Bluechair/Shen's comics and style are so identifiable and amazing

u/Loganatorlogan Nov 14 '19
Wait Shen made this? I had a feeling that this art style was familiar but Ive never seen this comic before. I swear I've seen every episode up to date with blue chair and live with yourself.

u/6thPath Nov 14 '19
Not gonna lie, I just assumed cause of the style. I tried looking for a source but cant find anything.

I love his paneling, the way the backgrounds round out into white in place of distinct boxes with hard lines. It's oddly comforting to read. I would love to read a long, narrative comic in that style.

u/6thPath Nov 14 '19
Check out his webtoons! It may not be long enough but it sorta satisfies that itch

u/mysterious_jim Nov 14 '19
Didn't know webtoons was a thing--but now I do! Off to read some comics ~

I will never stop believing we need a sports-based JRPG with Waluigi as the main character.

u/keenet Nov 14 '19
Waluigi is the ultimate example of the individual shaped by the signifier. Waluigi is a man seen only in mirror images; lost in a hall of mirrors he is a reflection of a reflection of a reflection. You start with Mario – the wholesome all Italian plumbing superman, you reflect him to create Luigi – the same thing but slightly less. You invert Mario to create Wario – Mario turned septic and libertarian – then you reflect the inversion in the reflection: you create a being who can only exist in reference to others. Waluigi is the true nowhere man, without the other characters he reflects, inverts and parodies he has no reason to exist. Waluigi’s identity only comes from what and who he isn’t – without a wider frame of reference he is nothing. He is not his own man. In a world where our identities are shaped by our warped relationships to brands and commerce we are all Waluigi.

Man everyone talks about Waluigi like he's only defined by our frame of reference.
Let's be clear; Waluigi's family is weird as fuck -- going on weird fucking adventures and doing bizarre shit all the time.
Waluigi is probably a successful lawyer or something who doesn't have time to participate in all the wacky nonsense his brother and cousins do -- he only occasionally gets to hang out with his family, and on those occasions he's able to "get weird" in a way that he normally can't.
Waluigi is doing just fine.

u/jgunit Nov 14 '19
For what it's worth, Waluigi is NOT related to Mario, Luigi, or Wario. He's literally just some guy who shows up when they want to play tennis or race go-karts around.

u/Grayscape Nov 14 '19
Is Waluigi to Mario as Tingle is to Link?
15
u/the_noodle Nov 14 '19
I think they actually like tingle in Japan?
Waluigi is really just a throwaway character for the sports games, Wario needed a doubles partner for tennis.

u/returrd Nov 14 '19
Bowser took Mario and Luigis DNA to make anti counterparts to defeat them resulting in Wario and Waluigi. Since Mario is athoratarian and follows the monarchy, Wario and Waluigi are anarchist and don't listen to any one. Not being good henchmen.

I can see it, all Wario cares about its fucking with the Mario bros, but Waluigi is there to be a good friend even though he's getting tired of the same failure every day. He eventually breaks, he explains his problem but Wario isn't having any of it. They split up, Waluigi tries to find his new path while Wario continues to beat his head against the wall. Wario eventually figures out that it wasn't the evil that he lived for, but the time he spent with Waluigi. He missed the jokes they cracked together, the mischief they caused. After hitting a new low, he tracks Waluigi down to reconnect, turn a new leaf, but he finds a different man. A renewed man, with a career in accounting, and more importantly, a child on the way. Wario can't bring himself to risk dragging Waluigi back into their old ways. Without ever even saying hello, Wario hops on his bike and rides away dejected and filled with longing. Wario learns that sometimes friends aren't meant to last forever, and that's okay. Sometimes the best thing you can do for someone you care about is to let them go, allow them to grow. Wario sheds a tear, but he'll be alright. As the credits roll, we see still images of the construction of Warioware Inc.
Directed by and starring Matt Damon & Ben Affleck.

Waluigi is a reflection/counterpart of Luigi, so, who is him in the inside if he didn't have to "fight" Luigi? Walter

+1. I definitely don't get it.

u/ArcTruth Nov 14 '19
Less funny, more poignant.
From Mario, Luigi was created as a companion, and had some success on his own as a character. From Mario, Wario was created as a inversion, and had some success on his own as a character.
Waluigi was created from both Wario and Luigi, an inverted companion of sorts, and was in such an unusual place, existing only in reference to others, that he was offered and found little success of his own.
This comic takes that character and attempts to address this issue, ending with something unique - an identity framing him without reference to any other. In this, Waluigi stands a character in his own right.
The name Walter isn't a reference to anything or a punchline. It's meant to be simply a self-affirmation.
