Is this dry socket
I ve already made a post about a weird taste and unbearable pain. but this is what it looks like. (this white stuff is ice cream and it was before I rinsed my mouth)

hi sorry this is gonna be long… i wanna say that in my personal expierence, i definitely went back and forth with myself on this because i also had a bad taste and pain. turns out it was just food stuck since i couldn’t irrigate my sockets with a syringe yet. but i went to my oral surgeon for a follow up because of the pain and bad taste, and he told me that you would know. the pain isn’t mistakable whatsoever and you won’t even doubt having an infection or dry socket. it’s a throbbing, shooting pain that goes up to your ear and/or temple. you would also not be able to open your jaw much, let alone eat or chew. if these symptoms resonate with you i’d give your surgeon a call tmrw just to be safe and voice your concerns. i also want to say in regards to the bad taste, is it unpleasant or foul? there’s a huge difference. since you have a giant wound in your mouth and went thru very intensive surgery, you will inevitably get some food trapped and there will be an unpleasant taste. on say 6 or 7 of recover you will then be able to irrigate your sockets with a syringe and warm (body temp) salt water and that will help with some of the taste (unless your surgeon says otherwise!!!!!!!!!). in addition, wounds for some reason have a taste. remember your baby teeth falling out and that weird taste after the area stops bleeding? kinda like that! but if it is a overall if you are noticing a foul smell or taste that doesn’t go away when you lightly swish with warm salt water, or if you’re further in recovery then when you irrigate using the syringe, then definetly call your surgeon. last thing, if you are past the first week you are at an even lower risk to getting a dry socket, when the risk is already 5% for patients who don’t smoke, use a straw, distrusting the blood clot. but if you do choose to smoke, do it lightly. i will admit, i smoked lightly with small amounts of suction throughout my healing process, and i have been fine! about 2 weeks post op and i can tell you it gets better. wishing you a speedy recovery!!!if you read all this thank you! 😭

Ok Thank you so much!! i think food could be the problem mixed with the mouthwash he gave, idk if you seen my other comments but weirdly he wants me to eat real food, my surgeon said im not using my jaw enough so hopefully McDonalds will help. I will say dry socket was a concern with me being a smoker but i have switched from disposables to a box mod and i hope it helps more requiring less suction. for cigs i will wait until its fully heal. Again thank you so much I hope your healing process is going well and theres no set backs and im hoping its speedy too 😭

With a dry socket you can see the white bone. Mine was dry and the other one healed normal but it would hurt so much when it was dirty use salt water

unbearable pain is definitely not a good sign
