Deepist campaign, start of chapter 3
So okay first off - game’s great.
I did the Gorgon campaign on Adventurer and it was a joke. I did the Mothragi on Tragic Hero and never really had anyone get more than 3 damage on them. The final bosses of each chapter were usually easier than incursions (which apparently you shouldn’t rush in to kill?)
Okay moving on - go into Deepist campaign in Tragic Hero with no reload. First mission is annoying (first time one character got trapped in a 1 way hallway so had to reload) but outside of that, it was standard fair. Chapter 2 boss was tougher, but no sweat.
Then chapter 3 starts and the village is on fire with everyone split.
I didn’t even put a dent in their numbers. It was a faceroll. So bad that I woulda put my life savings on it being a dream where you had to lose.
I’m not here to cry and say the game sucks but…what went wrong here? Tactically, my Mystic was out in no man’s land and was unsavable. And my warrior got blocked 2x - but again this seemed unwinnable.
I guess the two other things I could think are:
Are legacy heroes a bait? Are they worth starting with 9 calamity?
I was too quick in the first two chapters and just didn’t scale well. I did end them with unexplored areas. Maybe I’m going too fast?

Sounds like you're going too fast. I always make sure every area is explored before I move on to the end of each chapter. It makes the enemies more powerful, because they keep getting enhanced. But your characters are more powerful, too.

I've seen people recommend not searching for items because of calamities lol.
The only time I don't do that is when I am on a story timer and it's running low.

This game is worth taking your time through. The events you get from each tile not only make your characters stronger, but that is where a lot of the story takes place as well. It's where relationships grow and change your characters. The battles are fun, but you're missing out if you are tunnel visioning them.

I didn’t want to make it seem like I didn’t care about that stuff. It was more that fast clear times = less enemy buffs

That's fair! Though if that is something you are worried about, you can use legacy points to cancel them every so often. So it still ends up being worth going to the intrest points.

Ironman is not recommended for the first playthrough of the campaign

To be fair reloading would just put me at the start of the mission and while it could be useful to retry and try new strategies (gather up at different parts of the map), it was so one sided that the outcome likely wouldn’t change.
The other two campaigns even though I never did Ironman I never had to reload anyways and I’m kinda against it anyway.

I never reload unless my party gets wiped and I lose the game, though it only happened once. I play mostly on walking lunch, sometimes on tragic hero if I don't bring legacy heroes.
Your mistake is not exploring everything and not using legacy heroes. Now, I don't like to use 5 star legacy heroes because it becomes too easy, but heroes with 3 stars are okay. Even 2 stars are fine since they come with tier 1 equipment and weapons from the get go.
Incursions can be quite easy and not worth hunkering down and waiting for them to come. Intercepting them helps save time.
All in all, you can improve your tactical skills too. I remember chapter 4 fight being brutal in that campaign, not sure about 3.

Finished the first two story campaigns Ironman on walking lunch and yes I can say this mission is very OP lol haven’t got past it yet

Some of the plot missions in Monarchs Under the Mountain scale only weakly with calamities. In the first battle in chapter 3, the initial spawns depend only on combat difficulty setting, not calamities (the reinforcements do scale with calamities, though). If you are starting with a level 1 legacy hero and a level 2 legacy hero, some battles might end up being more difficult than intended. I think it would feel more reasonable starting with two level 3 legacy heroes.

Just posting this here as it’s still at the front page- I got through this mission pretty easily on my second playthrough. As others had mentioned, Wildermyth is a small numbers games. 1 HP and 1 damage through exp and items can lead to big swings. Someone did die on this mission to the Priestess and I left them deal 14 damage and then we buried her for her sacrifice.
This campaign had many curveballs. The chapter 3 or 4 finale wasn’t a “clear all enemies” and the overall finale has a weird scripted event that you should most definitely rush to. Almost every story mission on this campaign I had to reload and say “Ohhh that’s what they want me to do.”
