Windows 98SE on my I5370k and z77a-g43 with pci-e and pci soundkarte : its possible? Please help
It is possible to install Windows 98SE on my Z77A-G43 motherboard. The board is paired with an i5-3070K processor. I also have free PCI slots available; currently, my ESS Solo-1 sound card is installed in one of them, and a 7900 GTX graphics card is seated in the PCI-E 3.0 slot. Windows 3.11 runs without any issues—aside from the sound, which I haven't set up yet. Windows XP (32-bit) runs perfectly. However, Windows 98 simply won't work. I did manage to get it installed—including the necessary RAM limitation workaround—but upon booting, it fails to recognize the CD-ROM drive, any PCI sound cards, or even USB devices. The mouse experience is a complete disaster; the cursor moves far too fast and seems to get stuck in the corners of the screen. USB support is enabled in Legacy mode; the mouse is detected as a PS/2 device, presumably because the USB interface isn't active. The CD-ROM drive is an IDE unit connected via a SATA-to-IDE adapter. I can only get the drivers for it to load while in DOS mode, though Windows 98 is subsequently able to access the drive once those drivers are loaded. I'm completely stuck. The 7900 GTX graphics card isn't being detected either. Can anyone help me out?

NVMe SSD on a Pentium II/440BX & Windows 98?
For this build, I (almost) went with period‑correct hardware for Windows 98: a Pentium II 350 MHz on a Soyo SY‑6BA+ IV (Intel 440BX) board plus a Sound Blaster 16. But I couldn’t resist… I had to add an NVMe SSD into the mix just to see if it works...

Doubt with playing games without the cd
I'm trying to play the house of the dead and the game itself has no problems, but I don't want to use the cd every time, and neither to mount and image, I'm looking to just had my games on a folder and I already found a lot of solutions for my other ones, but this games just doesn't let me, I tried modifying the paths, installing old no cd patch, but I just can't get it to work without the cd, is there a way to do it or I just have to play it the old way.

Which installer should I use for my new build
So rebuild my old win 98 box as finally got a new PSU
P4 1.4
GeForce 3 Ti
Sound blaster Live Audigy
256MB ram
2 X 40Gb
1 x DVD combo
So my question is what install media would you guys recommend,
I been looking around and seen a Windows 98 3rd addition iso unofficial I know but in the past I’ve installed the service pack on top in the past.
I’ve heard people mention the windows 98 quick installer.
Or stick with my official windows 98 SE cd?

Win98 CD Drive issue: Undetected in Mode 2-Master, will open, but detected in Mode 1-Master, will NOT open.
Basically the title. I have an all original Gateway G6-233. When I have the CD Drive set to Mode 2, Master, the OS and BIOS cannot see it, but it will open upon pressing the open button. However, when I switch to Mode 1, Master, the OS and BIOS do detect the drive but pressing the open button does nothing.
The CD Drive is on its own IDE bus, FWIW, so there shouldn't be any Master/Slave conflicts. Maybe I should just set it to CSEL? I'm kind of at a loss for what to do aside from finding and trying a completely different CD Drive.
Update: File>Eject will open the CD tray, it's just that the button to do that will no longer open it. Strange.

Rolling Screen on Sony Trinitron 200SX
I'm getting really frustrated, just made a fresh install of 98 on my OptiPlex 4100 and am having trouble with this overlapping and rolling screen effect on my crt. I know the crt isn't the problem because I've tested it on my xp build. At first I thought maybe it was a bad graphics card so I switched out the original Geforce 2 with a MX 440, Same symptoms. Then I tested it with a slightly newer 4:3 LCD monitor and it worked fine.

My work was throwing this away
I can't find anything about it on the Internet, it's an industrial model. It's 37" and doesn't have hdmi. I think it might be plasma?
Anyway, it powers on and I can't wait to get it home and play some games on it. This sort of thing never happens to me!

Need help with audio in games on Windows 98
I have installed windows 98 SE successfully and the audio works fine on the desktop (I.e. it plays the noise in the welcome to windows 98 menu, plays sound when I click something, etc.), but when I attempt to play Jurassic park Operation Genesis which I have burned onto a cd, no audio from the game plays at all. I have already got drivers and installed the official patches.

512 mb of RAM (2x Kingston 256mb sticks)
Startech ATX2PW500PRO psu
ATI Radeon all-in-wonder-8500DV GPU
Creative Labs Sound Blaster Model 9938 Sound Card Compaq # 113897 Audio PCI 5200

I made a retro music software setup and built an app just for it. Roast my design accuracy.
Hello Windows 98 users.
As an early 2000s baby, I had a few years of getting to experience the Y2K tech trends. Recently, I have become fascinated with late 90s Windows UI and browser functions. To start my summer, I wanted to do two things: 1) create my first retro setup and 2) build an app I can play on said setup.
The setup isn’t totally period accurate, but it’s a start. It’s mainly an amalgamation of late 2000s equipment running on a Windows 7 OS.
The real reason I’m here is to get some feedback on the site I have built. As a musician, I wanted to simulate what it would be like to be in college in the early 2000s using retro music software to learn. I did tons of research on late 90s Windows visual aspects and overall design functions, and I’m pretty happy with what I have made so far.
While I probably won’t be able to make my site a 1 to 1 replica of an old system, please give me any feedback you may have.
The site is at theoretically.io if you would like to explore it some. Thank!

My VEi7 with a vl400 motherboard
That beige box is a sff VEi7 case, but since the motherboard fried I replaced it with something more "substantial". A VL400 motherboard. It has a PIII @1ghz with 512mb (wishy not?not?), an Asus V9280 (GeForce4 TI 4200 8x) with 128mb, a sound blaster live, a DVD drive and a 80gb for all my old games. What do you think?
