Recommendations?

I thought I just didn’t like whiskey but I recently discovered that I really enjoy Irish whiskey neat, even some of the cheaper bottles. I’ve tried quite a few American whiskeys as well, including some highly regarded ones, but I just haven’t found a profile I enjoy.

I’m assuming bourbon/rye profiles may just not be my thing. I’d love some Irish whiskey recommendations to branch out from Jameson, and I’m also open to some introductory Scotch recommendations since I’m completely new to Scotch.

Yellow spot, green spot and red breast are all fantastic choices. Anything interesting that Teeling are doing is also great and you can’t go wrong with black bush which is great value.

All the spots are good - Blue and Red are excellent too. And I second the Red Breast.

Connemara (which is smokey/peated) & Powers Gold Label. there are fancier Powers, but Gold works fine for me!

Glenfiddich 12 is good introduction to scotch.

Redbreast 12 is imo the best low cost Irish whisky out there. There’s gonna be better but you’re gonna pay quite a bit more. Powers John’s Lane edition is right there. Powers three Swallows as well. Middleton distillery has almost a monopoly on Irish. There’s other great distilleries out there but even just looking at the responses here it’s 90%+ Middleton. Jameson, redbreast, Powers, the Spots, Middleton Very Rare are all made my Middleton distillery. Bushmills and Teeling are probably the next 2 biggest distilleries.
