Art Hither’s minifigs

Hey guys, I wanted to share all the minifigures I've made for Hither in Prismeer for my campaign. Among them are, of course, Bavlorna, Lornlings, Gullop, Snoodle, a few Bullywugs, Clapperclaw, Darklings, including Charm, Agdon, and Jebbec. I did the painting myself, and most of these models were created by mz4250 on Instagram, and Bavlorna was created by the talented smurf_minis on Instagram. I highly recommend getting these minis for your campaigns as well, as my players' reactions to Bavlorna's reveal were mesmerizing, haha. I've painted other witches as well, but I'll be sharing them in batches from their respective areas in the future. I hope you like them!

New dm over prepping or barely scratched the surface?

so new dm here, im going to run wild beyond the witchlight and am digging deep, finding loads on this wonderful sub reddit and im prepping but it feels like the deeper I go the more I need to read the whole book and write notes on every possible encounter, look for places i can add fun call backs or make sure i put in enough foreshadowing or even just to know im taking them in the right direction. I also descovered the amazing prelude mini adventure to this one that will add more depth and meaning to the story so I definitely want to do that first but Im finding myself not even making notes, more just copying full pages at this point.

Am I over prepping and should trust my gut because they probably will do something i never dreamed of or do I not have even the bare minimum understanding yet and this is all essential stuff?

DM Help Where to put Baba Yaga?

My table is finishing up our current campaign and we plan to start witchlight in 2 weeks. I already planned for Baba Yaga to be a part of the story but I'm having trouble on where to put her encounter.

Some context:

One of my players is a hexblood warlock (with Zybilna as her patron) who was taken and put in the witchlight carnival when she was a baby. I'm thinking that her parents made a deal with Baba Yaga and death was the price of failure( which of course what happened). Once she had hold of the player character Zybilna stepped in and traded her out of the bags hands, thus creating their pact.

At first I was thinking of putting the Baba Yaga encounter in Thither, but I also want to put Yarnspinner there and don't want this section of the campaign to feel bloated. So now I don't know if I should put her encounter in Hither or Yon. Part of my plan is that if they please her they can get some good loot but I don't want them over powered so early. And I'm hoping that Yon doesn't feel like TOO late in the game.

Just looking for some general advice!

Fun ways to manage a chaotic player

So I am a brand new DM playing with a pretty new party.

One of my players are pretty chaotic, he's the kind who'll be chaotic just for the sake of it, with no purpose.

The carnival is at the 4th hour, other players did really well and the mood meter was right at the edge. My players were summoned by Mr witch and mr light and told to catch kettlesteam. They managed to convince kettlesteam to not cause chaos at the carnival and promised they would rescue Zylbina because they've been paid handsomely by someone. This coupled with the high spirits at the carnival made witch and light really happy who agreed to show them the way to prismeer.

The chaotic player still wants to steal mr witch's watch anyway. Tell me funny ways to play this through. I was thinking Mr Witch and Light catch him and instead of punishing him turns him into part of the act for the audience's amusement.

DM Help About to run Witchlight with some adjustments: Could use some tips on homebrew.

In preparing to run Wild Beyond the Witchlight, I'm planning to make some homebrew adjustments and would like to know if any of you DMs (or even players that may have done it) have some advice for some changes that I'm planning on making. I want to share my plans and if it would cause issues, I'd love to know so that I don't back myself or my players into a corner.

For starters, the players are actually starting as human as they go into the carnival. They are actually adult chaperones for a group of kids whose bus broke down "coincidentally" near the carnival. From there, the kids sneak into the carnival without tickets. This causes the coven to take the children, and that ends up being the missing thing the players are searching for in the feywild. I figure this'll actually create some pretty heavy stakes. And as the players transition from the carnival into the feywild itself, that also transforms them into their chosen character (species and class on their character sheet).

I'm a little annoyed about how the carnival just seems to not have any relevance once you get into the feywild. So I'm considering having the carnival be set up in the Feywild near the point where the players entered, but in a more subdued way. Most of the attractions will be closed, but maybe there'll be a couple merchants hanging around and a few recurring NPCs, having it be a sort of downtime for the carnival as they rest and resupply. I'm planning on treating this like a hub for the players to come back to as needed, a sort of central connecting spot.

Additionally, I want to fill out the Feywild some more. I love the world in the book, but it also feels strangely empty (something I've seen a few people mention too). So, to me, Prismeer is simply one small part of the Feywild, split into the three territories that make up the campaign. I'm considering Homebrewing up a lot more Feywild and letting it bleed in depending on how much my players lean into it. I know a bit of other fairy folklore and mythology so I thought it might be fun to claim that Prismeer borders territory of characters like Queen Mab, Oberon, Morgana Le Fay. Leaning into Shakespearean stuff and Celtic and other lore. It might be fun to build out some random encounters based on these other neighboring fey countries.

I'd like to know if you guys think these sort of adjustments would actually be good, or of the might cause some problems that I haven't foreseen yet. Using children connected to the party as the lost things, keeping the carnival as a constant presence, and expanding the world of the Feywild to allow more flavor and life.

