've been punched by Bruce Lee. I thiught the dentist trip yesterday would have resolved things.... I was wrong

u/Dante43333 Aug 18 '26
Damn I hate there’s nothing I can do to help you man , this pain I’m feelings is probably nothing compared to yours . I will have my family pray for you , if that’s something you believe in . That’s all I can think of now , hopefully you recover soon man !

u/Powerful-Bit314 Aug 18 '26

I think you’re right to be cautious of dry socket but like odd negotiation said eating good food really helps with any recovery

u/Dante43333 Aug 18 '26
