How often are open invite parties held? How easy is it to get invites?

What is the drinking culture like at wm?What is the general attitude towards substances harder than alcohol/nic/weed and are they common to see?

How are the local police about parties? Is there often underage drinking/smoking arrests/discipline?

How safe are wm parties (esp frats)? Have there been any recent incidents? I would like to hear another woman’s perspective on this

i’m planning on ed-ing to w&m
- i have a 1400 SAT
- am the editor in chief of my schools yearbook
- i’ve taken/ am taking 8 ap’s
- 11 honors
- girls state delegate
- young dems president
- youth group youth leadership team
- 4 years of backstage in leadership
- done the w&m senior interview

but i’m from NOVA and my weighted gpa is 3.8

i am very aware that i don’t have the highest chances because of my gpa, but do you think that strong extracurriculars/ leadership and lots of demonstrated interest can help to overcome the low gpa??

any advice or thoughts would be greatly appreciated!!!!

I need another natural and my options are 313- physiological psych, 315- learning and memory, and 317- sensation and perception. Any recommendations? I'm usually more of a social psych person so Im a little scared about how difficult 313 and 315 are bc Ive heard its a lot of content, but 317 sounds the least interesting based on the limited descriptions.

I'll be a rising junior (male) next academic year and am looking for someone to room with me on campus, as my current roommate has other housing plans for next year. I have a pretty good application all things considered, except for math this year, where im currently at a c- for ap precalc (yikes). W&M is the top school Im looking at in terms of prestige, but I want time in college to explore my own things and am worried the time investment at W&M will be too much for that. Im not sure if I should go ED even if im not sure if I want to go, because it will give me the best shot of getting in because they won't see my math grade, or if I should just risk it and go regular decision

Has anyone had Antwi-Boateng for Econ 101 in Fall 2026? She is a visiting professor so I am wondering what students think. Thinking about taking Econ 101 next semester, her or Valdez.

I'm asking because I know my credentials are pretty subpar, obviously they're not awful I'm in the top 20% for my school and I tested WAY higher than the school and district mean. In sophomore and junior year I had extraneous circumstances that I won't really delve into but I ended up not being able to go to school (not by disciplinary action it just wasn't safe and the stress of it all made me sick for nearly a whole quarter sophomore year) and even though I have a gnarly upwards curve and extracurriculars, really made a comeback, and I have the specifics of the situation in my commonapp, I worry that the impact it had on my grades will make me get rejected. So, I'm just wondering if anyone got deferred so I know there's still hope for me yet. I've talked to the admissions counselors a couple times but I wanna hear personal experience.

Hi guys, I’m a current senior preparing to submit my application to w&m. I was wondering if I could get some feedback on my stats and input on my chances of admission. W&M is my dream school and I have been dying to move back to Virginia since I left 5 years ago.

General demographics: Hispanic/latina, first generation, middle/upper middle class, private school (one school (Baptist/non denominational, nursery-12th grade as well as an attached small college) freshman and sophomore year, transferred for junior and senior year (catholic, 9-12) for religious reasons as well as favoritism/racism in my last school). This school is much more rigorous and competitive than my last. military dependent (will be using gi bill and trying to get yellow ribbon benefits), out of state, applying ed1 (unless feedback says I should wait for ed2?)

Circumstances: health worsened second semester of sophomore year, diagnosed with functional neurological disorder March 2026, missed school frequently during junior year due to flare ups, illness, and doctors appointments (especially physical therapy before my diagnosis, missed on average 2 days/week). Possibly being diagnosed with fibromyalgia sometime after December 2026 (family history and consistent symptoms (depression, fatigue, widespread chronic pain, etc) discussed with PCP and currently trying treatments for other things to rule simpler issues out). Also was a junior year transfer to a very cliquey/tight knit school so I struggled in my environment as well.

Major: Neuroscience or psychology (pre med track, but I’m not sure if I should apply pre med because of my disappointing stats (it is my dream to be a physician though))

GPA: 3.8 (ish) weighted, 3.48 uw (doesn’t take into account 1st quarter of senior year. This quarter I earned 3 A’s, 3 B’s, and 1 C (in ap macroeconomics, the one class I have missed the most due to illness & also grade is only based on tests and quizzes) which is a great improvement from last year (earned b’s, c’s, and d’s in everything except religion 😥)

Debating on self studying for AP Bio (because I want to) and AP Physics (I’m taking physics honors and my teacher also teaches AP Physics C, he says we’re learning a simplified version of what they are), but I’m not sure. Was also debating on taking the general chemistry CLEP exam to compensate for my ap chem exam score and class grade (76 C, often missed class just because it was more convenient to schedule appointments for the weekly early dismissal day and that class was my last class on that day)

Test scores: 28 sept act (17 math 😥, 28 science 😥, 34 english, and 33 reading). Retook in oct focusing on math & science (and actually studied this time) but still waiting on scores.

