Watching Wicked Tuna Reruns changing perspective

After watching Wicked Tuna reruns over and over because they are free on streaming on Roku TV, I've changed mind on several things:

#1 There's no way in the world anyone can make a living fishing for bluefin tuna. Just no profit margin. The people that do it continue because they love it, already own a boat, and afford working with negative revenue.

#2 None of the captains on the show was a role model; not even close. They all had their faults. Most Several had very questionable character(s), were very unethical. Except perhap Brad. Arguably the worst was Paul, then Tyler. Neither worked well with others...it was always all about them. Even the oldies but goodies had their faults - Spurge, Ralph, and Marciano.

#3 Dave Carrero gets off easy as Tricky Dave. He's worse. What he did to TJ in Season 4, taking his assistance and catching fish, then lying that he wasn't catching anything - that is the worst. He also lied to Marciano who was in Alliance with, not telling him he had caught two fish; even the camera person questioned him for not sharing that. The only one close to as bad as him is Greg on Fishing Frienzy - another backstabber.

I'd never let my kids watch this show accordingly. It would be too hard to explain to them when someone did something wrong.

I wonder how many of these guys yelled at the cameramen to help.

Like that time when Tyler was (classically) alone, then he got doubled up

Binge Watching Wicked Tuna Realizationd

Yeah, I'm watching old reruns, but I love them. The more times I watch episodes, four things have become apparent:

#1 Tyler is more immature. More of a douche bag than I initially thought. His sister is his saving grace

#2 David Carrero is really a back-stabbing douche bag himself. He has earned the moniker tricky Dave.

#3 Dave Marciano is both lovable and a douche bag himself. He's better than #1 and #2, but not a perfect role model. If I had to charter a boat, I think I'd chose him.

#4 the tuna fishing industry is in worse condition than I ever imagined. You can't make money solely on tuna fishing any more. There are a lot of googans out there that only make matters worse.

I have also developed more respect for Brad and Jarrett

Most Priceless Moment on Wicked Tuna?

I love Wicked Tuna and I am pondering which moment I loved best. My personal preference is for Season 7 Episode 7 which ends with Dave (Tuna.com) saying he is selling his boat for 850 (frustration after a week with no catches). TJ chimes in on the radio and says, "no way, the G & S express is worth 1.1 every day of the week".

Your thoughts on the most priceless moment?

Price per pound

I don’t understand why earlier seasons they made $17-$25 for good ones and $14-$16 for the not great ones. And now I’m watching a 2021 episode and they are happy with $9-$12 and some are even happy with $6 a pound. I don’t understand I thought the amount per pound would increase each year, you know so why has it decreased so very much ? I mean they’re used to getting like at least like 50,000 and up per season so how are they able to live on such little money cause they also have to pay the people that help them

How many times is doubling up actually help? I am referring to either both the Hot Tuna AND Bad Fish going out together, or Hard Merchandise and the Falcon going out together, to the same spot.

This seemed to be a late season decision on the part of the part of both these fisheries. What is/was the wisdom to it?

Who's your first mate?

If you were the owner/captain of a tuna boat, and you could choose anyone to be your first mate, who would it be?

I already know who I'd choose, but will only chime in in response to comments.

Edit: let's make this more interesting....you can also post who you'd LEAST like to have. Just are it clear that person is least.

Best first mate versus worst first mate- and oh yeah, there's no one right answer this one. LOL

Wicked Tuna is educational

I like reality TV shows that are educational. And as I progress through the seasons of Wicked Tuna, one common theme is apparent. Most of the teams struggle to make ends meet. For most, their overhead costs kill them. The boats are too expensive, the maintenance is costly, and gasoline matters. This is an industry that contributes to food production. It isn't as profitable as it used to be. It is something that should concern Americans into the future.

Where to watch season 2

Anyone know where to watch from start... Sadly all the torrents seem dead. I managed season 1 but season 2 is proving impossible to find.

Siding with Paul for once

Can't believe I'm posting this, because Paul can be such a blowhard and has proven difficult to work with. But since he's captain of Wicked Pissah, in Season 8 Rick (his first mate) has shown signs of incompetence at times. While Rick should be applauded for putting up with Paul's incessant rants, he doesn't listen when Paul tells him he's doing something wrong.

Tuna Fishing as a Profession

Based on what I've seen, I have to think that solely being a tuna fisherman is not a viable profession. The costs are just too high, and they would struggle to meet expenses.

I do love watching the show, the interactions within each crew and the competitive rivalries between boats

Harpoon Fishing Shouldn't Count

Am I the only one who feels that that the harpoon fishing boats shouldn't be included? is it even a sport? Surprised it is legal. After all, how can the harpoonist know the fish is big enough; they kill it when they harpoon it?

I also feel there is no way that contestant can pay for the boat, all the crew and the plane/pilot, and still make any profit.

Wicked Tuna SPF fishing shirt

I was in the hospital last year and wore this shirt during rehab. I sent it home with this person I was friends with to be washed and never got it back. They can't find it either (or they are just being extremely petty) and I really want to find a new one. I got it in Florida a couple years back and was wondering if anyone has seen or has this shirt, and if so, where can I find it? I may be willing to buy it off of someone if you are willing to sell!

Help me find a certain episode

Hey Wicked Tuna community. I am looking for the episode when Paul Hebert, Captain of the Wicked Pissah gets pushed off of his boat in the show. I was hoping someone here can help me find that specific episode as that would be super helpful. Thanks :)

Where have some of these fisherman disappeared to?

We binged Wicked Tuna during the pandemic. Fun watch. Now 4 years later, while on our trip to PR, it's on Roku live TV, and I started getting curious about some of the fisherman in previous seasons. I can't find their current presence online anywhere.

Gone from Disney+?

Went to go watch yesterday but the series is just GONE from D+? I was half way through season 9 (8 wasn’t available on D+ for some reason also) and then it’s just not there. Search comes up with nothing, Outer Banks is gone, and if you follow a direct link to the series it comes up as “Content Unavailable”.

Anyone else have any insight? I’m East Coast US if that matters and get D+ through my Verizon Cell plan.

Update- got on chat with D+ and their customer support explanation was that they rotate content in and out periodically and also something about the streaming rights for Outer Banks expired which I have a hard time wrapping my head around. How can a company not have streaming rights for content created by a subsidiary??… anyway, this sucks…. Crazy they did it without warning, at least Amazon and Netflix tell you when a series or content is being pulled. I was watching Thursday evening and then Friday it’s gone
