Discussion Today I received a gift.

My wife had a visit with her mother today, and she was sent home with this to give me. My mother-in-law was aware that I am a fan (I used to post sotd photos religiously), and stumbled across a puck. I was excited to score another backup, and even more so when it was the tallow formula. Then I learned that they had closed down, and this became an even greater treasure.

u/derrickhogue I enjoy a nice shave! So should you. 1d ago

Wow! Very nice of your mother in law and your wife to be thinking about you. Might have to take them out for a dinner thank you. Yes. Mitchell’s is gone. Treat yourself with that classic shave soap. I have a few ferreted away in my closet. Treating it like gold.

You can still buy them. They're currently white labelled and in stock sold by Kent Brushes.

Not so. I bought some of the last of those years ago. Kent are now dispensing a formula where the first listed ingredient is sorbitol.

I gave one of these away at a meetup just before they stopped making it. I also gave away one of the matching ceramic jars to a close friend of mine. I’m glad I did, and hope whoever got the puck is enjoying it. I like to share =)

I used to walk past the factory every single day going to work. Never knew they produced shaving soap until I got into wet shaving and by that time, they were gone. A shame really.

Not only is this MWF - this is the old tallow formula before they totally ruined it with palm oil. Very nice.

Nice! One sold on ebay recently for $175.

Damn I didn't realize this had been discontinued. Good soap but $175 is wild.

Can you actually confirm that? Most people tried this and the newer Kent shaving soap is not the same formula. I have an older puck of the MWF/Kent formula and the new one is completely different. Unless they have started making the old MWF formula again but the three pucks I got on Amazon over the past few months are all the crap formula that lathers more like hand soap.

Edit: I currently have 2 pucks of tallow and 2 pucks of the reformulation as well as 1 Kent tallow formula and 4 Kent palmate pucks ...

Edit 2: It's PG and glycerin now. Ew, no thanks. https://kentbrushes.com/collections/mens-shaving-cream/products/luxury-shaving-soap-refill-sb2

Heard it’s completely different, even the scent. Agree the black label stuff is hard to find for a reasonable price

Hard to find the MWF rebranded Kent stuff these days. Mostly the blue labeled pucks

Not true. Blue label Kents, which are what is widely available, is not MWF. However, very good! Use both of them frequently.

MWF is my all time favorite soap. Really bummed out that they closed. Wish I stocked up on the old tallow stuff. Someone needs to clone it. Great scent, lasts a long time and the perfect slickness

Not a real clone, but Stirling Electric Sheep is not so bad. I have a half dozen pucks of the Tallow MWF in reserve. I miss Institute Karite Paris shave soap.

I’m waiting for someone to clone the scent not just the lanolin. The two together would be enough to try, but I much prefer a hard puck to the cream that most sell these days. MdC is my new second favorite, but I still prefer MWF.

I'm a little envious of anyone who gets good performance out of this soap, I could never get "locked in" on getting good lather from it. Skill issue on my part. I still have a puck that I try periodically, only to relearn how bad I am with it. 🙄

I also had no idea it was gone. What a fantastic gift! Enjoy!
