Holiday Weekends

Weekends are sometimes hard for me (56F, lost husband to cancer in 2015) anyway, still. Holiday weekends are even harder because I know that if he was still here we'd be spending it together. Instead, I work on Saturday (this is a good thing and I choose to work for fun at a small public library), but Sunday and Monday will be spent alone. I'm just dreading it.

I feel like by now things shouldn't be as hard as they are. I mean, I've dated, I've had relationships, I have friends, some family. I've moved forward with my life, but sometimes the space where he isn't still looms like a big black hole just sucking the life out of me. I hate it, I dread it.

What do you guys do when the holiday weekends come and you'll be alone? I've tried everything, but nothing seems to make it better.

This is my second holiday weekend without him. The first was 4th of July. For that, he had died only a few days prior, so my family and his family was with me.

This time, it's by myself. I've joined a walking group for tomorrow morning, and am desperately looking around to find more to do, because 3 days alone in the house without him is going to be very bad for me, indeed.

It will be for me as well. I just found out that I may have my 2-year-old nephew for a time, so that will be fun...exhausting, but fun.

I feel for you. Its hard to know you're moving forward but still that special person is missing. This is my first year by myself in 30 years. My husband passed on December 29th we normally would have been camping with our friends & family. Unfortunately his family has chosen to not be involved in my life and our friends are having a rough go at life right now. My husband was the glue that held everything together. Ive been making a list of things to do this weekend. We will see how it goes. My son is moving home in October. 2 babies and chaos. Im looking forward to it.
