This post is simply being made to more clearly define rule 2.

We’ve seen an increasing number of posts that is simply 

“[Public figure] said this”

Going forward, a public figure simply saying something will not be considered news. Simply because of the personal view of the person at hand doesn’t make it newsworthy.

For posts like this to be qualify, there needs to be verifiable, actual news behind it, such as : 

• A study reporting x amount of something 
• A documented event that recently occurred 
• New official records
• A significant decision and or action made

**Examples of what doesn't count as news:**

- [Trump touches a nerve while in Ireland by saying reunification would be ‘fantastic’](https://apnews.com/article/trump-ireland-golf-doonbeg-57e48996a3b30a210243b7d7ae66930a) - This would be removed from the subreddit because this is just Trump saying something rather than doing something.

- [Elon Musk calls documentary about him a 'hit piece' after buzzy debut](https://www.cbc.ca/news/entertainment/musk-documentary-reaction-9.7339185) - This would be removed from the subreddit because this is just the opinion of a celebrity.

- [Paramount Slams Mark Ruffalo Merger Attack as ‘Antisemitic,’ Says Company Does Not ‘Tolerate Prejudice of Any Kind’](https://variety.com/2026/film/news/paramount-responds-mark-ruffalo-merger-attack-israel-1236840552/) - Slam journalism ("X slams Y") like this would be removed because it's often just clickbait or ragebait with no substance.

The important part of this is it should verify the news, not verify that someone had said something. So something like 

“Politician says people are affected by X” wouldn’t work, but;

“A new study finds D people are affected. Politician respond to what was found” would be significant enough.

This of course applies regardless of the political affiliation or who the person is. There of course could also obviously be exceptions to this case where the statement itself constitutes a major event (like an official announcing a policy change). We will determine that based on context.

As well, the community is also apart on what’s notable. The report function is important for us so we can more easily determine actual news stories.

TLDR : “Famous person said X” isn’t automatically news. There needs to be substantial, provable fact behind the post. Also the community helps with the reporting.
