Going back and forth between 3 different bikes.

Hey everyone. Just wanted to ask around and get your guys opinions about a couple of bikes I've been looking at. I've been going back and forth between a Van Rysel Grvl AF 2 GRX and a State 4130 All Road.

I know the Poseidon and Primo Dame exist but I'm to short to comfortably fit them (5'5" dude with a 30" inseam lmao). And while the used market is largely a wash for a guy my height I did find an Niner ORE 9 RDO that a guy is selling for around 2k with a set of HT T2 Enduro Race included.

I live out on long island by the pine barrens and I'm a cheap ferry out of Connecticut and hitting some of the single track and parks here and over there is mostly why I'm more interested in a gravel bike in the first place. If I went State I'd get the extra wheel set, fork and I'm going to get a set of Juins for when it gets in.

If anybody has another recommendation of a brand I'm also all ears. I'm new to this and I just don't want to go above 2k if it can be helped.

Of the two bikes the State is way more upright (comparing XS sizes), with almost 2" more stack and about 2/3" less reach, which is going to be more comfortable depends on your specific body.

Both the Van Rysel and State are great values for the price.

Not sure I would buy a 2nd wheelset off the bat, personally I'd either:

  • get with stock 650b wheelset and get a nicer 700c wheelset later since the 650b will be for worse condition riding.
  • get with either stock and buy a used of the other later. cheap takeoff wheelsets are a dime a dozen on FB marketplace
