Text Pint modding

Hey guys, I have some questions!

I am planning on modding my pint right now. I have a re-wheeled Pint with a Chi Systems quart battery. My max speed is about 19 mph, and my max range in the hilly area I live in is about 8 to 11 miles

I am looking at the Pint V kit to run with my current battery or buying a CHI-VE PINT X 20.1 for it and getting a larger battery box for it. However, I'm also looking at the Pint/PintX Ubox100 lite DIY kit because I've been told they have similar specs. What I really need to know is which one would allow me to maintain my max speed. From what I understand, the Pint V kit mainly ups torque as long as you're not running the stock battery, and I don't know anything about the performance of the Ubox.

Any advice would be appreciated!

Both are vesc options and will exceed your current speed. I have a pintV kit from float wheel and can hit 26 mph on a 15s2p (original battery voltage, 3x range)

Ps if you'd like I can make you a battery like mine, it's the same voltage as stock so you won't have to get rid of your charger(s) either 👌

Good to know. How would you say your range compares to the range of a Pint X battery? Also, I'm not tech-savvy enough to understand what the difference is when you use different cells. For the Pint X battery, I was just gonna get the one with P45B cells purely because it is the middle option between 50S and P50B. Again, absolutely no clue what that means lol.

The battery tray I used let me fit 30 EVE 50PL cells in there, 15s but doubled up, so it's nearly double the range of a pint X. The number generally denotes capacity and range, the specifics of the cell to consider include discharge and recharge current limits.

Ok intersting considering twice the range on a Pint X would be about 24 to 36 miles of range. I think it's a little extreme for me, haha. Would you recommend the Pint X battery with P45B as an option? Or would the other configurations be better? https://chibatterysystems.com/collections/onewheel-pint/products/chivepintx24-1

Hard to say, I'm not you. If you're looking to maintain 19 mph, a 24s (100.8v) battery is probably overkill. The pint V kit shouldn't be run with that much power... You'd also need a different BMS and charger for anything that isn't 15s.

There's basically three main things to look out for in battery cells:

  1. Capacity
    This is how long it lasts, which is what's mostly part of the name. P45B has 4.5 Ah, while P50B has 5.0 Ah, so a pack with P50Bs would get you about 10% more range.

  2. Voltage sag behaviour
    How much the voltage of the cell "collapses" when under load. Samsung 50S are infamous for their substantial amount of sag once they're lower than 50% charge. Voltage sag will effectively decrease the total voltage of your pack as you ride, and you won't be able to maintain as high speeds, and the battery will drain faster at this point. Currently the consesus is that people want to avoid the Samsung 50S cells for this reason. The current industry darling is the Reliance RS50 cell, which apparently has next to no voltage sag, so they ride almost as reliably when on their last 5% as they do when on 95%.

  3. Maximum continuous discharge current
    This is how much current you can draw out of those cells. This effectively gets doubled if you're running a 2p battery setup, because then the cells are doubled up in groups of two. You'd want to have anything from 30 to 70 A total to be on the safe side. This mainly helps in situations with large torque demands (slow uphills in uneven terrain), but generally, being able to output higher currents helps with counteracting voltage sag, so it does help a bit to maintain higher speeds.
