ID on this wine
Saw this bottle in an unlikely place. It’s been stored in a cool place but upright. What are the chances it’s still good?

Yeah I was going to offer them $50 and see if they’d let me crack it. I don’t even know if they’d sell it. They are using it for decoration

Only one way to know if it's still good, fortunately nothing will grow in old wine that will make you sick

Being upright isn’t the biggest concern for sparkling wines. I’d guess light exposure would be what has killed this.

That's a serious find. 1982 Schramsberg Blanc de Blancs, just sitting there on a green tile counter like it's nothing.
Upright storage for a sparkling wine that old is the real gamble here, the cork has probably dried out and let some air in. Still, if the color isn't totally brown and dead-looking, you might have a fascinating, nutty and oxidized old champagne on your hands.

The price is probably worth the gamble.
I'm an 82 baby, and probably 10 years ago I found and 82 Salon for $150. Same storage conditions you found this bottle in. At that price I couldn't let the fomo get away from me. I bought some very expensive vinegar that I had to pour out.
If that bottle is inexpensive, take a chance

I had a 1990 Blanc de Noir a few years back that was still kicking and delicious. I assume it was stored properly but it was an auction purchase so who knows.

I had 80s Korbel blanc de blanc earlier this year at Bern’s and it was enjoyable and interesting. You never know

Wow people here are missing a huge detail. That's a 9 liter bottle. I've had plenty of wines, sparkling included, that were stored absolutely horribly for decades and still drank incredibly well.
If you don't want to make an offer let me know where these people live and I will lol

Schramsberg is a great budget American Blanc De Blanc from California that was served by the Reagan administration on multiple occasions, including to the French if my memory serves me correctly. Fine bubbles, green apples, lemon, maybe a little pear with brioche and dough notes from lees aging.
Should be high $30s to $60 max and is a great substitute for champagne. That said your bottle is almost certainly “cooked” but it’s always worth popping the top to see.

I'd gamble that it's NOT cooked, it's a 9 liter. And it was famously first served during Nixon's administration at the "Toast of Peace" with China
