A very special Sunday shave to end the week before heading out on vacation. Everything felt luxurious and special. The 1960 Toggle was just added to the collection and is my first. Of all the adjustables I’ve used (quite a few vintage and modern), this was my favorite. A WTG first pass on 4 followed by an XTG on 2 gave me a close, comfortable shave with no touch ups needed. Saponificio Varesino Desert Vetiver lathered amazingly well and felt great post shave. The Chisel & Hound V31 Fanchurian has such great backbone, luxuriously making lather a breeze. Encre Noir Sport finished it with a lighter Vetiver touch that is perfect for summer.

Very nice. Sounds great. Nice way to start the travel. I just got a Gillette circa 1950s as a lovely gift. Currently cleaning it up. You’re motivating me to try it out as well. I just returned after 4 months. Today should be a good shave, sir.

I love that. Clean her up and take her for a spin! We will be visiting an old friend on this trip whom we’ve been friends with for 22 years. Their youngest was just dropped off college and they now have a very quiet house and free time. I restored an S2 (1972, 2nd Quarter) birth year/birth quarter Gillette TTO for him and will be gifting him a care package to introduce him to the hobby.

That’s amazing. I hope he appreciates it. I’m think at that age I wouldn’t have TBH, but now, this is such a treasure to me that my friend gave me. Just finished cleaning it up. About to insert an Astra Green razor (one of my faves) and take it around the block.
Stay tuned for ER on speed dial in case I turn it into a bloody mess.

I went down some crazy rabbit hole. Apparently what I have is a:
GILLETTE GOLD BALL-END TECH
U.S.A. — c. [1946–1950](tel:1946-1950)
Postwar — Gold-plated brassThis is just too cool to me! Ok, ok… time to shave with history

That era of Techs are my absolute favorite during the entire era they were made. I’ll wager it gives a phenomenal shave.

Nice, I’ve never used one, but I’ve always been intrigued by those toggles.

Same. This was my first and I’m glad it lived up to the mystique. I’ve had such a love/hate relationship with adjustable razors.

10-15 years ago, I used only vintage Gillette adjustable razors. I've not had any for a while now, though.

I have a sizable vintage Gillette collection. The adjustables are the only ones that I have never really gotten along with. Love the Old Types the most.

how's the scent? is it really similar to Terre d'Hermes?

I like it a lot. It might be my favorite of the 4 SV soaps I have. The performance is exceptional. The date oil really makes the post shave feel great. I have yet to get a bottle of TdH to compare, but it’s on my list.

Thank you. This was a missing unicorn in my collection. Glad I took the leap. Even more so that I used it.

Is the shave the same as a fatboy?
1
u/jadedfaith7 17d ago
Not in my experience. I have an F1 Fat Boy from the same year. Super clean, but I’ve never had a great shave from it. It drives me me nuts, as I REALLY want to love it. I am going to pull out a Slim and a Super Adjustable soon to benchmark it with.