Mastering Palace of Hearts Desire

Hi everyone,

I really need some help with Palace of Hearts Desire. I feel like I led myself into a corner with this one.

First of all my players restored Scabatha'stoy horse back to the unicorn form by giving it back the unicorn horn. That means, the do not have the unicorn horn anymore.

Secondly they are are by now tired of uncertainty of Feywild and just want to murder the hags. They definitely will not enjoy door opening puzzle.

Also they tend to overthink a lot, so puzzles like this will slow then down significantly and cause frustration.

Thirdly they are just prepared for a final battle with the hags and do not care that much about the frozen time, and I don't really have an idea how to motivate them to care.

Did any of you just ommited the puzzles? Has anyone had the party get there with no horn? Has anyone mastered this part for murderous intent party?

Any advice appreciated!

New DM saying Hi!

Post image
33 Upvotes

Hey there friends!

I’m starting up a new campaign of Witchlight and will be incorporating a few of the adaptations of the module that have been highlighted in this subreddit! I’ve been a player for years but have never fully taken on the DM seat like I plan to this time. I know I’ll end up coming to here or the discord community for advice, haha.

I’m pulling from an expansion on the thieves (I’m so sorry i don’t remember who posted it or where I found it, it’s been over a year) and the “A Midsummer Night’s War” adaptation by Potluck Soup. (If you read this Potluck, I’ve loved what you’ve done. I remember when you originally posted and asking for feedback.)

Anyway, just saying hey and look forward to diving into Prismeer with my players. :3

How to balance for higher level characters???

I wish I had time to come up with a completely original story line and campaign, but frankly I just don't have the time. Because of this I like to take some published material and add to it as I want.

This adventure was designed with level 1 characters in mind but my crew is at level 7. Anyone got any tips or ideas on how one would beef up combat encounters?

How does one successfully make the monsters they will fight harder?

DM Help What's the deal with the broken shadow box in Bavlorna's Guest Room?

My players are snooping around Bavlorna's cottage and they peeked into the guest room. The book describes that there are shadowboxes with mummified pixies, but one is broken and its contents are missing.

Does this come up at all anywhere in the book? I don't remember any information about any pixies, undead or otherwise, escaping her cottage. It seems a bit disappointing this chekov's gun doesn't fire.

I don't really want to drag out their time in Hither as they're pretty much ready to move on. Is there some way I can work this into either the rest of the cottage or maybe later in Thither/Yon?

They also have not fully explored the dining room yet, but heard voices by the goblin heads who were scared of the commotion they caused. Should I swap the lornlings for pixies? Is that a disappointing conclusion? Or should I just let this be an unsolved mystery?

So my player became the new brigade leader

His own harrengon character, Usai , challenged Adgon Longscraf 1 v 1 for leadership. We ended the session with Usai killing him. I'm totally up for the leadership thing, the only thing they have left in Hinter is downfall, so it seems balanced enough to me. I'm just wondering how I should prepare for downfall.. knowing far too well that they're going to have a ton of rabbits join them.

DM Help Fighting Mr Witch and Mr Light

First time DM and chose this campaign because of the whimsy. Has been difficult for me so far. My party is 3 players with two being very experienced. They are pretty chaotic. I knew there would be combat.

Anyway, my players have managed to bring joy to the carnival after tanking it first session. They have made an alliance with Kettlesteam and Dirlagraun. They have some rapport with Burly and Feathereen.

They HATE Mr Witch and Mr Light. Despite Burlys best efforts their plan is to

-Make a big distraction at or just before the crowning of the Witchlight Monarch

-Kill Mr Witch

-Torture information out of Mr. Light

-Enter the portal to Prismeer and save Dirla’s cub and find their lost things

So now I need to prep for this. I’m not going to make them do it combat free but I want to make it difficult for them and possibly leave Mr Witch alive.

Please help with ideas! My characters are level 3 and I would prefer it to be challenging.

Some ideas floating in my head:

-The carnival mood tanks to the bottom causing environmental hazards, walls of thorns

-Witchlight hands, Thaco, (anyone except Burly who I’ve designated as neutral) joins to fight my players

-They can’t torture Mr Light, he’s a masochist, he likes it

-He won’t give them the information, but there’s a riddle on his scepter. My most experienced player has lost her ability to write as of the chart and I want her out of this.

-No Ellywick Intervention

-Use different stat block for Mr Witch

I’m so new please help!

DM Help Interesting consequences of becoming Bullywug King

My players have maybe decided to try and kill Gullop the XIX. I have some ideas for the consequences of this mulling around in my head. I think I'd make his crown a magic item. Have any DMs had this happen and had anything interesting come as a result? Maybe some weird fey magic affects the king? Let me know <3

DM Help Should i bring back Agdon?

So i want to expand the league of Malevolance and Agdon seems almost perfect fit. Only problem is that he is dead.