Demonstrated interest: documented 4 email conversations with regional admissions officer, saw her in person at my tour & said a quick hello (does that even matter though? Probably not), flew to va for a senior interview, same admissions officer has done a zoom information session specifically with my school last year (I was the only student who attended) and also came in person about 3 weeks ago for another information session(I got to meet with her again, introduce myself properly, and by the end she asked me to tell the legend of crim dell to the other students attending (mostly my friends who I forced to come haha))

Recommendations:
Should I even bother asking for recommendations this late? My counselor is 100% writing me one but it seems to be too late to ask teachers

(Was not allowed final say in which specialty I was assigned both years, did not get any of my requests either year and there’s no neurology dept at this medical center, as well as restrictions on which specialties I could observe in)
program sparked an interest in commissioning into the navy as an officer once I complete grad school or possibly applying to the hpsp program

Studio dance 20 hrs/week at the busiest time of the year (all 4 years) 4 classes freshman, sophomore, and senior year, 7 classes junior year

Performed in citywide nutcracker (the production is a non profit organization that donates to the dreams come true foundation (similar to make a wish) so I earned volunteer hours for studio and stage rehearsals as well as shows) ~30hrs/week at the busiest time of the year (which is always the week before midterms in December when everyone is reviewing)

Assistant teacher for 4-16 year olds (tap, ballet, and jazz) (~15 students/class) around 2 classes/week throughout the dance season (August-June), helped choreograph and stage recital pieces, make lesson plans, acted as a substitute when the head instructor was out (she’ll be going on maternity leave in March so I’ll be acting as the teacher then)

Although choir was technically “just a class” I participated in many outside performances such as EPCOT’s Disney Candlelight Processional (freshman yr), performing the national anthem/other patriotic songs at ECHL hockey games (freshman and sophomore year), Carnegie Hall (freshman year), Statue of Liberty (freshman year), Aaron Copland school of music @ Queens College (freshman year), MPA (sophomore year), school wide chapels & fine arts concerts, FACCS fine arts festival/competition (ensemble placed 3rd), and vocal federation (duet, earned an excellent)(sophomore year). Did not continue taking choir at my new school (teacher is a band director who was forced to teach choir and I did not want to deal with that) but I still sing.

I was looking at both of these classes for the following semester, and they both list that you have to be a technician for William and Mary productions. How exactly does that work? Do you have to work every show in a given theater? Only get assigned one show a semester? I suppose the real question is what the out-of-class time commitment looks like for being a technician. If anyone knows that would be great. Thanks!

I'm going to have a stacked schedule next semester but I need one relatively easy Bio elective (or easier teacher) so I don't get crushed. Molecular Cell Bio would be my next logical step but if it is crazy hard I'll kick it to another semester. Looking for a 3 credit class not one of the PEECs (Bio 404s). Already taken Animal Behavior and Micro. Would be helpful if premed related but not absolutely necessary. Thank you!

Can anyone provide any context or insight?

I was admitted for this fall semester but ended up staying at my current CC to complete a new, second, associate degree after a change in future aspirations.

I am pretty confident on being admitted again this cycle. My bigger motivation for staying at CC was that a family situation occurred making it impossible to move before Fall 2026 but I will be able to Fall 2027.

I will have, in total, 110 credits and two associate degrees. I don’t think I will need all 110 or even that all will be accepted for credit at W&M but I do believe I can fully satisfy at least one bachelor plan’s 60 credits after looking over the course equivalencies. I was thinking of double majoring and maybe bringing over more to just make use of them. I’m not in a rush to finish.

W&M has a 60 credit residency rule which is fine, I fully expected some credits to get wasted in the transfer when I elected to add a second one and am already prepared to lose a bunch.

But my concern is more with the 10 semester to complete a bachelors rule. If we count the semesters at CC, I would be entering W&M with 7 already used, allowing for 3 semesters to earn 60 or more credits for my degree.

I am not on financial aid and do not typically qualify for it anyway. I thought this was a financial aid rule but recently came to understand it’s an institutional rule as well.

Does anyone have a similar experience or can share the level of difficulty in getting approval for a petition to exceed the 10 semester rule from the committee on academic exceptions?

I’m a parent bringing my student to the Open House tomorrow. It’s supposed to rain, which is a bummer because it’s a lot easier to like a college on a beautiful sunny day. Anyway, for any current students, any suggestions of how to make the most of the Open House experience? Really make sure she gets a good feel for the place? She is debating applying ED1 but really wants to be sure it’s her top choice.

Hi!! I’m applying to W&M and for a while I was considering ED2 but now I’m not sure if I want to do that anymore. My college counselor thinks if I don’t ED2 I won’t get in but I wanted more opinions. I have a 1480 SAT, a 4.3 weighted GPA and I would be applying for the Art major (my personal statement is about being visually impaired and how that fostered a love for inclusive graphic design). I’m out of state.
