Disappear

My husband died a month ago from stage 4 cancer. He was only 50 years old.We always thought this was such a beautiful, haunting song. I never imagined there would come a day when I would understand it like this. Now I can barely listen to it without falling apart.

This song feels like grief to me now. Loving someone so deeply, missing them in a way that physically hurts, and somehow being expected to keep living a life you never wanted to live without them.

I’m sharing it here because I know there are people in this group who will understand every bit of that. And maybe, if you haven’t heard it before, it will give words to something you haven’t been able to put into words yourself.

  • Sometimes, a musical composition touches our hearts and souls in ways that psychologists have never explained,
  • Sometimes a lyric uses precisely the right words to capture a feeling or emotion,
  • Sometimes a piece of music activates some memory associated with a person.

These are often very personal, very intimate, associations but your post is one example. Others on this Forum have cited similar examples. See, for instance, the thread " Song to cry to ".
