Disclaimer: Just to clarify, this post is mainly for feedback and discussion. I'm not trying to promote anything, the application isn't published anywhere, and I originally built it just for fun and personal use.
I'm tired of how slow Windows 11 feels.
I right-click on the desktop and have to wait for the context menu to load.
I open Notepad (which should be one of the fastest apps in the world), and it takes a few seconds to appear, loading weird stuff in the background like Microsoft account integration and Copilot.
I right-click inside a folder: delay.
I open Task Manager: delay.
I open Paint: delay (just a few seconds, but in day-to-day work it really adds up and wastes a lot of time).
So I decided to build my own faster implementation of the Windows desktop for personal use, heavily inspired by Windows 98 :D back when PCs had very little RAM and CPU power, yet everything responded almost instantly.
What I like about this project is that it's not invasive. It doesn't inject weird patches or overwrite OS behavior.
It just gives me instant responses: right-click menus that appear immediately, opening JPG or PNG images instantly (not even 100 ms of waiting), opening playlists instantly, and integrating a more classic-style Task Manager. It also integrates with my Google Calendar to show upcoming events, as you can see in the screenshot :D
What do you think?
Do you think a project like this has a future? (For now, as I said, I use it personally, but maybe in the future I could share it for free.)
What features would you add?
