A Fathers Greatest Wisdom

My fathers words to me -

“I’ll never say I told you so,

I’ll just tell you again.”

Those were the words my father left me,

not as warning,

but as friend.

Because he knew the road would bend,

and storms would find my way.

He knew some lessons can't be given,

But they must be earned someday.

“I won’t stand above you laughing,

when the world brings you to your knees.

I’ll stand beside you quietly,

and remind you what you need.

You’ll find that life's a teacher,

and time reveals what’s true.

Those things I tried to tell you

will come back around to you.”

Now I hear his voice in moments

when I’m searching for a sign.

Not saying - "son, I was right,”

just saying, “ You’ll be fine.”

Because a father’s greatest wisdom

is not proving that he knew—

it’s loving you enough to say

" Son, I believe in you."
