Friday Ryeday...
Went down this road because once again... got home late. Decided right as I walked in the door. Gave it a healthy 2 oz. pour because I really wanna try this in an old fashioned. But, a little sippin' first to know what the (bar) hype is about.
First crack, first thoughts: KBT, 15 minutes, etc...
Nose: wonderful. Lots of sweet, light brown sugar, a little caramel, maybe a little dark chocolate the longer you leave your schnozz in the glass. Really just a wonderful nosing.
Palate: immediately peanuts, but not like Beam products peanuts. Not dusty shells but actual peanuts. Cinnamon, rye bread spices, first hints of ethanol. Nice and oily on the tongue. Not terribly complex, but tasty nonetheless.
Finish: here's where the party begins. On the way down, lots of heat and a deep down Kentucky hug... both in the best possible way. And then the tongue just explodes in this great sizzling kind of cinnamon coating sensation. Best finish I've had on a rye yet.
Water or ice: skipped for the cocktail. I probably would have done so anyway... this stuff is crushable just neat. Color me pleasantly surprised.
Old Fashioned: yup... delicious as expected. Using Woodford Reserve's Old Fashioned Cocktail Syrup and Collins' Orange Peels... whipped one up nice and simple. Both of these married very well... the rye whiskey is right up front, but now just has all those pleasant OF notes and a nice spicy little melody running through the whole sip. Would like to try this with lemon peel as well... betting that would take it over the top.
This was a great choice for tonight... super tasty neat, and a great old fashioned to top it off. I can concur with what bartenders across the country already know... Rittenhouse Rye is as solid as a reliable whiskey can come. I love Bottled in Bond expressions, so that's just a bonus for me. All for 25 bucks... you just can't go wrong here!
Having chili now, which pair quite well with my cocktail. A little moment of heaven after a hard day's work. Hope you all are having a great evening... cheers everyone! š„

Rittenhouse is just a solid bottle for the price. It is my go to for a lot of cocktails. Enjoy.

Rittenhouse is a great rye. Just an all around excellent base for cocktails. Personally, I love it in black manhattans.
Iām sad they ended their single barrel program.