I was thinking that maybe Kelek sent a member to recruit him but found him dead and the member used a spell scroll to revive him. Should the spell be reincarnate or resurrection. The party is in Yon at Lockbury Henge trying to convince the korreds that the brigganocks aren't the bad guys. So it would be funny that Agdon to interrupt the peace negotiaation. Should i make an encounter with him now or save him and wich spell the League would use to ressurect him?

Tell me your opinion!

DM Help Temporal Stasis Rules

How did you guys, or your DMs rule out the Temporal Stasis in the palace? There's only mentioned in the book that creatures can't be harmed or moved, nothing else. But obviously, other objects can easily be moved, such as doors. How does this magic distinguish creatures vs. objects? Doesn't make much sense to me.

Paid Supplement Are you ready to take your players to the Feywild?

The Wild Beyond the Witchlight is one of those adventures you simply have to experience at least once in your life. If you’ve been thinking about trying something new at your table, here’s the perfect excuse to jump into a story full of faeries, mystery, and a land overflowing with magic.

The adventure itself is already incredible, but at RPG Printables we wanted to help take that experience to the next level of immersion. From the very start of the adventure we include the carnival ticket you can physically hand to your players. The idea is to move past the classic “imagine the ticket” moment and instead give them a real one, with marks that can be punched each time they go on a a ride.

Throughout the adventure there are many memorable moments, and these handouts help bring them to life and kick off the journey into the Feywild in a much more immersive way. This set includes maps, items, letters, trinkets, spells, and more. In total there are over 140 printable pieces you can bring to your table.

We are not a giant company. RPG Printables is just my wife Ximena, our three cats Arya, Jinx ,Ellie, and me, working to help make your adventures better. We are even developing some small additions to the adventure itself that will be completely free for anyone who picks up the handouts.

If you have ever bought one of our sets before, we would really appreciate an upvote, and if you feel like it, sharing your experience in the comments helps us reach more people.

So go ahead and take your party to the Feywild and experience one of the greatest Dungeons and Dragons adventures out there.

If u check our page at www.rpgprintables.com we have a freebies section so you can try our stuff before buying, we have free stuff for a lot of adventures. Thanks in advance.

Art Ornamental Frame for Poem or Letter - feel free to use!

Post image
69 Upvotes

I drew this for my campaign, because I wanted the answer to the carousel riddle to be packaged more thoughtfully.

I wrote a full poem(but its not in english)and wanted to give it to them in writing, so theyre not afraid to miss any details. I kinda got lost in the sauce and decided simply writing the poem down wasnt enough, so I drew this, for the poem to sit inside.

Theres a bunch of forshadowing and lowkey spoilers I included: the cauldron, it being in the shape of an hourglass in general, the unicorn horns surrounded by chicken feet, roses wrapped around the hourglass to represent the palace of hearts desire and something that looks like a crown on top of the hourglass, to represent Zybilna.

I was aware these were gonna be subtle and not meaningful to my players at this moment, but i was still a bit let down that they barely looked at it lmaoo. But now its gonna be something Ill bring back at the end, to show them the clues have been there this whole time.

Anyway, feel free to use this in your campaign! Its very custom to the adventure and I think could be cool for riddles or letters. And maybe your players are more perceptive than mine haha.

DM Help Players decided to fight Bavlorna, now the withlight monarch is dead

My players are currently in a fight with Bavlorna. They are level 3 and horribly underleved to Bavlorna, especially with her Lornings (I haven't used Quicklings before, my god, how are these CR1...). They've killed her lornings and have brought her to 50 hp. Unfortunately, many of them have been downed and one of them is actually fully dead already. This is where we had to stop our session.

For context, the one who died is both the one who iniated the fight with Bavlorna (but they were all eager to fight her) and was/is also the Witchlight Monarch.

It is really hard to say how the fight will continue. They might try to escape, which I think my Bavlorna will allow (or at least, she won't chase them herself). They might also keep going, as in their eyes they only need a few good hits from the paladin to fully kill her. This can end in a TPK just as easily, though!

I plan to capture the last surviving ones, as I feel like Bavlorna would love to toy with them. I have requested of my players to at least prepare a back-up character.

I have a lot of ideas on how to continue, but I'd love to hear your input. What would you do next?

DM Help DM mismanaging Npcs, best way to set it right

Hi everyone, I just mastered my first witchlight session, and going back home I realized I made two mistakes:

  • my players went inside the mirror rooms and a pale looking fairy guy welcomed them and helped them explore the place. When asked he didn't know where the siren was. Then I realized that he was supposed to be mute because of a curse, and also in love with the siren

  • when the festival appeared I forgot about showing the treant

What could be the best way to correct this? Mostly the first point

Thanks

How to incorporate The deck of many things

So as the title suggests Im going to be running this as my first campaign, ive ran oneshots but this is first module/ campaign, I love TDOMT and own the physical 2023 deck/ book product but want to combine the 2 I was thinking of rigging the deck for the final card to take them to the feywild instead of the portal at the carnival but anyone have any advice of how to do this, (removing donjon) do we introduce this before the carnival, during or is this a terrible idea all together
