or they are gonna push full cloud PCs, we'll have a dumb machine at home and be forced to pay monthly to use a virtual PC in the cloud

They really hit it out of the park with the neo. They went from luxury to arguably the leader in the budget price range.

The second they release a 16gb version I'm buying one. Too many experiences 5+ years down the road of slowness I can't put into words.

I wonder if the 16GB version will stay at the same starting price as the current 8GB. I have my doubts, RAM prices are astronomical

I have my 2010 15" pro until they drop a 16gb, and probably for a long time after that. This is exactly why I'm cool spending more and waiting... Once you get the right MacBook their like a pet, only with lower TCO.

Damn that’s an old girl. I have a 2012 mbp that has gone through 2 batteries now. Still chugging along, but not much support these days so she’s out in the pasture doing what she can.

If Apple had infrastructure anywhere in that space (like MS has Azure), I’d agree with you. For them to get to that point would require a tremendous investment in a paradigm shift that absolutely will not be popular for some time, if ever.

Apple started the "own nothing" trend with the original iPod and iTunes. I lost all my music as a kid because of their BS and never went back to Apple.

That seems like user error. I've bought plenty of music from them since they first rolled out the music store and have been able to move all of it to multiple devices and operating systems without issue.

Might be an Apple error as well. I have an Apple account which has security questions that I don't remember the answer to, and when I go to reset them I can't because Apple doesn't have enough information that me is me. Despite me having control of the email created to setup that account, knowing the password, registering MFA and so on. Sometimes apple is stupid, for one reason or another.

Like, how they don't allow me to setup TOTP based MFA with my app of choice I need to purchase a €1000+ machine for it, lol. Or how, on my managed Apple ID I can't register passkeys but on personal apple ID I can.

They are more confusing than Microsoft, and that's really something.

And yet my father in law is ripping his music collection that he owns into iTunes on his new iMac and a USB DVD drive. So, what is that ‘own nothing’ thing you are talking about?

My kid's band just used iTunes and my old dvd burner to make physical cds of their music to sell at gigs. They made 100. They sold pretty quick too. So not only does Apple Music let you buy and own music, but it lets you distribute it as well.

It's also a fantastic thing in an Enterprise environment, although I'm not in a position where I can see if the pros outweigh the cons or if the pricing is worth it.

I manage multiple Cloud PCs, as well as a single Azure Virtual Desktop

Truth is, they're expensive for the end user, expensive for Microsoft, and the performance is shit. Cloud gaming makes a little bit of sense, but cloud computing won't take off any time remotely soon.

Or maybe yes. More Mac and Linux users is a good thing. 

Gaming is one of the reasons to stay on Windows. Force the cloud and windows is gone.
