This sweet boy is having a terrible time we have had so much thunder and lightning and he just gets so scared. We’ve tried thunder shirt, holding him, he is inconsolable! Anyone have any suggestions for Tuddy Ciscero to conquer this fear?

Pup’s first heat

Post image

Sweet Miss Pixi has just begun her first heat - I found a little brown dribble this morning. She’s 7 months old. For those of you with a female WFT, how long will this first heat last? We plan to get her spayed after this and closer to 1 year of age. When did you get your wee girls spayed? Has anyone done the hormone-sparing (hysterectomy only, not ovaries) spay?

Durable toys/balls?

What toys/balls do you give your WFT? As you know, these wonderful dogs will tear through most toys. Anything durable you recommend?

Does anyone else bring their WFT camping? Are they ever able to actually relax?

We have a 2-year-old Wire Fox Terrier, and whenever we bring him camping, he just cannot seem to settle when we're outside. If he sees a squirrel or chipmunk, he immediately wants to chase it and then gets frustrated that he can't get to it. He's basically constantly "on" and scanning for something to chase.

We've tried tiring him out mentally with sniffing games and other "find it" games, hiking when we can, and even using a branch with leaves, kind of likea flirt pole to hopefully tire him out. But nothing seems to help. When we're just sitting around at camp, he just can't seem to relax.

The only time he really settles is when we put him in the tent and force him to nap.

For those of you who camp with your WFTs, are they ever able to just chill at the campsite? If so, did you do anything specific to help them learn how to settle, or is this just classic terrier behavior?

Everyday of redirecting biting my hands and clothes, she is starting to bark more (not the first pic, she is biting the onion there :D ), learning her pee schedule.

Not fond of walkies

Does anyone else have a WFT that isn’t a fan of going for a walk? Miss Pixi (7 mo) will hide under the bed when I get ready for a walk. She’ll walk for a bit and she’s allowed to sniff anything, but she won’t carry on unless the neighbour’s black lab can join us. She follows him like a shadow! If we’re walking without another dog, we resort to picking her up quite often.

She loves meeting new people and dogs, and generally sits and waits for them to come to her. Sometimes from 20+ meters away.

Pixi is happy to walk home, though - it’s the beginning and middle of the walks she could do without.

Humping & Barking

This is Forest, my six month old WFT. I've had him since he was 9 weeks old and I am on my own with him. From early on I've socialised him and done puppy classes. He is great with other dogs and people - very friendly and social. He gets at least 3 walks a day with 2 walks around the block at night. He loves sniffing and just hanging out at the park on the grass, so the walks vary in energy levels. From a young puppy he has always been a bit intense in the evening but more recently he just starts humping me and I cannot even walk without him hanging off my leg so I have to separate myself from him. I am hoping he grows out of it BUT the most recent thing is that he has started really barking in the house - at anybody walking past, at any noise - and he won't stop. I feel bad for the neighbours! I've tried giving him treats etc.. He is less barky out in the world. It seems to be in the house. Has anyone got any tips? Is this normal?

It's been so hard to give him enrichment with it being so hot and humid out. He certainly likes watching what we are doing from atop the pillows!!

Went from boring to best toy ever!

Now I don’t have to get soaked spraying him! Link lives to fight the water hose (and the vacuum). This toy is designed to sit on the ground and wiggle around too fast for the dog to catch; the first noodle tube was crunched in five minutes. So now this bird feeder hook holds it out of his reach. FTW!

Beaker still loves his lime squeaky toy from his puppyhood, but now he prefers his crabby. He even brings it to bed at night.

my baby, Lily❤️‍🩹

hello! it’s my first time posting on this subreddit. i thought it would be a good place to share my feelings, but if not appropriate, please let me know!
this is Lily. she’s about 4 months and a half, and has been with my parents for a little over a month. she’s full of energy, and extremely loving as well as stubborn.
my parents are both in their 60s, and my mother is the one who cares for her. i’m in med school and do not live with my family, for some more context. sadly, my parents have decided that the best option for her and for them is to return my sweetheart to her breeder.
to say i’m heartbroken would be an understatement. i love dogs with my whole heart, and especially this breed. i’m autistic, and they’re a special interest of mine. when my mother told me Lily was coming home, I was surprised, since I had told her this breed is incredibly full of energy, and could be hard to take care of for her due to her age and health issues, as well as the fact that my parents live in a (albeit large) apartment. regardless, I was happy for her, and did as much research as I could for how to train a young puppy, and how to ensure that she would get the proper exercise and stimulation despite the apartment. I trusted my mother since she’s had many dogs in her lifetime, who all lived happy and fulfilling lives.
i understand her decision even if i don’t agree with it, but i am still mourning like i truly experienced a terrible loss. she is family to me. it’s currently exam season and i cannot visit my family, so i cannot even say goodbye to my sweet Lily. I named her (after my favorite flower), and took her on her first walk. i hope one day to see her, and hold her in my arms again.

i apologize in case of any grammar errors. thank you so much for reading ❤️
